FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

hmmm - greece got lucky today the ecb approved some more emergency funds after this weeks run on the greek banks - waste of money :-) - still wasting money should fit very well with the eu as that is a complete waste of time and money......................... and the rest - not an ounce of common sense between the lot of them

cynic - 21 Jun 2015 16:27 - 17882 of 21973

IG trades FTSE and DOW on Sundays
Though I wouldn't much want to dabble in these, it is still worth taking note that FTSE in particular is +18 at 6703

Implication is the perceived likelihood that there'll be a Greek fudge - with which I concur

Fred1new - 21 Jun 2015 17:42 - 17883 of 21973

That has bugged it!

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 05:47 - 17884 of 21973

woke up early for no good reason, but it looks as though a greek (rather than a trojan) deal has pretty much been struck, albeit that anything will have to be ratified in athens

anyway, opened a long in ftse at 6721, which is now just in the money

fireworks at the open?

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 07:16 - 17885 of 21973

cash FTSE now showing at 6760, so an ace start to the week, and i haven't even had breakfast yet!

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 08:13 - 17886 of 21973

i would have a dabble at FTSE250 as it is now challenging 50 dma
unfortunately (for me) the CFD spread is 35 points, and though this index is extremely volatile and thus interesting to trade, that is still a big lump to make up before one is in the money

Claret Dragon - 22 Jun 2015 08:49 - 17887 of 21973

One hell of a spike this morning. Missed it. Now undecided if this is for real or just a fake.

jimmy b - 22 Jun 2015 08:58 - 17888 of 21973

woke up early for no good reason cynic ,i hope you didn't wet the bed !

You should have woke Claret and myself ,missed this rise .

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 09:40 - 17889 of 21973

early worm catches the rise

jimmy b - 22 Jun 2015 10:13 - 17890 of 21973

;

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 11:14 - 17892 of 21973

FTSE is now static at just below 7800 so have banked that VERY nice profit of 72 points from this morning's little foray

===============

7808
an important level to break

jimmy b - 22 Jun 2015 13:11 - 17893 of 21973

Now is there a deal on for Greece or not ??

skinny - 22 Jun 2015 13:18 - 17894 of 21973

7800! - you wish cynic! :-)

jimmy b - 22 Jun 2015 13:19 - 17895 of 21973

He got up too early !!

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 13:30 - 17896 of 21973

you're right
never mind; what's 1,000 points between friends :-))

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 15:41 - 17897 of 21973

FTSE has limped through 6808 and DOW is having a little peek at 18,170
if DOW can crack that hurdle then either/both indices may be worth a flutter

jimmy b - 22 Jun 2015 15:48 - 17898 of 21973

It all depends on the Greek negotiations ,if that fails all bets are off.

cynic - 22 Jun 2015 16:35 - 17899 of 21973

true, though it's looking increasingly unlikely that that will happen, even though the fat lady has barely started to warm up

Claret Dragon - 22 Jun 2015 16:37 - 17900 of 21973

A small short just in case the Greeks are spoofing the market :)
