In WIN10 I have lost the X in the corner to close a page and have to click the backward arrow

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

ExecLine - 16 Sep 2015 14:00 - 10843 of 11003

S

Just as though you were me, please read what you have typed. It's a bit confusing.

What 'Help' do you feel you need?

1. What browser are you using?

2. Do you want to know where the 'x' has gone and how to retrieve it?

or

3. Do you want to know how to close the page?

or

4. Do you want to know how to set things up how they were "before the 'x' went missing"? Again, which browser are you using?

Ah found it , thanks anyway, I did a " back in time" job its sorted.

WIN10 seems to take over occasionally and change things.

Cheers.

S

Seems like I wasted some of my time and interrupted you whilst you were talking to yourself.

Can anybody please help with instructions as to how I can repair or delete and reinstall Windows Live Mail within Windows 10. Ever since using it in Windows 7 it has never saved documents into the draft folder and when messages have been successfully sent they never appear in the sent box.

I used to get round this by simply sending the E-mail without saving it and copying it to myself. This was fine until yesterday when one of the E-mail addresses I used had changed and caused problems of an endless loop when I then tried to close down the program which kept coming up with a box stating there was unsent E-mail in my outbox and did I want to send it. Previously I used to save important documents that had taken a long time to create seperately but because I hadn't experienced any problems recently I had stopped doing it and lost a huge amount of work which had to be redone. I retyped the message and sent it using Thunderbird but this program has its own problems that I find really frustrating.

I had hoped that on upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 it might have resolved the problem - unfortunately it didn't and various trawls on the Microsoft sight and google have failed to provide a solution to my problem. Is there an alternative reliable E-mail program that anyone can suggest which uses IMAP server settings?

Re post 10846 in respect of my Windows Live Mail problem everything else on the computer is working just as it should and nothing untoward has shown up during various scans which have been regularly undertaken.

It might be worth looking here for an answer.

Investoree - 18 Sep 2015 09:29 - 10849 of 11003

Thanks skinny am working my way through your list which has thrown up some sugestions I hadn't already explored. Using the repair and uninstall options within Windows keeps stalling about three quarters of the way through claiming it "has encountered a problem" - Housten please bring back Outlook Express which never seemed to cause any problems over the years.

My internet keeps dropping out after @5 minutes and reloads after a similar interval - I've tried a different router, filter, cables etc - but no difference - any ideas or is likely to be my ISP or other?

HARRYCAT - 24 Sep 2015 10:28 - 10851 of 11003

Tried Ping test?

Haystack - 24 Sep 2015 10:31 - 10852 of 11003

If you contact your ISP they can do some diagnostics over the connection. They can even adjust settings at their end. Which ISP is it?

ExecLine - 24 Sep 2015 13:15 - 10853 of 11003

Same here.

It's extremely frustrating. I use Develo adapters to make the 240v house mains function like a hard wired network.

My internet provider is BT who give me Infinity 1. When it goes down, you don't really know what's causing it. One or more of the Develo Adapters?; BT?; wiring or cables?; the modem?

But deep down, it does heavily point towards being BT.

There's kids coming home from school and the internet usage goes up. Then there's stuff like 'catch up tv' or internet tv, films, games, etc. I just cannot believe in the quality of the infrastructure.

kimoldfield - 24 Sep 2015 19:55 - 10854 of 11003

Hmm. Could be a universal problem. I'm with PlusNet, unlimited, recently the speed has been dropping dramatically then recovering. I've had to switch everything off then restart on a few occasions. I've been blaming the kids/wife/dog/next door neighbours/Jeremy Corbyn et al; could it be Aliens?!:o)

Sequestor - 25 Sep 2015 08:32 - 10855 of 11003

When I power on WIN10 I get a really good pic and a question if I like it or not-I like it/them.
However on another PC in the house on WIN1O this doesn`t appear, any idea how to get it- tried Microsoft help without success

skinny - 25 Sep 2015 08:54 - 10856 of 11003

Thanks for the input - I was out for the rest of yesterday and last night - it seems fine this morning - so I assume it was Talktalk - really frustrating, but to be honest - quite rare these days.

Sequestor - 28 Sep 2015 09:56 - 10857 of 11003

Ah got it it`s Windows Spotlight!

HARRYCAT - 28 Sep 2015 12:14 - 10858 of 11003

On Win10 am now suffering the very annoying problem of new tabs hanging and becoming unresponsive in both Chrome and Edge (which I used to call IE).
Opening pages in a new window solves the problem, but multiple tabs in either browser just causes the whole lot to jam up! I assume it's an extension somewhere but even un-installing and re-installing doesn't solve it. Soooooooo annoying as I don't think I have changed anything in the settings.

skinny - 28 Sep 2015 12:22 - 10859 of 11003

It does sound like an extension problem?

For info - I currently have 20 tabs open under Chrome.

A little bit here.

HARRYCAT - 28 Sep 2015 12:27 - 10860 of 11003

There is a whole forum on the current problems with Chrome, but there doesn't seem to be a 'one thing fixes all' solution. (That's the one I found skinny....your link).
I only have Rapport and AdBlock Plus as extensions at the moment (Apart from the Google own extensions) so might have to disable them and see if that changes anything.
