Been turning this one up in my stock screener lists over the last week or so on differing criteria. Anyway took the plunge this morning and added more after seeing this item from GCI, its derd cheap and should be on at least double that P/E. Well worth a read and please DYOR................
OpSec - STRONG BUY
Companies: OSG
07/11/2006
Growth Company Investor recommendation OpSec the anti-counterfeiting counter backed at 42.5p earlier this year when known as Applied Optical Technologies merits closer investor inspection ahead of forthcoming half time figures to September.
Last year proved a watershed, with the company moving into the black with a 1.7m full year profit scored on 25.4m sales, under the stewardship of chief executive Mark Turnage.
And quite simply, the company continues to go great guns. A recent pre-close update, ahead of the interims, boasted that figures for the year to March would be significantly ahead of forecasts. The European operations have performed strongly, and the interims will show dramatic improvement year-on-year. And though the American operations experienced a slow first quarter, business picked up markedly in the second quarter.
Turnage is clearly delighted with June acquisition GenuOne, bought for 7m in cash, which provides anti-counterfeiting software that allows brand owners to monitor and protect their products and brands across auction sites like eBay. Fundamentally important to the brand protection business, the acquisition has created a unique company able to meet the needs of global brand owners in both the online and supply chain environments.
3dcd, the groups 50-50 joint venture with Technicolor, also had a remarkable first half, with Microsofts imminent software launch having buoyed business. For March 2007, upgraded forecasts suggest pre-tax profits of 3.8m from approaching 31m sales, and earnings of 5.2p, placing the shares on a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 12.1. That is way too low for a cash-rich growth company with global brands on its client list. Buy.

Just lifted it off the other big site ST, many thanks for the link.......
"OpSec Security-until recently known as Applied Optical Technologies-is one of companies that has historically always been able to make a sow's ear out of a silk purse. Its raisond'etre is the prevention of counterfeiting, not only of passports and currencies, but also of branded goods.Such a market would appear to be set for rapid growth, but until the year to March 30 the company was regularly reporting losses on declining revenues. In June, however it announced a move into the black with pretax profits of 1.7m on turnover of 25.4m.In addition,it acquired GenuOne,a US software company that tracks activity on internet auctions to spot counterfeits. The shares shot from a 12 month low of 37p to a recent high of 70p,although they remain a fraction of the price five years ago..Nevertheless the interims, due at the end of this month, are expected to show that the company should deliver full year profits of 3.8m.An attempt to win the contract for protecting the euro has been abandoned and the restructured balance sheet might allow a dividend in the not too distant future".

A decent turnaround play already showing signs of success. The world

should see plenty of work while
industries crack down on fake

OPSEC SECURITY GROUP plc
('OpSec' or 'the Group')
Interim results for the six months ended 30th September 2006
Chairman's Statement
In the half year to 30th September 2006 the Group achieved a major advance in
profitability. Turnover and profits grew markedly in our European operations and
there was a significant increase in the contribution received from our joint
venture, 3dcd. The successful integration of GenuOne, which joined the Group in
June 2006, has provided a major impetus to the American operations as evidenced
by new customers and several significant new contracts.
Results
Group turnover for the six months was 14.4 million (2005: 13.0 million) and
the Group operating profit was 2.82 million (2005: 0.87 million).
Cash inflow from operating activities was 0.79 million (2005: 1.89 million).
The Group's balance sheet remains strong, with net borrowings of only 0.1
million (2005: net cash balances of 5.7 million) after funding the 7.5 million
acquisition of GenuOne and fixed asset additions of 1.5 million.
Review of Operations
European operations continued to progress at a faster rate than our original
expectations. Turnover grew by 24% compared to the previous year and
profitability more than quadrupled. A number of capital investment projects are
being undertaken to increase capacity and enable these operations to respond to
a growing number of significant sales opportunities, particularly in the revenue
and tax stamp markets.
3dcd contributed 2.23 million (2005: 0.29 million) largely due to the launch
of a major new software programme by the joint venture's principal customer.
This level of contribution will not be repeated in the second half. The cash
flow arising from the 3dcd contribution has been utilised to assist in the
funding of the GenuOne acquisition and to undertake a significant investment in
both fixed assets and the Group's sales and marketing capabilities.
The non recurrence of a significant government security contract which was
completed in December 2005 impacted the American operations in the first
quarter. Trading in the second quarter saw a marked improvement and the current
order book is very strong. The integration of the GenuOne acquisition has
proceeded to plan. In addition to GenuOne securing new business with customers
such as Boots, Oillily, River Island and Gant, the enhanced services we now
offer customers have helped the Group secure significant contracts with several
new customers including Phillips and the Collegiate Licensed Properties
Association.
Conclusion
We view the prospects for the balance of the current year very positively.
Current trading is at record levels and the Group is actively pursuing a number
of significant business opportunities. We are also in the early stages of a
number of discussions with possible acquisitions which we believe would further
strengthen the Group.

Mentioned in today's FT:
Fighting the fakes
Christmas spending on the internet is expected to show terrific growth this year. Every reason then for brand owners to become increasingly protective of their most valuable asset.
Their anxiety is being targeted by OpSec, the anti-counterfeiting company that in June acquired GenuOne. The acquisition trawls the internet looking for dodgy goods. It has links to Ebay, which will close down any auction of goods shown up as illegal copies.
Recently the company approached Ducati, the Italian motorcycle maker with some nice fashions attached, and asked whether it was losing sales to internet pirates.
Ducati thought not, but agreed to a trial of the GenuOne software. Within 10 minutes, a site was discovered in Pakistan, complete with name and contact details, offering to produce a maximum of 3,000 Ducati leather jackets a month at a knockdown price of $60 a unit. The minimum order of five had a delivery time of three days.
OpSec, which used to be known as Applied Optical Technologies, this week reported more profits in the first half than it has ever made previously in 12 months. Perhaps, after years of struggle, its time has come.

Pre closing trading update
Prior to entering its close period for the year ending 31st March 2007 OpSec
Security Group plc, the supplier of high quality anti-counterfeiting

The Board is pleased to confirm that the Company's core operations will all

contribution from its 3dcd joint venture, which, as previously highlighted, is
largely one-off in nature, leads the Board to believe that results for the

The Company remains actively engaged in a number of discussions with potential

Goldfinger,
IMO, I'd buy in about 95p-96p, which is back above the 50MA, and would also be a break of the 'lower-highs' trendline in place since the end of January. I'd also look for higher volume on the break. The MA may act as a support/resistance level.
Stops would be in area of 85p, being the top of the gap up on 24 January - it looks like it bounced off near there earlier this week?
Hope this helps.

There is a trend in this Co. - look at the sp -
- the trend is go nowhere....it's been flapping about yet falling at every opportunity.....hopeless.
Presumably, this reflects the expectations of the business - pah!

Missed the AGM, today as I couldn't be bothered to rush up to Town in crowded trains just to hear well-heeled Execs tell us like it isn't - anyway the RNS has solved my lack of Informastion, and the sp-drop updates my investment Prospects.....so all in all, quite a good, no-rush day.
SP down 6% 44p mid - on the News that some Orders may be delayed. Integration of ---(dunno) is OK - so there!
This Co provides hologram security (eg for software packing) and banknotes.
On the face of it you'd think this was a rising...plodder...but NO, it Isn't!
It appears to fail to excite the Market and the figures aren't any better, either.
Sp is almost halved in the past 12-months....so worse than the Market as a whole. I guess they are being squeezed and don't have enough "zip."
+I hold a few, at a loss.
EDIT-(19Nov08)-down again to 22p - Oh well .

3 Directors bought today, maybe with the huge number of banknotes about to be printed OSG is going to be busy. I don't hold and know very little about the co.

down to 17p and Directors buy a modest amount - not exactly sure this constitutes Great Faith, or an opportunity to buy cheaply, over a longer-period etc.
2517 George may be right that large numbers of Banknotes are about to be printed, but I suspect any "printing" by the UK Government is in a ledger, rather than actual notes. When the UK-Banks got their cash, wasn't it just a money-transfer rather than a lorry-load of 50's . . ?
I've held this since it was called - - - - yawn, I- forget....not a good investment as inspection of the Graph will show.
Frankly with folks holding onto their money and the gradual use of "plastic" I fear there is even less demand for their "notes" products, so despite the Directors showing some activity, I shall keep my cash, safe elsewhere.

Re those Banknotes - we are moving towards cash-less, with electronic wallets, etc.
Take-Over
All washed-up now takeover completed: ( DYOR = Dec.2015 ) - and a miserable cashing-up for LT shareholders . . . I made under £50 in fourteen years of hype!
I hope MoneyAM(dot)Com can keep this open for a while in case others attempt to read the latest news.
Originally this Co was Applied Optical . . . but the name-change was not much more than window-dressing, IMHO.
