Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

Switzerland does have an immigration problem, Cyners. It's become a halfway-house for those looking to get into Germany. It's a bit cold for them up in the hills though, so not a problem here.

After 5 years, you go from the B to the C permit which provides permanent residency. Financially independent means having comprehensive insurance and enough money in the bank not to be a burden on the state. What did you think it meant?

i confess i absolutely would not want to live in switzerland
for me, it's just too sterile, and in some ways even worse than the channel islands

if the french tax regime was not so penal, then that might technically have appeal

Jeremy Corbyn backs MPs' plan to force a second Brexit referendum

Jeremy Corbyn has endorsed a plan to force a second EU referendum as he bowed to pressure from Labour party members and MPs.

Mr Corbyn wants the Government to give MPs the final say next week on a second referendum. If a majority back a referendum, Parliament could force Theresa May to hold a new in/out public vote that could lead to Brexit being reversed.

Supporters of the so-called “People’s Vote” were jubilant tonight, describing Labour’s new policy as a “momentous” move that brought a referendum a “massive” step closer.

It came after Mrs May warned MPs that a fresh referendum would “damage social cohesion” because it would “undermine faith in democracy”.

Should have Abbott back on QT , she said there definitely wouldn't be one and told people to be careful what they wished for as Leave would win again if there was one.

Labour voters waking up to the fact that JC is willing to shaft them at any price to try to grab power, and ditching his own long held beliefs about the European Union. Grubby little squirt that he is when it comes to the truth and integrity.

As for Abbott she will now be back peddling trying to put another spin on her words.

a scathing comment in today's FT .....

It is Britain’s misfortune that at its time of need it has been blessed with two of the most inflexible, small-minded, partisan and inept figures ever to assume the mantle of leadership in the nation’s two major parties. The UK has had bad party leaders before, but until now it has been clever enough not to have them at the same time.

Just goes to show that FT should stick to what it does best.
