Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

MrT - you have not answered my question at all
fwiw, when we had major work carried out at a property in london, it went out to tender and it was won by a very good and competent company of polish builders
the whole operation was overseen by my architect, and we had few issues

gran , that is correct and the local land owner brags about the fortune he is making
what kind of humans leave their families to work and live like animals .and treated like animals living like rabbits .
I would sooner be poor and with my family and friends
its the rotten rich land owners who also get hand outs via uk taxes that are all that is wrong in the uk

it wouldn't help if you didn't know from where it started
however i think the essence of the job still shows in my architect's on-line brochure
reverting back to 71966 ......
then please explain why the vast majority of jobs in the hotel and catering industry are filled by nationalities other than english - and they aren't all from eastern europe either

you do talk absolute tosh
you couldn't possibly have any idea what lay under the skin of the (conservation area) building you now see ..... even i have difficulty remembering, and i've owned it since 1978
your other comment also does not answer the question i posed, so try again ...... or are you saying that the overwhelming majority of staff in our hotels and pubs and clubs and restaurants are "illegals"?

cynic I'm not disagreeing with you outright for the need of foreign workers,
and i've nothing whatsoever against Polish builders per sae, but the fact is
it has brought the wages of British builders, Plumbers, etc down, of course
everybody wants to get the job done at a lower price, but would they be happy
if someone came in and did their job but at a cheaper rate?.

I have seen the quality of work from Polish builders and it is excellent and better in most cases better than the British. They turn up early and work late. A Polish worker will do the job quicker, better and cheaper. In general though, I think that immigration has brought down wages. It is inevitable that with a surplus of workers, wages will be low. Immigration has caused a shortage of housing, school places, hospital beds etc. It causes pressure on our infrastructure. If we face shortages of essential things and services there is a case that we have too many people here.
It is not just people from around the world that are economic migrants, it is mainly European migrants. They are also coming here because our economy is strong and are too generous with benefits.

Haystack "I have seen the quality of work from Polish builders and it is excellent and better in most cases then the British"
Yes that is the general derogatory response from the anti British open door
multicultural briggade..
Thats why you have these people thinking that if we leave the EU we wouldn't
be able to stand on our own two feet...

It is meant to be derogatory of the British worker. It doesn't mean I want the Polish builders here, but they are just better.

GB - what an odd comment ..... i would actually be pretty surprised if some sort of accommodation was not reached over the coming 24 months or so ..... even if it is not, that would not mean the sudden disappearance of polish builders and their ilk, nor indeed prevent them being allowed into the country given the skill shortage in that and other industries

Of course they won't go. I doubt that any immigrants will leave and further I doubt they we will stop immigration. We will end up with a deal that allows free movement.

I agree with you to a point Hays but I don't believe the majority come because of benefits. They come to work. The pay here is much higher than in the East European countries despite the fact that many are in minimum pay jobs.
My main purpose for voting out was to escape the Eurotocracy and ECJ. The referendum wasn't intended to support the BNP. We can do very well outside of Europe but that doesn't make Europe unimportant as far as trade and manpower are concerned. If we continue to grow, we will need skilled people. Where they come from doesn't matter to me, provided they can do the job and are prepared to fit in.
One thing that is important now is to assure those people that are here that their status will not change and the same reassurances must be obtained for UK expats working within the EU.

My experience of the Poles maybe a wee bit biased, my son is engaged to a Pole and she has given me a Grandson. I work part time and the cleaners are all Polish, nicest people you could ever wish to meet. The remain side all called us racist because we deemed to be against uncontrolled...UNCONTROLLED immigration. Throw in democracy and what have you got LEAVE.

Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic called on Tuesday for the powers of the European Commission to be reined in after Britain voted to leave the EU, with Warsaw calling for the dismissal of Jean-Claude Juncker, the executive's head.
