Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

More bad news.
Ford has said a no-deal Brexit would be catastrophic for the firm's manufacturing operations in the UK and that it would do "whatever is necessary" to protect its business.
The comments come after a report the carmaker was stepping up preparations to move production out of the UK.
Ford declined to comment directly on The Times' report, but said it had long warned against a "hard Brexit".
The company is the latest carmaker to warn on the risks of a no-deal Brexit.
"Such a situation would be catastrophic for the UK auto industry and Ford's manufacturing operations in the country," the company said in a statement.
"We will take whatever action is necessary to preserve the competitiveness of our European business."... Ominous I think you'll agree!

what a stunning gaffe ......
john mcdonnell calls churchill a villain
though no doubt taken out of context, that will hardly endear him and his party to the voting public

Little Man.
John McDonnell has called Sir Winston Churchill a "villain" over his role in dealing with striking miners in 1910.
At a Politico event, when asked to give a one-word answer on whether Churchill was a hero or villain, the shadow chancellor said: "Tonypandy - villain".
During the Tonypandy riots of 1910, troops were sent out to control striking miners who wrecked town centre shops and mine owners' property.""
Churchill was scuttled out of South Wales with his tail between his legs.

Have a look at Churchill's whole history.

Did you actually read the CPI report, or just look at the headline for Brownie Points, Dilbert?
Inflation was pretty much in line with forecasts, and the downward pressure came from falling energy costs - not exactly Brexit related, was it? There hasn't been any wages data this week that I'm aware of, so I don't know what you're referring to???
But if you want to talk about the (not so) Great British economics data, let's take a look at Monday's numbers shall we?
Manufacturing Production (YoY) (Dec) -2.1% vs -1.1% expected
Industrial Production (MoM) (Dec) -0.5% vs 0.2% expected
Industrial Production (YoY) (Dec) -0.9% vs -0.4% expected
Manufacturing Production (MoM) (Dec) -0.7% vs 0.2% expected
Total Business Investment (YoY) (Q4) -3.7% vs -2.9% expected
Total Business Investment (QoQ) (Q4) -1.4% vs 0.2% expected
And, of course there's this little gem...
Gross Domestic Product (MoM) (Dec) -0.4% vs 0.0% expected, 0.2% last
As I said the other day, did you really vote to be poorer???

Hils , get over the expected bit. It's just a guess based on so many variables that it's never likely to be right.
If forecasters were any good , buying shares or trading currency would be a no brainer.
How are the German figures looking for the same period , actual not forecast ? Heard they are horrendous but hey ho they are blaming Brexit.
Maybe Merkel should pull her finger out and get a deal done.

Hmmm , news out today that Germany narrowly avoids recession.
Maybe they beat forecasts though Hils so that means it's good news doesn't it ?

Italy going into recession. Who's to blame? Themselves, the Euro, the German-French axis or Brexit? Take your pick and argue as suits your purpose.

poor little thin-skinned red fred ........ if he wasn't such a supercilious specimen, one might even be driven close to tears
without much difficulty, i can think of many incidents and flaws in churchill's character
however, the public's perception of churchill is of the "great saviour" - which of course he was - and thus mcdonnell's comment was a blunder of almost tsunami proportions ...... that it tells much about him and by association, also corbyn, will no doubt be remembered, even when the immediate fallout has (quickly) settled

Little man,
What you define as a blunder is a common opinion of Churchill in many parts of the UK based on his history.
As a little englander you can rejoice, blind to his weaknesses and misjudgments.
Smear on fellow it is a suitable occupation for you.

Dil,
Markets don't ignore expectations. It's the expectation that's in the price before the news.
But what 0.2% growth are you talking about? The numbers clearly show that December GDP fell 0.4% month on month. The 0.2% growth increase relates to the last reading.
I don't understand the relevance of Germany - not only is their economy fundamentally different to the UK's, but they're not planning to leave the EU. That said, their YoY Q4 numbers did beat the street.

Try comparing like for like Hils , GDP Q4 UK not month on month. I never even mentioned Mom.
The relevance of Germany , well if our growth was better than theirs in Q4 we can't be doing that bad can we.
Merkel about to break ranks and kick start a proper deal ? Some real unhappy people in Germany over the EU stance apparently ?

You might not have mentioned MoM, Dilbert. But I certainly did in post 12504.
I know I'm good, but I'm not psychic, so you'll have to explain yourself clearly if you expect people to understand wtf you're babbling on about.
