My daughter Francesca Berlin has her debut single released on 7th August 2006. Moon Records UK are running a competition (with the approval of MoneyAM) in which you have to predict at what number "Colours Faded" will be in the charts for the week ending 13th August 2006. The Official Charts for the week are announced on 13th August. "Colours Faded" is a 2 track single and the full charts are numbers 1 - 200. As there could be lots of entries the tie breaker is what number will "Colours Faded" be in the Download Charts (1 - 100).
Please enter by just stating say 45 (38) (45 being for Singles Charts and 38 being for Download Charts) Its easy and its a bit of fun. First prize is 250.00 of which 125.00 is sent on the winners behalf to the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund. The Winner gets the other 125.00 plus a signed copy of "Colours Faded". MoneyAm are offering a years free subscription to Shares Magazine including a years Premier MoneyAM access which is worth 123.00 to the top three entries. The second and third closest enntries will also recieve a signed copy of "Colours Faded".
My plan is to get "Colours Faded" in the charts by selling via by pre-ordering. We have the ability, via our on-line distributor, to sell via pre-orders and all of these sales will count towards our chart position in week one. If we can sell 3,500 at one week prior to release date we will have a major story to take the media.
Its almost impossible to get a record label deal in UK and so I formed my own record label (Moon Records UK) for the purpose of self release of Francesca's music. The song is titled "Colours Faded" and is about Eva Cassidy. We are working hard to get "Colours Faded" in the Top 40 with no record plugger, no record contract, no video, no national distribution, no radio play and no national press coverage. Its sounds impossible but with your help and the help of our existing fan base it could happen.
The on-line price is 77p per track. There are 3 alternate versions also for sale. If you buy all 4 the cost is 3.08 and all of the 4 sales will count to the charts. The B side is Stronger and that's also 77p.

The amount varies week by week. It can be 25,000 - 100,000.
You cant buy loads because it is called "chart manipulation". The Charts company have very sofisticated computer systems to spot this. We have told all our fans 1 purchase (can be up to 5 tracks) per person via download.
HMV are stocking this from release date (actual single). If anyone wants to phone their local HMV for a copy that would be great assistance to us.

Tried to listen to the sample earlier. Sounded good for the two seconds before it crashed and jammed my computer. Probably something wrong on my computer. Will have another go later once markets closed.
As for manipulation yes I'm sure nobody does it. There is absolutely no manipulation in the stock market as well as that is also against the rules ;)

Seriously, for download sales its has to be one person for one purchase of Colours Faded (although that purchase can be for all 5 different tracks available). Of course, please please, if there are two adults in the house then they can buy 2 x 5 (different versions).
As for the purchase in HMV it should not be more that 2 per person otherwise the chart company will delete these sales and could ban us.

you can pre order via SMS Text Message. Its really cool how this works
To order text
Francesca to 81330 you get Colours Faded (single version)
Francesca 1 to 81330 Colours Faded (acoustic)
Francesca 2 to 81330 Coloured Faded (rhodes mix)
Francesca 3 to 81330 Coloured Faded (original demo)
Francesca Stronger to 81330 Stronger (B Side)
You have to leave a space between Francesca and 1 etc.

Howard0181
- 06 Jul 2006 12:55

:-) we would get caught out for certainty.
However, what we have done is to use the chart rules to maximise our sales. Recent changes say you can have alternate versions of the lead track (Colours Faded) and so one person can buy the 4 versions and that counts as 4 sales to Download Charts and and 4 to Combined Single Charts.

However, I really would like whoever wins to take the 125.00 and have a great meal out. The charity are really delighted with anything that comes there way. I would say with regard the charity its not just the case of raising money its also about making people aware of Melanoma. Currently there is no cure.
The guy who runs this charity name is Harry Townsend. Sadly, he lost his dear wife to Melanoma and has now devoted his life to this charity. He is 69. Next year he has a 7 7 70 challenge. Thats 7 challenges in 7 continents at the age of 70. Climbing mountains, walking in a desert as examples. You can look this guy up on the internet via google search.

There is an important international chess competition in London during Francesca's release week. Its the annual Staunton International.
We are very much hoping to hear in the next few days that Francesca will be invited to make the opening move of the tournament. Seems its under discussion with the tournament organisers. In case anyone is wondering whats the link with chess and Francesca its because Francesca won the British Girls Under 12 Chess championships in 2000.
Its 4 weeks to release date. The key to a high chart number is getting pre-orders.
Can everyone please help as much as possible. Its 77p a track.

I was in shock when I read the news on Friday morning. I would always talk to Jessie's parents when our kids played in chess tournaments. They were very friendly and Jessie was such a delightful young girl. Jessie was in the same year age group as my son Jamie. Jamie played Jessie 4 times in tournaments and also Jessie once played Francesca.
I have a lot of very happy memories from when my kids played tournament chess. Francesca started to play tournament chess at the age of 5.
I feel numb today when I read the news about the upcomming trial of Jessie's father. I just cant understand this. I am just numb and sick (the trial) and so sad that Jessie is no longer with this world.

Her father, although he has been charged, hasn't yet entered a plea of Guilty or Not Guilty.
She would only have been required to give evidence against him if his plea was for Not Guilty.
Not a lot of help to a young girl's state of mind though, if you ask me.

Whilst its much appreciated the charity are more than happy with the 125 and we would all like whoever wins to take the other 125 on offer and have a nice evening out. To me thats the spirit of the competition. This is the second competition we have run and the other one the charity got the 250.

Its hard work. We are competing with the majors who have budgets on singles for well known acts in the region of 150,000 per single.
However, its going ok. I had a call from a reporter with the Daily Mail yesterday and she wants to run the story. However, her editor needs to see firm sales figures from us early next week. There are charts every day so the record labels can see how they are doing.
There are 4 versions of Colours Faded available via our website. It wont take much to get the sales higher.

Just back from Brent Cross. Francesca was the biggest seller. Also, we sold out in Brighton and Basildon but not massive amounts.
Thanks to everyone for there concern today. Much appreciated. Not sure how it happened but my web designer has sorted out but the guest book is down. Thats how they could have caused the problem.
Anyhow, all is fine now.

Ok, the latest chart position as at Midnight Wednesday is that we are running at number 55.
Today, I will get the figures at around 11.30am and my guess is that we will drop to around 57.
However, we are in Brighton (Churchill Square Shoppping Centre) fdor liver performance and Francesca signing outside HMV. We have a strong street team and we are hoping for good sales. Also the Melanoma Charity we are working with are coming down. We have a lot of press interest in today.

Just back from Brighton. Francesca's Colours Faded has been the number one selling single in HMV Brighton which is a top HMV store in England. Francesca was performing live Colours Faded and we had a great reception. Francesca must have signed 3000 autographs.
HMV Brighton were so impressed that they have asked us to do a live-instore performance from 10.30 - 2.00pm Francesca will sing 2 songs very half hour.
Whilst there are midweek charts they are expensive and difficult to get hold of. I have been told that as at Thursday midnight we were circa 57/59 in the national charts and around 55 in the download charts.
I think we might end up around mid 50's.
Thanks again for everyone who has entered this competition and for everyone who has bought Colours Faded.
Its still possible to get Top 40 if we have a great download day and a great sale of CD's in Brighton.

Sounds mean doesn't it I know, but I am generally suspicious of things like this.
125 to charity is ok but what percentage is this?

There is no money in singles in UK. The purpose of bringing out a single is for promotion. The promotion is for the album where there is large money to be made.
Its almost impossible to get a record label deal in UK and so I have formed Moon Records UK for the purpose of self release my daughter Francesca Berlin's music.
Its likely cost me around 2,500 to get Francesca in Top 75.
We ran a CD cover competition and 250 went to the Myfanywy Townsend Melanoma Charity and in this competition they get another 125.00.
What we get out of this is some decent publicity both for Francesca and the charity. Also, awareness of Melanoma is raised. Francesca's song Colours Faded is about Eva Cassidy who died of Melanoma.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to raise any further concerns.

Bolshi, i think it was a fair enough question, see no harm in you bringing it up,
however i know Howard personally and know how much hes spent on this, hes not a shark benefitting in the background behind false pretences, he has done it with his own money, with lots of hard work and wont even break even, hes done it for the love of his daughter and her potential as a proffesional artist ,hes a really genuine honest fella,he wouldnt want to make money from fellow money am traders, hes not like that,
i suppose i can and do understand why you asked though, unfortunately not everyone is as honest as Howard, and some people including members of the money am community would sail you up the river if they could ,and try and earn money off the back of you , but fortunately howard isnt one of em,
but you shouldnt be scared of asking those sort of questions, those who have nothing to hide will give you an honest answer.
Well done Howard and Francesssca, great achievement,
whats the difference between the independant chart and the one played on the radio?

We are trying to work with the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund and I would like you (as you raised this issue) to go to their website and see what they are trying to achieve.
http://www.melanoma-fund.co.uk/
I met Harry Townsend last week and he is an amazing guy.
I would like to help him and so I have an idea to raise some money for his good cause. It will cost 77p per person and I am going to create a new link for this.
As such I have an idea to raise a little money for his charity from my record label Moon Records UK. If you look on his donations page you will read that he has already recieved 250.00 from us with another 125.00 to come this week. I would like to help him and so I have an idea to raise some money for his good cause. It will cost 77p per person and I am going to create a new link for this.#

This link to buy Colours Faded will register sales for the purpose of raising money for the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund.
http://www.melanoma-fund.co.uk/
Each track costs 77p and 100% of sales will go to the charity. It will start now and close on 28th August 2006. So to clarify that if you buy one track for 77p then 77p goes to the charity.
