partridge - I agree entirely re the credit crunch. NRK are probably no different than the dumb folk in this country who have borrowed 4 or 5+ times their earnings to buy a property.

I'm not sure how much in cloud cuckoo land they were in comparison to all the other banks, however. They may have been the worst exposed so far, but I'm not sure the other banks now know how much liability they themselves have.

I guess my point is that NRK is not alone and the powers that be will not let the enitre banking system collapse. Indeed, they will not necessarily let NRK go to the wall simply to make an example of them. As we've seen this last month or so, the knock-on effect to confidence would probably be massive. It won't happen IMO.

Anyone who thinks NRK is worth nil , like BFC, is simply pissing in the wind IMO.

NRK undoubtedly has a value, as does/did Eurotunnel ...... however, in my very arrogant opinion(!!), given the finacial pickle NRK is now in linked to what will assuredly be (at best) massive dilution of the equity, i cannot see the shareholders recovering more than say 50/100p and maybe not even that ...... interestingly, and unless i am much mistaken, a number of institutions have now thought better and sold off their holdings, so perhaps i'm not so dumb after all

OK Alan consider myself duly reprimanded - blame senility (talking of which, attended RSW AGM last week. Two directors aged 69 and 67, i.e just approaching their best, control over half the company and one impertinent upstart politely inferred that perhaps it was time they went to grow vegetables. As one, the assembled gathering of Victor Meldrew lookalikes rebelled. Most entertaining AGM in years - plus they provided good lunch and factory tour. May add to my holding.)Sorry off topic.

i would like to find some individual shares to short, perhaps in the building or financial sector, or even big oilies where sp may now be a bit over-cooked on the back of (over)high crude prices ...... however, it may be simpler just to short FTSE, which I have done and which is top-heavy in both financials and oils, and perhaps AIM which tends to get hammered in neg markets

AIM does not look possible, but FTSE 250 certainly is

Those in the building sector are great to short...see my thread - sell property share...I have shorted SGRO and RDW with profit now.
