FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

very thankful indeed that by far the largest % of my assets are held in bricks and mortar

Good buying op if you ask me .

cynic - 24 Aug 2015 08:49 - 18383 of 21973

no hurry if you ask me ...... ok if you're looking long(er) term, but very dangerous to try to trade

jimmy b - 24 Aug 2015 09:02 - 18384 of 21973

He who dares Rodney ......

cynic - 24 Aug 2015 10:43 - 18385 of 21973

the correct call is probably to sell or even short into a any rally ....... change that ...... the correct call is probably to stay neutral!

jimmy b - 24 Aug 2015 10:50 - 18386 of 21973

I agree ,i have however bought GKN early this morning,i see a decent return there ,happy to hold for months .

Surely a bounce in the indicies at some point ? or is this a 2009 style crash if so there will be stocks at bargain basement prices somewhere down the road .

cynic - 24 Aug 2015 10:57 - 18387 of 21973

assuredly there'll be at least DCB, but indicators are currently that such a rally will be short-lived

jimmy b - 24 Aug 2015 12:23 - 18388 of 21973

No respite at the moment . The world will end soon.

Claret Dragon - 24 Aug 2015 13:33 - 18389 of 21973

Implications of this sell off are going to spew into other areas not yet considered.

HARRYCAT - 24 Aug 2015 14:21 - 18390 of 21973

Such as......?.......or haven't you considered them either? ;o)

jimmy b - 24 Aug 2015 15:06 - 18391 of 21973

Don't think i've ever seen such a swing in the indicies in one day.

Claret Dragon - 24 Aug 2015 16:07 - 18392 of 21973

Wish I knew HARRYCAT. I am not that clever.

jimmy b - 24 Aug 2015 16:12 - 18393 of 21973

No tin hat today Claret i think you need these ..

Claret Dragon - 24 Aug 2015 16:14 - 18394 of 21973

jimmy b - 24 Aug 2015 17:38 - 18395 of 21973

Don't tell me the DOW's going to end the evening blue .

cynic - 24 Aug 2015 18:00 - 18396 of 21973

i've been out most of the day but managed a couple of very small but profitable trades this afternoon ...... i think it's the only way to play at the moment, or at least, i don't have the balls to do toherwise

i also accidentally went short first thing this morning ...... shame i didn't have foresight as i closed them immediately i realised what i'd done

cynic - 24 Aug 2015 18:30 - 18397 of 21973

DOW now seems to be a hitting a wall at around 16,330 and then dropping away

watching the 10-minute chart isn't a bad way to determine what to do - if anything

cynic - 24 Aug 2015 19:43 - 18398 of 21973

now getting close to 16,000
below that, 15,800 or thereabouts is the support

HARRYCAT - 24 Aug 2015 19:54 - 18399 of 21973

Fred1new - 24 Aug 2015 19:57 - 18400 of 21973
