Any target on the chart? Last time it was here, it went straight to 264p more or less.

I bought into this on the monthly chart breakout last week - as it happens, also got tipped in the SCSW at the weekend, and they will do a more detailed write up next month. The gist seemed to be increased revenue from all-weather courses and the renewed contract which provides race footage to bookmakers, and also as an asset play - increased development at the courses (hotels, conference facilities etc) at Doncaster/Wolverhampton, and some land at Folkestone racecourse earmarked for housing. It seems that the property is undervalued in the balance sheet.
I have no target in mind - I will go with the trend. As I said, I bought in purely on the chart, but as there is a 'fundamental' story to it as well, hopefully this 'rider' won't get unseated :)

here's the chart anyway ....... really need a more sophisticated one which i cannot supply to determine next resistance etc .... my guess is that it's at about this level being 33% above the last significant low at 56, but do not hold me to that ..... rsi is also more than a bit heady though falling

Looking at a monthly chart, the next resistance level I can see is about the 120p mark - during the general downtrend from 250p+ it looks like 3 attempted rallies failed at this level, but that was back in the first half of 2001. I can't see anything obvious between that and where we are now.

Story in Shares mag yesterday - city gossip is that the Reuben brothers are looking at merging ARE with their newly acquired Northern Racing (NOR). The theory is that they could merge the two, cut overheads, and transfer races between the two estates in order to free up courses (such as Folkestone) for redevelopment. However, for this to go ahead, they would need the support of Trevor Hemmings, who owns more than 25% of ARE's shares. He also owns Blackpool Tower, and is the owner of the Grand National winning horse, Hedgehunter.
Technically, ARE's share price has ticked down over the last couple of weeks after nearing 80p, but volume has been drying up.
I hold in ARE.

'Arena had another successful year in 2006 and is on course for more success in
2007 and beyond.
'Attendances in the first part of 2007 have remained softer than anticipated,
but this is traditionally a quiet period of the year, and prospects for the very
busy summer months are encouraging. In addition, Arena's new catering division
has successfully taken on the management of the Group's catering operations with
effect from 1 April 2007 and the new division has got off to a strong start.
'Arena's development projects continue to progress well, with the Doncaster
Racecourse redevelopment on schedule for a successful staging of the Ladbrokes
St Leger Festival in September 2007. Arena also welcomed the receipt of planning
permission at Doncaster Racecourse for the combined 120-bedroom hotel and
34-unit residential development.

I've held for a while here but hadn't seen the thread! I'm expecting this should start hotting up very soon. As we get closer to St Leger Day and the new developments I understand at Doncaster are looking good. That and the continued talk of the Reuben bros. holding a stake and interest in merging with Northern, this is increasingly becoming a good property play in my opinion.

The hotel is the second phase of the exciting plans for the redevelopment of
Doncaster Racecourse. The first phase, which will cost around 32 million,
involves the replacement of the old grandstand and exhibition hall with
state-of-the-art facilities for racing, conferences and exhibitions, together
with new stabling, weighing room and stable lads' accommodation.
Phase one is scheduled for completion in August 2007, in time for the world's

and to be officially re-opened by HRH the Princess Royal on 12 September
2007, the first day of the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival , sorry its the granstand thats open .The redevelopment of Doncaster Racecourse is drawing to a close. Although our
contractor has advised us that the severe adverse weather in the area in June
caused delays to what was always a very tight schedule, we remain on target to
stage a trial event in August and for HRH the Princess Royal to officially
re-open the Racecourse on 12 September for the start of the Ladbrokes St Leger
Festival.
Further catering facilities, including a food court and champagne and seafood
restaurant, have been introduced that were not part of the original development

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Arena Leisure PLC, the racecourse operator, has received planning permission to create Britain's first 'racino' at Wolverhampton racecourse.
The UK's largest operator of horseracing fixtures said it has been informed that Wolverhampton City Council has received confirmation from the Government Office for the West Midlands that the planning application for the redevelopment of the racecourse will not be called-in for determination by the Secretary of State.
As a consequence, planning permission has now been secured, subject to finalising legal agreements with the council.
These improvements include an expansion of the hotel from 54 to 170-bedrooms, the construction of a new conference, exhibition and banqueting suite, a new leisure facility including a swimming pool and the incorporation of a casino within the racecourse, thereby creating the UK's first 'Racino'. The development will cost an estimated 23 mln stg.
In January, the City of Wolverhampton was recommended as a location for a
'small' casino by the Casino Advisory Panel. The Panel commented that: 'if the
casino happens to end up at the racecourse it would add to its uniqueness and
provide an interesting and unusual social impact test'.
The Panel's recommendations require the endorsement of Parliament and this has been delayed by the issues surrounding the 'regional' casino.
Arena said it has been reassured, however, by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport's written statement in July 2007 that: 'there was a clear consensus across all parties that the eight large and eight small casinos should be awarded to the authorities identified by the Panel'.
Arena's chief executive Mark Elliott said the Wolverhapmton plans form an important part of the company's strategy.
'We are delighted that the Government Office for the West Midlands, on behalf of the Secretary of State, recognised that the proposed development of
Wolverhampton Racecourse addressed the issues created by the Racecourse's Green
Belt location whilst, at the same time, helping to secure the long-term future
of the racecourse by further enhancing its status as a leading racing,
conferencing and leisure destination for the West Midlands region,' he said in a statement.
Arena's proposals were resubmitted last year after the original plans were rejected by former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott because of their impact on the green belt.
The company is looking to lift revenues by developing racecourses into all-round leisure venues.
Arena has won planning permission to develop a hotel at Lingfield and has redeveloped Doncaster, where the St Leger, the oldest of the five classic horseraces, takes place next week

Arena is pleased to announce that the 2007 St Leger Festival has commenced as
planned following the 20 month redevelopment programme that encompassed a 34
million investment in Doncaster Racecourse, home to the world's oldest Classic
horserace, the Ladbrokes St Leger.
The Festival commenced on Wednesday 12 September and, over the first two days
attendances have been in line with expectations.
Ladbrokes are once again the main sponsor for the Festival. The Ladbrokes St
Leger will be staged on Saturday 15 September when the largest crowds of the
Festival are expected.
The redevelopment has encompassed a new state-of-the-art grandstand with
enhanced hospitality facilities, a new stables complex, new conference and
exhibition facilities, a modern weighing room, new accommodation blocks for
racing professionals and new racing surface on the flat-course.
Planning permission was granted earlier this year for the second phase of the
Racecourse's development, namely a combined hotel and residential development
incorporating a 120-bedroom four-star hotel, with associated restaurant and bar
facilities on the lower floors, and 34 residential apartments on the upper
floors. Construction is expected to commence on the second phase at the end of
2007 with completion anticipated for the first half of 2009.
Doncaster Racecourse is operated by a subsidiary of Arena in which Arena owns 81
per cent and Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council owns 19 per cent although,
for the first 30 years of its operation, Arena will receive 92.5 per cent of the
subsidiary's profits. The subsidiary holds a 99-year lease over Doncaster
Racecourse.
Mark Elliott, Chief Executive of Arena Leisure Plc, commented:
'To have brought the St Leger Festival back to its home in Doncaster as planned
is a major achievement.
'The wonderful new facilities are attracting racegoers, sponsors, bookmakers and
horses, trainers and jockeys of the highest quality. Doncaster Racecourse can
now be classed as a world-class leisure, business and racing venue

Arena Leisure reports good start to year
MoneyAM
Arena Leisure said it expects to report profits before tax and interest for 2007 of around £6m, which is in line with market expectations.
Arena, which operates seven UK racecourses, said the current year has started well and it is optimistic that it will 'move forward in 2008'.
The UK racecourse operator added that it is in discussions with 'a number of lending institutions' to secure funding for developments at its Doncaster, Wolverhampton and Lingfield racecourses, which it expects to have in place by the time its full year results are announced on March 6th.
The company also said it has signed a one-year contract to oversee the management of racing operations at the new Great Leighs Racecourse in Essex.
Arena added it will be writing down £1m of costs incurred at the end of 2005 on development work at Royal Windsor Racecourse.
