Easyjet is down 3% today from Friday.
Possibly due to market and people locking in recent gains.

I bought at average price of 530p presently at about 640p. Has had positive news releases since middle of August and fundamental projections are Vgood.

Also think longterm contracts with old soviet block countries etc. will add to balance sheets. Also further ahead are the games in London which will put bums on seats.

I am holding in PEPs ISA and SIPPS for the longterm, unless there is some negative information.

Worth a look.

RNS this am is positive.;-

easyJet signs break-through distribution deals with Amadeus and Galileo for the corporate travel market easyJet will target the $90 billion* European corporate travel market with break-through distribution deals with Amadeus and Galileo, part of Travelport
GDS.

This innovative business development will enable corporate travel agencies to view and book easyJet flights within their preferred GDS environment, alongside other carriers to make easy comparisons and bookings.

This is the first time a major European low-fares airline has made its inventory available to the GDS providers. easyJet, Amadeus and Galileo recognise the demand from the corporate travel market for easier access to easyJet\'s low-fares and attractive business-related services. easyJet also aims to grow its proportion of business passengers, currently around 20%, through the managed business travel segment, which is largely booked by travel agencies through the
GDSs.

Distribution through Amadeus and Galileo is specifically targeting travel agencies specialising in business travel and easyJet will apply a point-of-sale fee (the same principle applies to all non-internet sales, such as telephone and airport sales) to the cost of the airfare.

To enable the agreements, Amadeus and Galileo have separately delivered new technology to connect each GDS directly to easyJet\'s inventory, allowing travel agents, for the first time, to make bookings on the airline within their
everyday workflow and channel.

The agreements represent the next step in the evolution of the low-fare airline industry and reinforce the value of the GDS as a sales channel bringing gains for the low cost airline segment.

Andy Harrison, easyJet\'s Chief Executive, said:

\'This is a major step forward in our strategy to attract more business travellers. easyJet has always appealed to businesses by offering an excellent high-frequency, flexible product between Europe\'s major airports and now Europe\'s travel managers and their clients can book with easyJet, therefore removing the last barrier to the corporate travel market.\'

\'easyJet will maintain its direct sell business strategy, by adding a
point-of-sale fee we can ensure our website remains our primary distribution channel and fares will always be cheapest when booking direct online.\'

\'However, even with the point-of-sale fee, easyJet seats sold through the GDS will still be dramatically cheaper than those offered on any of the traditional airlines.\'

David Jones, Executive Vice President, Commercial, Amadeus, said:

\'This agreement with easyJet underscores and validates the effort we have made to understand and offer a tailor-made solution for the low fare airline segment.\'

\'We have built a solution that connects the GDS directly to the inventory of ticketless carriers, enabling them to distribute efficiently through the GDS.
Using this technology we can now offer business travel agencies key easyJet content, with a booking process that is integrated directly into their regular work process.\'

Bryan Conway, Managing Director, EMEA, Travelport GDS said:

\'By integrating easyJet\'s services directly into our core GDS, we are able to offer even richer content to our business travel agents and their customers.\'

\'Galileo can now provide agents with the same straightforward and highly efficient way to book this content as they have with other airlines, whilst also offering today\'s low-cost carriers with a simplified means to distribute to the travel trade.\'

Amadeus is carrying out detailed pilots in Germany, France, Spain and UK which will end in November. As soon as those pilots are concluded, Amadeus will make easyJet flights available to all eligible agencies worldwide. easyJet flights will also be available through Galileo in the UK by the end of the year and the rest of Europe in the New Year.

This announcement is the latest development in easyJet\'s campaign to increase its proportion of business passengers, currently around 20%. easyJet offers an extensive route network, high frequencies to main city airports and low-fares and this move follows the recent introduction of business passenger targeted services such as speedy boarding and the hop on an earlier flight for free policy.

BAYLIS - 09 Dec 2007 17:04 - 6 of 408

easyJet said today it carried 13.2% more passengers last month than it did in November 2006.

The Luton-based low cost airline said it carried 2.88 million passengers last month compared to the 2.55 million that flew with the airline during the same period last year.

easyJet's load factor, how full its aircraft were, was up 0.3 percentage points on the same month last year to 80.8%.

BAYLIS - 20 Dec 2007 12:17 - 7 of 408

JP Morgan has maintained its 'overweight' rating on easyJet and kept its 591p price target, anticipating continued growth of at least 20% a year from the budget airline.

The broker said it disagreed with market predictions that consumers would desert low-cost carriers as they are deserting the high street.

It said the low cost carrier segment would benefit from demand trickling down from more expensive airlines.

"Consequently, we do not expect to have to make the estimate downgrades in the LCC space that we expect to be making in the network airline segment in the coming months, and can therefore continue to anticipate 20%+pa profits growth from easyJet," JPM said.

Easyjet trials nanotechnology coating on its aircraft
15 February 2011

Easyjet is to trial a nanotechnology coating on its aircraft aimed at reducing drag and increasing fuel efficiency.

The low-cost carrier said that the Triple O coating, in use with the US military for the past 25 years, is a polymer that cross links and bonds to the paint surface, and adds an estimated 4oz to the weight of the aircraft.

Applied and distributed in Britain by Poole-based Triple O Performance Solution, the coating is claimed to reduce the build-up of debris on an aircrafts structure, leading edge and other surfaces, reducing drag on the surface of an aircraft.

.Triple O Performance Solution said the coating is applied in three stages. The surfaces are cleaned and then an oxalic-acid wash is applied to purge the pores of the surface and charge it with a positive polarity.

The surface then receives anionic nanoparticles of the Triple O emulsion, which are pulled into the pores magnetically and held there while the protective chemicals have cross linked, bonded and cured, locking Triple O into the paint.

The manufacturers of the coating estimate that it could reduce Easyjets fuel consumption by 12 per cent.

The airline has coated eight aircraft and will compare their fuel consumption with the rest of the fleet during a 12-month trial period.

Carolyn McCall, Easyjets chief executive officer, said: If we can find new ways of reducing the amount of fuel used by our aircraft, we can pass the benefits onto our passengers by offering them low fares and a lower-carbon footprint.

Ample weekend article....

Tuesday 20 November

Is easyJet (EZJ) flying high? Investors will find out when it reports its full-year results on Tuesday.

Recent news: The budget airline recently upgraded its pre-tax profits guidance range for the year ending September 2012 to between £310 million and £320 million.

Analysts' expectations: Panmure Gordon's Gert Zonneveld is forecasting revenues of c. £3.9 billion, up 12%, driven by a combination of 7% volume growth and 5% yield growth. EasyJet carried 58.4 million passengers in 2011/12.

Despite fuel costs rising by an estimated £236 million, he is expecting operating profit to rise by 29%. Pre-tax profits are expected to be up 29% to £319 million, with a 24% rise in dividends.

"Despite a challenging economic environment, and most likely a cautious outlook statement, we believe that the long-term prospects of this business remain exciting and we retain our 'buy' recommendation," Zonneveld states

EasyJet Sees Business-Credentials Boost on Moscow, Rome

By Kari Lundgren - Nov 16, 2012 12:01 AM GMT ..EasyJet Plc (EZJ)’s success in securing rights to link London with Moscow and Milan with Rome represents a breakthrough for its plan to win more business travelers, Chief Executive Officer Carolyn McCall said.

EasyJet was chosen by the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority to operate Moscow flights on Oct. 25, edging out Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd., before being selected by the Italian authorities to end Alitalia SpA’s monopoly on services from Milan Linate to Rome Fiumicino a day later.

EasyJet Plc Chief Executive Officer Carolyn McCall said, “Moscow is a business route and I think a few years ago we wouldn’t have got it because we weren’t perceived to be looking after passengers or really strong on business. And to get Linate-Fiumicino, the main business route in Italy, cannot be underestimated.”

EasyJet CEO Sees Business-Credentials Boost on Moscow, Rome Wins Simon Dawson/Bloomberg
Starting in the first half of next year, EasyJet will serve Moscow’s Domodedovo hub and aims to carry more than 230,000 passengers in the first 12 months of operations.

.“The transformational aspect is about how EasyJet is seen, the credibility,” McCall said in an interview. “Moscow is a business route and I think a few years ago we wouldn’t have got it because we weren’t perceived to be looking after passengers or really strong on business. And to get Linate-Fiumicino, the main business route in Italy, cannot be underestimated.”

While ranked second to Ryanair Holdings Plc (RYA) among Europe’s low-cost airlines, EasyJet has dropped its early no-frills approach in favor of a model where passengers can opt to pay extra for everything from food and checked bags to lounge access and flexible tickets. The Luton, England-based carrier is seeking a bigger share of the lucrative corporate-travel sector just as network carriers including IAG SA and Deutsche Lufthansa AG (LHA) recast their short-haul operations along low-cost lines.

Stock Boost
Shares of EasyJet, which was founded in 1995 with the slogan “making flying as affordable as a pair of jeans,” have surged 62 percent this year for a market value of 2.53 billion pounds ($4 billion). Dublin-based Ryanair has advanced 33 percent and is worth 6.66 billion euros ($8.5 billion).

“For us to get both in one week reinforced all the things we’ve been doing over the last two years in positioning the brand,” McCall said of the Moscow and Italy victories.

EasyJet was selected to compete with British Airways on the route to the Russian capital after offering a lead-in fare of 125 pounds and undertaking to operate two flights a day from London Gatwick airport, where it’s the biggest operator.

Starting in the first half of next year, EasyJet will serve Moscow’s Domodedovo hub using 180-seat Airbus SAS A320 single- aisle planes, and aims to carry more than 230,000 passengers in the first 12 months of operations.

The new route could also create opportunities to link with long-haul flights following a deal last week allowing passengers at Dubai-based Emirates, the world’s biggest international airline, to use their air miles to book EasyJet tickets.

Moscow Points
Russians traveling from Moscow to the Gulf on a route to be served by an Airbus A380 superjumbo from Dec. 1 would accrue enough points to fly to London with EasyJet for free, Emirates sales chief Thierry Antinori said in an interview on Nov. 6.

In Italy, EasyJet will offer five flights a day between Milan and Rome using Airbus A319 planes, opening up what McCall said has been Europe’s “last great monopoly route.”

Around 21 percent of EasyJet’s 57 million annual passengers are traveling for work, with destinations such as Amsterdam, Geneva and Paris drawing close to 30 percent business traffic.

“They’re going ever-further in competing with the network carriers,” said Douglas McNeill, an analyst at Charles Stanley in London with a “hold” rating on EasyJet. “It tends to make you think the low-cost model is more multifaceted.”

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said last week that EasyJet under McCall is as much a challenger to British Airways as his own airline, and that undercutting fares at the unit of International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (IAG) by as much as 30 percent represents “a very good medium-term strategy.”

EasyJet has also done “a good job” in targeting longer routes to countries such as Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Iceland, as well as Russia, the Irishman said at a Nov. 5 press briefing.

McCall has said four-hour flight times aren’t a departure from her company’s core strategy. The airline last year carried 5.7 million people on flights above three hours, more than the 5.4 million that long-haul specialist Virgin Atlantic attracted across the whole of its network in the 12 months ended Feb. 29.

EasyJet will post earnings figures for the year ended Sept. 30 on Nov. 20.

Final Results

· easyJet has delivered improved returns for shareholders and growth in a challenging economic environment. Profit before tax was up by 27.9% to a record £317 million and pre-tax profit margins grew by 1 percentage point to 8.2% despite a £182 million increase in unit fuel costs. Return on Capital Employed excluding operating lease adjustment improved by 1.8 percentage points to 14.5% (while Return on Capital Employed including operating lease adjustment improved by 1.5 percentage points to 11.3%.)

· Total revenue per seat grew by 5.9% (7.5% at constant currency) to £58.51 driven by: improved load factors; the annualisation of changes to fees and charges made in 2011; the careful targeting of capacity to markets with the strongest returns potential; improvements to easyJet.com; the success of the 'Europe by easyJet' campaign and from capacity constraint in the market.

· Seats flown grew by 5.5% to 65.9 million, load factors increased by 1.4 percentage points to 88.7% and passenger numbers rose 7.1% to 58.4 million.

· Cost per seat excluding fuel fell by 1% for the full year (and grew by 1.8% at constant currency). Unit cost increases were driven by increased charges at regulated airports especially in Spain and Italy and higher load factors. Cost pressures were partially offset by shorter average sector lengths, the easyJet Lean programme delivering significant savings in ground handling and non-regulated airport charges, by the increased proportion of larger A320 aircraft in the fleet and by the exceptionally low levels of disruption in comparison to previous years.

· easyJet generated operating cash (excluding dividend payments) of £457 million in the year, an increase of 7.8% compared to the prior year.

· In light of the continued strong financial performance of easyJet and the confidence in easyJet's position within European short-haul aviation, the Board has decided to amend the dividend policy from this year to pay out one-third of profit after tax each year, up from the one-fifth payout introduced last year. As a result the recommended ordinary dividend is 21.5pence per share or £85 million.

· Earnings per share grew 19.0% to 62.5 pence per share.

EasyJet full-year profit up 28 pct 20 Nov 2012 - 07:15

LONDON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - British low-cost airline easyJet posted a 28 percent rise in full-year profit, helped by a surge in late summer demand and bucking tough conditions elsewhere in the airline sector. Europe's second-largest budget airline after Ryanair on Tuesday reported a pretax profit of 317 million pounds ($504.46 million) on revenues 11.6 percent higher at 3.85 billion pounds for the year to the end of September. The company more than doubled its full year dividend to 21.5 pence and said it planned to amend the dividend policy from this year to pay out one-third of profit after tax each year, up from the one-fifth payout introduced last year. EasyJet, the largest carrier at London's Gatwick airport, said passenger numbers rose 7.1 percent to 58.4 million during the year, with load factors - a measure of how full its planes are - up 1.4 percentage points to 88.7 percent. UPDATE 1-EasyJet pledges higher dividend as profits jump20 Nov 2012 - 07:46

(Adds details) By Rhys Jones LONDON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - British low-cost airline easyJet pledged to pay a higher dividend on Tuesday after outperforming the sector with a 28 percent rise in full-year profit that was helped by a surge in late summer demand. Europe's second-largest budget airline after Ryanair reported a pretax profit of 317 million pounds ($504.46 million) on revenues 11.6 percent higher at 3.85 billion pounds for the year to the end of September. In October easyJet had said it was expecting to report an annual pretax profit of between 310 million and 320 million pounds. [ID:nL6E8L317Q] Luton, southern England-based easyJet more than doubled its full year dividend to 21.5 pence from 10.5 pence and announced plans to increase future handouts to shareholders. "In light of the continued strong financial performance of easyJet and the confidence in easyJet's position within European short-haul aviation, the board has decided to amend the dividend policy from this year," said Carolyn McCall, who has helped double the airline's profits since she took over as chief executive in July 2010. The group will seek "to pay out one-third of profit after tax each year, up from the one-fifth payout introduced last year." EasyJet's strong performance bucks tough conditions elsewhere in the airline sector where several carriers have been hit by a toxic mix of high fuel costs, weak consumer confidence and the eurozone crisis. Earlier this month IAG’s Spanish airline Iberia announced plans to axe almost a quarter of its workforce and rationalise its network under a restructuring plan, while Germany’s Lufthansa, which has already slashed hundreds of jobs, said it would step-up cost-cuts to counter rising fuel prices and limited growth in its core market. [ID:nL5E8M92G7] [ID:nL5E8MD5MB] Since the start of the year airlines including loss-making Spanair and Hungarian flag-carrier Malev [MALV.UL] have ceased operations, leaving gaps in the market that low-cost competitors have been quick to exploit. [ID:nL5E8D30IC] EasyJet, the largest carrier at London's Gatwick airport, said a strong rise in summer bookings from Britain to Malaga and Alicante in Spain and Faro in Portugal had helped, while it also increased the number of flights between top business destinations during the year. The carrier said passenger numbers rose 7.1 percent to 58.4 million during the year, with load factors - a measure of how full its planes are - up 1.4 percentage points to 88.7 percent. The airline, which will fly between London, Manchester and Moscow from next year, said its profit margins grew by 1 percentage point to 8.2 percent during the year, despite a 182 million pound increase in its fuel costs. It expects its fuel bill to be around 30 million pounds higher in 2012/13. Market update inc. Easy Jet profits
20/11/2012 | Filed under: Comment & Opinion | Posted by: IG Index
Moody’s has put the brakes on the market rally by downgrading France, prompting the FTSE to drop 22 points to 5722 by 10:15am (London time).

After both European and US markets had started the week in such strongly positive mood, the overnight news that Moody’s has downgraded French sovereign debt from Aaa to Aa1 has put an end to that. This has certainly dampened sentiment, although in reality the bond markets had anticipated this following on from January’s downgrade by Standard & Poor’s. Traders will be keeping a close eye on European banks that might be affected by the French downgrade, particularly on yesterday’s news that Spanish banks had increased their bad debt ratios to 10.7%.

On the equity front easyJet gave shareholders plenty to smile about, none more so than its founder and largest shareholder Stelios Haji-Ioannou. With the company more than doubling its dividend to 21.5p, over a third of the company’s annual profits, the share price was up 44p or 6.8% by 10:15am (London time). easyJet’s strategy of targeting business passengers has seen profits fly, increasing from £248 million last year to £317 million in 2012.

Broker snap: easyJet a 'buy' after in-line full year, says Nomura
Tue 20/11/2012 - 09:51:00

Nomura has reiterated its 'buy' rating for budget airline easyJet after the firm met expectations with its full-year figures on Tuesday.

Profit before tax (PBT) for the year to September 30th came in at £317m, slightly above Nomura's £315m estimate and towards to top-end of previous guidance of £310-320m.

Full-year revenue per seat growth was 5.9%, below the broker's 6.5% forecasts, but this was heavily distorted by currency, analysts said. Excluding currency, growth was more or less in line with the third quarter at 7.5%.

Meanwhile, Nomura said: "With the strong cash flow and liquidity levels above plan (£4m per aircraft), easyJet has decided to increase the dividend payout from 20% to 33%. This reflects the confidence in returns."

However, the broker notes that easyJet's outlook continues to reflect headwinds at this early stage, such as fuel, currency movements and airport costs.

Nomura said that given these headwinds, it maintains its current-year PBT estimate of £325m.

"We recognise potential upside could come from allocated seating, yield management improvements and ongoing network developments," the broker said.

easyJet's shares were up 5.90% at 691p in mid-morning trade.

Budget airline Easyjet to launch Manchester flights direct to Moscow and Prague
Exclusive by Adam Jupp

November 20, 2012

The new Easyjet routes will created 80 jobs at Manchester Airport The new Easyjet routes will created 80 jobs at Manchester Airport
between Manchester and Russia will be launched next year.

The M.E.N can today reveal that budget airline easyJet will fly four times a week to Moscow from March.

As part of the move, the low-cost carrier will base an extra aircraft at Manchester – creating 80 jobs for pilots, cabin crew and ground handling staff.

EasyJet will also launch services to Prague in the Czech Republic and Greece's second city Thessaloniki in the spring.

Chief executive Carolyn McCall said: "We are pleased to announce the launch of the first ever scheduled services between Manchester and Moscow.

"Russia has a fast growing economy and is a country rich in culture and history - so a direct link from the north of England has been long overdue.

"With our strong European network we look forward to connecting Moscow with other European cities.

"We are also pleased to be able to announce further expansion from Manchester with the arrival of another aircraft in March 2013. This is great news for the regional economy creating much-needed jobs in the city.

"Moscow and Prague will appeal to business and leisure travellers alike, with Thessaloniki promising to be a popular choice for holidaymakers from the region. We look forward to welcoming passengers onboard our new services in spring next year."

The announcement comes just a month after the airline brought its seventh plane to Manchester and said it planned to expand its presence even further over the next 12 months.

The four-hour flights to Moscow will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays using an Airbus A320 with 180 seats.

Manchester will become the only airport in Britain outside of London offering Moscow flights, and the airline expects to carry more than 60,000 passengers in its first year of running the service. Manchester Airports Group chief commercial officer Ken O’Toole said: "This is a significant announcement for easyJet and we are pleased that they have chosen to fly from Manchester Airport to Moscow.

"This route will allow passengers to fly direct from the north west and not have to use London for travel to Russia.

"The basing of an additional aircraft and the inclusion of Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, is also welcome - as are more services to the Czech Republic through Prague.

"EasyJet will serve 32 routes from Manchester next Summer and we look forward to working with them on the continued growth."

The new plane being brought to Manchester by easyJet will fly to Prague three times a week – on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The Thessaloniki service will operate on Mondays and Fridays. EasyJet said bringing a new plane to Manchester would also support 250 indirect jobs.

The airline first started flying from Manchester in March 2008 and earlier this year revealed it would introduce allocated seating for all flights from Manchester from November.

Anyone wishing to change their seat will have the option to choose from three brands of pricing – £3, £8 or £12 – depending on where they want to sit.

Anyone who chooses not to pay to select their seat will be given their seat number when they check in.

UPDATE 2-EasyJet doubles dividend as European rivals struggle
20 Nov 2012 - 14:54

* FY pretax profit 317 mln stg vs 248 mln stg * Revenue 3.85 bln stg vs 3.45 bln stg * Dividend 21.5 pence vs 10.5 pence * Shares up 6.3 pct (Adds CEO, analyst comment, shares, detail) By Rhys Jones LONDON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - British low-cost airline easyJet doubled its dividend after annual results showed it took business from fading European rivals and customers bought more cheap flights for late summer holidays. Competitors are struggling to deal with high fuel costs, weak consumer confidence and the eurozone crisis. Some ceased operations this year, leaving gaps in the market that low-cost airlines have been quick to exploit. [ID:nL5E8D30IC] IAG’s Spanish carrier Iberia said this month it would axe almost a quarter of its workforce and rationalise its network. Germany’s Lufthansa said it would deepen cost cuts to counter the rising fuel prices and limited market growth. [ID:nL5E8M92G7] "Set against the difficulties which the industry has been facing, typified by the recent Iberia announcement, easyJet has managed to shoot the lights out," said Richard Hunter, head of equities at stockbroker Hargreaves Lansdown. "The doubling of the dividend was a clear statement of management intent around easyJet’s prospects." Shares in EasyJet, which have risen by 80 percent this year compared to a 17 percent rise for the FTSE 250, were up 6.3 percent at 694.25 pence by 1053 GMT, valuing the airline at around 2.75 billion pounds. Europe's second-largest budget airline after Ryanair reported pretax profit up 28 percent at 317 million pounds ($504.46 million) for the year to the end of September, at the upper end of its guidance. [ID:nL6E8L317Q] The company based in Luton, southern England announced a full-year dividend of 21.5 pence, up from 10.5 pence last year. Profits have doubled since Carolyn McCall took over as chief executive in July 2010. She said easyJet would begin paying shareholders one third of its profit after tax each year, up from one fifth last year, confident in its strength on European short-haul routes. EasyJet said it benefited from sun-starved Britons taking last-minute holidays to Malaga and Alicante in Spain and Faro in Portugal to flee wet weather at home and from Londoners getting away after the Olympics. It added flights between top business destinations and introduced flexible tickets and allocated seating in an attempt to steal corporate customers from legacy carriers such as IAG's British Airways. "Companies are being more cost conscious, which has helped us win more corporate work," said McCall, adding that easyJet had won accounts with Britain's Parliament, defence ministry and several banks and insurers in the last year. The airline is in talks with planemakers Airbus , Boeing and Bombardier over the purchase of more fuel efficient jets and plans to increase seat capacity by up to 5 percent a year over the coming five years. EasyJet, which will fly between London, Manchester and Moscow from next year, said revenues increased 11.6 percent to 3.85 billion pounds, while its fuel bill rose 182 million pounds to 1.15 billion pounds. The carrier expects fuel costs to be around 30 million pounds higher in 2012/13. EasyJet defies recession and suspect accounting standards
By Richard Beddard | Wed, 21/11/2012 - 09:37

EasyJet has impressed me. Not just its full-year performance reported yesterday, but the way the airline reported it.

Normally big capital intensive companies have long annual reports that suck time and energy in the reading and often leave the reader clueless. EasyJet explains last year's good performance, a combination of skill and luck, with clarity and, anticipating standards that will require companies to capitalise operating leases, bringing leased aircraft on to the balance sheet and treating them as debt, it has gone ahead and capitalised them. It's an important step because capitalising them gives investors a more accurate impression of the capital required by the company and profitability, which is the return on capital.

The bad news is, EasyJet doesn't think this accounting practice will be introduced as a standard at least until 2016. Until then, for most companies, investors will have to do it for themselves.

This EasyJet spreadsheet uses only the most recent results and capitalises the operating leases at seven times lease payments, the multiplier used by EasyJet:

Although net debt rose very slightly, it's a reflection of how well EasyJet did last year in comparison to the earlier one considering the company paid no dividend in 2011 but paid £48m in dividends in 2012 plus a special dividend of £150m. The other key measures, adjusted after-tax operating profit and operating cash flow indicate strong growth.

One of the reasons the airline fared so well despite recession in Europe, where it flies to, is reduced cancellations. Cancellations are not entirely in the control of airlines; bad weather and terrorist threats can be more prevalent one year than another and in 2012 there were relatively few cancellation events, but the company has also been improving the way it manages them by investing in its Operational Control Centre. Like Share Sleuth portfolio member Dart, which operates a packaged holiday company, and Air Partner, a charter company, EasyJet reports that demand from holiday makers is holding up. It's also gaining commercial custom from private and public sector customers travelling to the popular destinations it flies to cheaply.

EasyJet differentiates itself from some of the low cost competition by flying the major routes, while still keeping costs and undercutting "legacy" airlines, often former flag-carriers, it competes with on those routes.

Judging EasyJet on its latest results alone is dangerous though, because airlines are cyclical and profitability was much lower between 2008 and 2010. And that's a shame because using averages encompassing that period would likely produce a lower estimated valuation than the latest results, which already indicate EasyJet must grow .

Company guidance for 2013 is capacity growth of 3.5% (UBS 3.5% with traffic at 4%), 1H13e
yields expected to be low to mid-single digits (UBS full year 3.5%) and per seat costs (ex fuel/

f.uel) despite EZJ guiding for a £35m benefit from easyJet Lean (although offset by airport fees). Greatest near term risk to forecasts relates to winter disruption
We think the greatest near term risk to forecasts is a winter which is not benign. We
acknowledge we are unable to forecast the weather but should industry capacity discipline hold,
easyJet deliver on reserved seating and business travel, and the cost savings come through we
see upside risk to consensus forecasts. We increase our 2013e and 2014e EPS from 66p and
6.9p to 69p and 75p respectively. Valuation – PT increased from 680p to 780p with Buy rating
We slightly increase the multiple from 7x 2013e EV/Ebitdar to 7.5x EV/Ebitdar 2013e given the
continued strong performance (historic mid cycle range is 7-8x). This provides a new PT of 780p

JP MORGAN.

 Competitor capacity expected to be benign: We believe one of the key
reasons EZJ has been able to grow profits despite a c£230m fuel cost
headwind, is the capacity and pricing discipline seen from competitors in
the market (driven by high fuel costs). With the price of fuel expected to
remain elevated in FY13, we expect this to continue. EZJ expects
capacity from its competitors on its routes to fall -1.8% in 1H13, a
slightly bigger decline than seen in 1H12, so EZJ should once again we
able to grow profits in FY13 despite its cost headwinds

 Valuation: On our estimates, EZJ trades on 5.9x FY13E (Sept)
EV/EBITDAR and 10.2x P/E, compared to Ryanair on 6.8x FY13E
(Mar) EV/EBITDAR and 12.4x P/E. Both EZJ/Ryanair are trading at
their 2012 YTD average P/E (based on 12-month forward consensus
EPS), although EZJ trades at a discount to Ryanair on 10.1x vs. 11.9x.

Fastjet (LON:FJET)
aim is to eventually ferry 12 million passengers between cities in Africa using the low-cost blueprint patented in Europe – an undertaking that would require a 40 strong fleet, but which would create a US$1 billion turnover business. Broker Notes 3/04/2013

Panmure Gordon re-iterated its "buy" recommendation on budget airline Easyjet (EZJ) with a 1,250p target price. The broker is impressed with the Q1 revenue per seat growth of 8% in a result which was significantly ahead of market expectations and news which resulted in the firm increasing its H1 revenue guidance to a range of 6-8%. Looking ahead, Panmure believes that anticipated 3-5% capacity growth will allow yields to grow strongly, boosted by increased penetration of the business market amongst other factors.

easyJet expects to deliver a first half performance in line with the guidance given in the 24 January 2013 Interim Management Statement.

Revenue per seat growth at constant currency for the six months to 31 March 2013 was c. 8.5%, marginally ahead of the guidance issued on 24 January 2013, driven in part by stronger than anticipated late bookings in the run up to Easter. easyJet's first half revenue per seat growth was approximately 1.5 percentage points higher due to the timing of Easter which fell on 31 March, a week earlier than 2012.

Comment from Digital Look

"EasyJet shares´ ascent shows no sign of stopping. Passenger numbers have grown over the last year as has the load factor for its planes - a measure of how full they are. The company has further invested in 25 pairs of arrival and departure slots at Gatwick, which looks set to increase profits further. Thus, the only question seems to be whether it should buy more aircraft to try and steal more market share from competitors, especially business travellers. For the company´s largest shareholder, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, that would be a vanity excercise and a drag on profitability. The earnings multiple of 14.5, falling to 13, does not look overstretched for a growth business and the yield is 2.1%, with plenty of scope to increase. The shares are once again a buy, Questor concludes. "

easyJet Q3 revenue climbs 10.5% but load factor declines

StockMarketWire.com

No-frills carrier easyJet said total revenue for the third quarter to end-June grew by 10.5% to £1.142bn, driven by a 3.6% increase in capacity and improvement in revenue per seat, which improved by 6.1% to £61.44.

Revenue per seat grew by 6.1% at constant currency or by 6.7% on a reported basis to £61.44 per seat driven by network optimisation and the on-going programme of revenue initiatives including the 'europe by easyJet' campaign, improvements to the revenue management system and the benign capacity environment for easyJet.

The load factor of 88.2% was 0.9 percentage points lower than prior year primarily driven by the timing of Easter which fell on 31 March 2013, a week earlier than in 2012. Passengers carried increased by 2.6% to 16.4 million.

Cost per seat excluding fuel increased by 4.5% at constant currency or by 6.4% on a reported basis. The increase was driven by the anticipated annualisation of significant increases in airport charges at regulated airports, especially those in Spain and Italy together with higher than anticipated disruption.

easyJet has secured its new framework arrangements for new aircraft through to 2022 to allow it to continue to execute its strategy.

easyJet announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Flybe's 25 slots at Gatwick from summer 2014 for a total consideration of £20 million, subject to Flybe's shareholder approval.

Cash and money market deposits were £1,454 million and net cash was £714 million at 30 June 2013 demonstrating easyJet's continued strong balance sheet.

easyJet expects profit before tax for the year to 30 September 2013 to be between £450 million and £480 million assuming no further significant disruption."

Final Results

Strategic progress

Drive demand, conversion and yields across Europe

· Total revenue per seat grew by 7.0% to £62.58 driven by a benign capacity environment and positive management action including allocated seating, improvements to easyJet.com and the 'europe by easyJet' campaign.

· Seats flown grew by 3.3% to 68.0 million as a result of easyJet's disciplined approach to capacity, load factors increased by 0.6 percentage points to 89.3% and passenger numbers rose by 4.0% to 60.8 million.

Maintain cost advantage

· Cost per seat excluding fuel increased 3.9% at constant currency for the full year (5.3% on a reported basis). 2.0 percentage points of the cost increase was driven by increased charges at regulated airports in Spain and Italy and a further 0.8 percentage point relates to increased disruption and de-icing costs. Inflationary pressures were largely offset by the continued success of the easyJet lean programme.

Build strong number 1 and 2 network positions
· easyJet has consolidated its presence in key airports with over a 40% share of short haul in key airports such as Gatwick, Milan Malpensa and Basel (2) and has built up its share of French regional flying and grown strongly in Italy.

· easyJet announced new base openings in Hamburg and in Naples. This was enabled in part by easyJet's returns focused decision to close the Madrid base.

Disciplined use of capital

· easyJet ended the financial year with £1,237 million of cash, an increase of £354 million against the position at 30 September 2012. easyJet had adjusted net debt of £156 million.

· The Board is recommending a return to shareholders of £175 million which will be in the form of a special dividend of 44.1 pence a share and is subject to shareholder approval at the Company's AGM on 13 February 2014. This is in addition to the regular ordinary dividend of £133 million or 33.5 pence a share based on its existing policy of paying out one third of annual profit after tax.

· Following the acquisition of Flybe's slots at Gatwick, easyJet exercised the six remaining aircraft options under the current generation Airbus agreement on 31 October 2013 for delivery in spring 2015.

UPDATE 1-EasyJet underlines advantage over Ryanair as profit soars
19 Nov 2013 - 07:49

(Adds details) LONDON, Nov 19 (Reuters) - British budget airline easyJet underlined its growing advantage over struggling Irish rival Ryanair on Tuesday, reporting annual profit at the top end of forecasts and returning cash to shareholders. The Luton, southern England-based firm said on Tuesday it made a pretax profit of 478 million pounds ($770 million) for the year to the end of September, up 51 percent and at the upper end of its forecast for 470-480 million pounds profit, provided last month. Sales rose 10.5 percent to 4.26 billion pounds. The airline also said it plans to return 175 million pounds to shareholders through a special dividend "as evidence of our continued confidence in the future prospects of the business" said Chief Executive Carolyn McCall. The upbeat assessment is in contrast to that given by Ryanair, Europe's biggest budget airline, which this month cut its annual profit target for the second time in two months and admitted it needed to improve customer service. [IDLnS8N0H8010] Rival airlines have been struggling with high fuel costs and weak consumer confidence, sending some smaller carriers out of business while the likes of British Airways owner IAG and Air France-KLM have cut routes, leaving gaps that low-cost airlines have been quick to exploit. Over the last three years easyJet has added flights on routes where rivals have cut back, and introduced more flights between top business destinations. It has also added flexible ticketing to allow passengers to change their flight up to two hours before scheduled departure time, and allocated seating in an attempt to steal corporate customers. EasyJet proposed a full year dividend of 33.5 pence a share, 55.6 percent up on last year, and a special dividend of 44.1 pence per share, making a total payout to investors of 308 million pounds. It said forward bookings were in line with last year but that its first quarter would be impacted by tough year-on-year comparisons due to strong post-Olympics demand in the UK and travel restrictions to Egypt. However, easyJet still expects to grow capacity, measured in seats flown, by 5 percent in the coming year. LONDON (Reuters) - British budget airline easyJet underlined its growing advantage over struggling Irish rival Ryanair on Tuesday, reporting annual profit at the top end of forecasts and returning cash to shareholders.

UPDATE 2-EasyJet's profit leap underlines advantage over Ryanair

19 Nov 2013 - 11:57

(Adds CEO, analyst comment, shares, details) By Rhys Jones LONDON, Nov 19 (Reuters) - British budget airline easyJet reported a sharp rise in annual profit and said it would pay a 175 million pound ($282 million) special dividend to shareholders, underlining its advantage over larger Irish rival Ryanair . EasyJet's pretax profit rose 51 percent in the financial year ended September, helped by the introduction of allocated seating across its routes and strong revenues in many of its European markets. Chief Executive Carolyn McCall said on Tuesday that the airline, which carried 61 million passengers, offered "friendly service so that we can continue to win in a more competitive market." EasyJet's upbeat assessment was in contrast to that given by Ryanair, Europe's biggest budget airline by passengers, which earlier this month cut its annual profit target for the second time in two months and admitted it needed to improve customer service. [ID:nL5N0IP086] Europe's airlines are grappling with high fuel costs and weak consumer confidence, which have sent some smaller carriers including Spanair and Hungary's Malev out of business in the last two years leaving gaps for low-cost airlines to exploit. Older traditional airlines such as IAG , Air France-KLM and Lufthansa , are cutting jobs, renegotiating staff contracts and dropping uncompetitive routes to get costs down to similar levels as budget carriers. Shares in easyJet, which have doubled over the last year, were 7 percent higher at 1150 GMT on Tuesday, valuing the airline at more than 5 billion pounds. Ryanair was up 1.6 percent. < ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BREAKINGVIEWS-Easyjet’s growth will get harder to replicate [ID:nL5N0J421Y] ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^> TOUGHER OUTLOOK Over the last three years Luton, southern England-based easyJet has added flights on routes where rivals have cut back, and introduced more flights between top business destinations. It has also added flexible ticketing to allow passengers to change their flight up to two hours before scheduled departure time and allocated seating in an attempt to steal corporate customers. Typically budget airlines have not given customers a numbered seat, resulting in a rush to board planes. EasyJet, which recently took over Flybe's slots at London's Gatwick airport, said it carried 11 million business passengers during the 2012/13 financial year, 1 million more than the previous year. "We are flattered by what our customers say about us and the results show the hard yards we have put in are paying off," CEO McCall said. However, she warned that easyJet faces a challenge this winter as rivals add capacity. She expects European capacity to rise 2 percent in the first half, compared with a 4 percent fall last year. "EasyJet is setting expectation for a tougher 2014," said Jefferies analyst Mark Irvine-Fortescue, citing increased competition from new low-cost carriers looking to expand, such as Norwegian Air Shuttle and Vueling. "There will continue to be retrenchment by less efficient airlines," he said. EasyJet proposed a full-year dividend of 33.5 pence a share, 56 percent up on last year, and a special dividend of 44.1 pence per share, or 175 million pounds, taking its total payout to investors to 308 million pounds. easyJet Flying High on Year End Results
By Lou Gutheil

PUBLISHED: 19 Nov 2013 @ 14:46 | Comments (0) | More info about Lou Gutheil

easyJet’s (LSE:EZJ) share price continued its year-long ascent this morning after some mild turbulence over the past three months. By 1:00 pm today EZJ’s share price was 1,359 pence, up 103.0 from 1,256, an increase of 8.2% on the day.

The company released its final results for the year ending 30 September this morning, and the results were quite impressive.

51% increase in profits to £478 million (2012: £317 million)
10% increase in total revenue to £4,258 (2012: £3,854 million)
3% increase in operating margin basis points from 8.2% to 11.2%
55.8% proposed increase in dividend per share from 21.5 to 33.5 pence
Revenue per seat: up 7.0%
Seats flown: up 3.3%
Return on capital: up 6.1%
On-time performance rating: 87%

If the numbers are interesting, easyJet’s strategic plan is exciting. Clearly, executive management understands the issues faced by the airline industry, and its strategy, therefore, continues to be robustly successful. Whilst legacy airlines struggle to transform themselves, easyJet keeps carving out a larger piece of its niche and, at the same time, proving that it can be done profitably.

Building a low-cost airline is much more than offering low fares. In fact, the low fares are not a feature of a low-cost airline, they are a benefit made possible by operating the airline at controlled, lower than average costs. The company summed up its advantage in the competitive skyscape: ”easyJet has a cost advantage over its competitors in the airports that it operates from, allowing it to offer competitive and affordable fares. Its key competitors in the primary airports it operates from tend to be legacy carriers with older, less efficient aircraft, lower asset utilisation, lower seat densities and load factors and higher levels of fixed costs. easyJet’s lower cost base enables it to offer the affordable fares its customers value.”

Moving forward, the entire cost-driven strategy remains key to the company’s expansion and growth. ”easyJet is committed to maintaining its structural cost advantage against the legacy and charter operators who are its major competitors in the airports it operates from. Under the sponsorship of the Chief Financial Officer, easyJet lean is a programme designed to ensure unit cost growth excluding fuel is kept below the prevailing market inflation. The focus is on both reducing existing costs and initiatives designed to keep cost out, with targets set through to 2015 and beyond.”

Speaking of expansion and growth, easyJet also announced today that it will launch two additional routes out of Gatwick on 30 March 2014. Those flights will operate twice daily to Brussels and four times weekly to Strasbourg, adding to the 107 routes already being flown out of the airport. The company projects that it will be flying close to 1.3 million additional passengers per year following March 2013 and it will be hiring around 200 additional flight and cabin crew members in the interim to ensure service to scale.

Carolyn McCall, easyJet CEO, said “easyJet has delivered a strong full year performance and made significant progress against executing its strategic priorities. The results reflect easyJet’s continued structural advantage in the European short-haul market against both the legacy and low cost competition.”

Looking ahead, “easyJet expects that legacy carriers will continue to cut capacity from their unprofitable short-haul operations but that there will be increased competition from the new low-cost carriers looking to expand. Whilst the benign capacity environment is unlikely to continue in the short term, there will continue to be retrenchment by less efficient airlines and therefore opportunities for easyJet to continue to take profitable share in its core markets.”

Its keen awareness of the need to maintain tightly-controlled operational efficiency will be the foundation upon which easyJet will continue to flourish.

Easyjet makes money from selling seats
Hong Kong Herald Sunday 24th November, 2013

Easyjet has enjoyed a rise in fortune due to its seat booking option.

Chief executive for the company, Carolyn McCall, said the airline was greatly boosted by the option.

She said the company had taken in a 51% rise in yearly pre-tax profits partially due to the introduction of allocated seats.

Allowing passengers to book their seats, she said, had improved profitability greatly, with the result being a special dividend payment for shareholders.

A payout from Easyjet to shareholders will amount to around 72 US cents per share.

The airline will also grant a regular ordinary dividend payment of 54 US cents a share, based on its existing policy of paying out one third of annual profit after tax.

Easyjet saw average profits per seat rise 46%. It expects to increase passenger numbers over the year ahead.

easyJet upgraded by Jefferies

25th November 2013, 14:04

Analysts at Jefferies are becoming increasingly confident that easyJet [LON:EZJ] will return to a period of share price outperformance, following a summer pause, according to their airlines industry research note, issued today.

The broker stated that it has become more relaxed over the company’s ability to maintain a strong competitive position, through ongoing self-help initiatives, and believes it is also in a better position to return cash to shareholders.

As a result, Jefferies has upgraded its recommendation on the stock to ‘buy’ from ‘hold’.

The broker has also increased its price target to 1,620 pence per share from 1,470 pence.

In the same note, analysts have retained their ‘buy’ recommendation on International Consolidated Airlines Group [LON:IAG], albeit, conceding that the shares may pause for breath until further news is forthcoming regarding the Iberia restructuring.

IAG’s price target has been increased to 410 pence per share (previously 355 pence) to reflect the “encouraging progress” made to date.

EasyJet goes after Chinese travelers

Dec 03, 2013
LONDON, England - EasyJet will hope to cash in on the growth of Chinese outbound travel with a new dedicated Chinese homepage.

The low-cost carrier has launched a website with simplified Chinese information about the airline and an ‘Inspire Me’ tool where they can find destination information.

Bookings will be connected through a Chinese version of Booking.com.

In addition the airline has signed up onto VisitBritain’s Welcome Charter, with its efforts amidst a rise in Chinese taking easyJet flights.

“This year easyJet has seen a 25% increase in bookings from China versus 2012. Along with the other BRIC economies, the demand from Chinese customers is predicted to continue to grow over the coming years which means that, with a dedicated homepage, easyJet is ideally positioned to capture more of the market of the millions of Chinese who are travelling to and within Europe every year,” said easyJet’s chief executive Carolyn McCall.

“I am delighted to also announce that easyJet is signing up to VisitBritain’s China Welcome Charter, the aim of which is for businesses in the UK to ensure that by 2015 the UK is the most welcoming destination in Europe,” she added.

Its announcement comes as Prime Minister David Cameron embarks on a trade visit to China with 130 business delegates.

Speaking about the China Welcome Charter, Cameron said: “This government’s priority is to secure the economic recovery and we are determined to all we can to help British companies to succeed. I am firmly committed to playing my part which is why I have taken more than 130 business delegates to China. My aim is to open the door for them in this fast-growing market, creating opportunities for them to expand their business.”

EasyJet hits record after Goldman rethink

By Bryce Elder

In the three years since Goldman Sachs removed EasyJet from its “buy” list, the stock has gained 213 per cent. Yesterday, after a change of lead analyst, it was added back.

Goldman forecast EasyJet to return £1.5bn to shareholders between 2016 and 2018.
High quality global journalism requires investment.

While fare growth was likely to stall, network expansion and cost savings could still deliver annual earnings growth of around 11 per cent, the broker argued.

“We believe EasyJet will continue to capitalise on significant growth opportunities in the European short-haul market as legacy carriers further restructure their inefficient cost bases,” said analyst Alexia Dogani, who was poached by Goldman in July from Liberum Capital.

“Any potential Alitalia network restructuring would also offer a growth opportunity as EasyJet has the largest overlap on its short-haul network.”

Goldman had a £19.60 target on EasyJet

EasyJet upgraded by Credit Suisse
13th January 2014, 15:36

Analysts at Credit Suisse have upgraded their recommendation on airline carrier EasyJet [LON:EZJ] to ‘outperform’ from ‘neutral’ believing the market has yet to price in, what they calculate to be, a 43 per cent growth in earnings and a 23 per cent increase in cashflow over the next three years.

The broker has upped its price target by 31 per cent to 1,988 pence per share (previously 1,518 pence) which implies a potential total shareholder return of around 26 per cent.

“While EZJ has performed strongly in recent years, we view it as a multi-year margin accretion story, and accordingly see an attractive multi-year value proposition,” the broker said.

“We view margin build-out as key to the easyJet investment case, and our analysis of both volume and pricing opportunities open to EZJ suggests the current stock price implies low market expectations for future margin appreciation for current peak levels.”

The shares of EasyJet have almost doubled in the past twelve months and are up by 33 per cent in the last three months.

At 3:32pm: EasyJet share price was up 44.5 pence at 1,693.5 pence

easyJet's first quarter is expected to have been disrupted by the power outage the Gatwick North Terminal over Christmas and winter storms, Numis said ahead of the airline's results on Thursday.

However, the broker believes that overall the disruption is unlikely to have had a material negative impact relative to the prior year.

It said: "Our confidence in the future for EasyJet is based on: the quality of its route network (the right slot times at slot-restricted airports); the opportunity to continue to take share from legacy carries; prospects of increased share of business traffic as the hard work that EasyJet has done with GDS providers (Amadeus etc) and travel management companies starts to bear fruit; likely future benefit from yield managing allocation seating; and, a management team that remains focused on improving returns for shareholders."

The broker recommended an 'add' rating and target price of 1,900p.

easyJet's shares have risen 35% since the company's preliminary results on November 1st 2013. At the time of the results the carrier painted a bright outlook for its future and propsed a return to shareholders of £175m via a special dividend of 44.1p per shares.

Forward bookings for the first half of 2014 were said to be in line with the previous year. EasyJet also anticipated cost per seat, excluding fuel, to rise by 2% in the first half. Revenue was tipped to grow by 2%.

HARRYCAT - 23 Jan 2014 07:52 - 139 of 408

StockMarketWire.com
Budget airline easyJet said seats flown grew by 4.1% to 16.1 million in the quarter to end-December. Passengers carried increased by 4.2% to 14.3 million, and the load factor increased by 0.1 percentage points to 88.7%.

Revenue per seat grew as expected by 3.4% on a reported basis to £55.71 per seat or by 1.4% at constant currency despite strong prior year comparators from post-Olympic trading in the UK and a challenging competitive environment. The growth in revenue per seat was driven by careful management of capacity, combined with the performance of allocated seating and the management of fees and charges. Revenue per seat also benefited from longer average sector lengths in the quarter.

Cost per seat excluding fuel increased by 3.0% on a reported basis and by 1.2% on a constant currency basis. This was driven by anticipated increases in charges at regulated airports and by increases in maintenance costs associated with the planned ageing of the fleet and increased proportion of leased aircraft.

easyJet announced a new base in Naples which will be operational from Spring 2014 and the routes which will be flown from its new base in Hamburg.

The group had a strong balance sheet with cash and money market deposits of £1.1 billion as at 31 December 2013.

With first half bookings in line with last year, easyJet expects to report a first half loss before tax of between £70 million and £90 million assuming normal levels of disruption compared to the £61 million loss reported in the first half of last year. Last year Easter fell on 31 March resulting in £25 million additional revenue in the first half of 2013. In this financial year Easter will fall in April.

Carolyn McCall, CEO, said:

"easyJet has made a good start to the year. We have delivered revenue per seat growth in the quarter against a challenging competitive environment and the tough comparison with the prior year. The performance in the quarter demonstrates our continued focus on cost, progress against our strategic priorities and easyJet's structural advantage in the European short-haul market against both the legacy and low-cost competition.

Our strategy of offering our customers low fares to great destinations with friendly service and a focus on cost control ensures that we can continue to deliver sustainable growth and returns for our shareholders."

easyJet upgraded by Investec
25th March 2014, 15:20

Investec has upgraded its recommendation on easyJet [LON:EZJ] to ‘buy’ from ‘hold’ after the company released a trading update and stated that it expects to deliver a first half performance ahead of previous guidance.

The broker put the guidance beat down to cost savings being realised ahead of schedule and solid but expected yield growth, with revenue per seat up by 1.5 per cent, despite the busy Easter period falling into the second half of the year.

Analysts have upped their price target slightly to 1,800 pence per share (previously 1,750 pence).

Separately, Credit Suisse repeated its bullish ‘outperform’ investment rating and increased its price target to 2,021 pence a share from 1,980 pence.

The broker said: “We continue to see EZJ as a multi-year value proposition, and reiterate our view expressed in our Ideas Engine note "Network quality presents margin opportunity" on 13 January 2014 that EZJ should be able to capitalise on attractive medium term volume and pricing opportunities.”

Meanwhile, Numis and Cantor Fitzgerald reaffirmed ‘add’ and ‘hold’ calls, respectively.

Cantor said: “Solid trading and lower losses guided, some investors might be disappointed that the revised guidance was not better with strong recent traffic data, poor UK weather and a healthy ski season.”

At 3:17pm: easyJet share price was up 67.5 pence at 1,699.5 pence.

Credit Suisse ups target on 'multi-year value proposition' easyJet
25 March 2014 10:56

Analysts at Credit Suisse have lifted their price target on shares of easyJet to 2,021p from 1,988p following today´s pre-close trading update and improved guidance for the first half of 2014 from the budget airline, while reiterating their 'outperform' recommendation on the shares.

Significantly, they point out how the stock is now trading on an enterprise value-to-operating profits ratio of 8.3 times and a price-to-earnings multiple of 14.6 times, both represent a discount to its main peer RyanAir despite easyJet's higher returns and cash flow generation. Hence, they believe easyJet should trade at a premium.

As a result of better pricing and lower cost inflation they now estimate that easyJet will post a smaller loss before tax for the first half of £56m, versus the £67m which they had previously been forecasting.

For the full year Credit Suisse raised their pre-tax profit estimate 2% to £576m and their price target by another 2% to 2,021p.

"We continue to see easyJet as a multi-year value proposition", the broker said, adding that the company should be able to capitalise on attractive medium term volume and pricing opportunities.

As of 11:53 shares of the firm were higher by 4.47% at 1,710p.

easyJet upgraded by Numis
31st March 2014, 14:47

Numis has upgraded its recommendation on easyJet [LON:EZJ] to an outright ‘buy’ (from ‘add’) believing the company could benefit further from the structural changes taking place within the European short-haul market.

The broker also reckons the low cost carrier could return at least £500 million, by way of special dividends, over the coming three years which would equate to around 130 pence per share.

Analysts have increased their price target to 2,100 pence per share from 1,900 pence.

Separately, Investec upgraded its recommendation on the airline carrier to ‘buy’ from ‘hold’, on Tuesday, after the company announced that it expects to deliver a first half performance ahead of previous guidance.

Meanwhile, Deutsche Bank repeated its ‘buy’ recommendation (price target upgraded to 1,935 pence a share from 1,560 pence) in a note to clients, on Wednesday.

Following the various changes of opinion since the last week’s update from easyJet, Broker Forecasts consensus data highlights that 67 per cent of brokers rate the shares as an ‘add’ or ‘buy’, 22 per cent as a ‘hold’ or ‘neutral’ and 11 per cent as a ‘reduce’ or ‘sell’.

EasyJet investors set for £500m windfall
Numis has upgraded EasyJet (EZJ.L) from ‘add’ to ‘buy’ as it highlighted that the budget airline could return around £500 million, or 130p per share, through special dividends over the next three years.

It increased its target price from £19 to £21, arguing EasyJet could benefit from structural changes to short-haul aviation in Europe. Yesterday EasyJet shares gained 7p to £17.18. They have risen nearly 12% this year.

One of these changes is the broadening of the European Union’s ‘Common Aviation Area’ through agreements struck with neighbouring countries. ‘In our opinion, this liberalisation will continue to offer opportunity for European low-cost carriers, including EasyJet, even though EasyJet’s core markets are already fully liberalised,’ said Numis analyst Wyn Ellis.

He added the company was also well poised to take further market share from ‘legacy’ [non-low-cost] airlines in its current markets.

‘Non-low-cost carriers account for 53% of the traffic at EasyJet’s top 20 airports, of which only 12% is estimated to be traffic connecting to long-haul flights; 41% is on point-to-point routes. In our opinion, this represents a major growth opportunity for EasyJet,’ he said.

Credit Suisse upbeat on easyJet after March traffic growth
04 April 2014 12:34

Credit Suisse has retained its 'outperform' recommendation on budget airline easyJet, saying that the company's March traffic statistics on Friday show good momentum and a creditable performance.

The company said the number of passengers in March rose by 4.8% to 5,107,676 compared to a year earlier. The load factor, the number of passengers to the number of seats available, increased to 91.5% from 90.5% in the same month of 2013.

The broker forecasts a £56m pre-tax loss for easyJet's first half, towards the lower end of guidance for a loss of £55-65m, "with March traffic seemingly supportive".

For the full year ending September 2014, the bank is looking for a pre-tax profit of £576m, up from £478m the previous year, with results helped by the timing of Easter which will be in the third quarter.

Credit Suisse said that easyJet trades at 16 times' prospective earnings, in line with sector peer Ryanair.

"It has closed a 10% valuation gap to Ryanair over the past two weeks yet having surpassed Ryanair returns/cash flow generation in 2013, we think it should trade at a premium.

"We continue to see easyJet as a multi-year value proposition, and re-iterate our view [...] that easyJet should be able to capitalise on attractive medium-term volume and pricing opportunities."

The bank kept its 2,021p target price for the stock, which was up 2.5% at 1,835p by 12:54 on Friday.

Half Yearly Report

Strategic Progress:

Drive demand, conversion and yields across Europe

· Total revenue per seat increased by 1.5% year on year on a constant currency basis, and by 2.6% per seat on a reported basis, to £54.80 driven, in part, by a number of digital and revenue management initiatives, increased average sector length and allocated seating.

· In the 12 months to 31 March 2014 easyJet carried 12 million business passengers for the first time.

· Average load factors increased by 0.4 percentage points to 89.0% whilst capacity grew by 3.6% to 31.1 million seats.

Maintain cost advantage

· Cost per seat excluding fuel grew by 0.5% on a constant currency basis and by 0.8% on a reported basis to £39.20. The planned year on year cost increases in maintenance and lease costs were offset by lower than expected levels of de-icing and disruption in the second quarter and by the early delivery of a number of easyJet lean initiatives.

· easyJet lean delivered £14 million of annualised savings in the six months to 31 March 2014.

Build strong number 1 and 2 network positions

· easyJet launched new bases in Naples, its third in Italy, and Hamburg, its second in Germany, bringing the total number of easyJet bases to twenty-four.

Disciplined use of capital

· In the six months to 31 March 2014, easyJet returned £308 million or 77.6 pence per share to shareholders through the payment of an ordinary dividend (at three times earnings cover) and a special dividend.

· easyJet ended the first half of the financial year with cash and money market deposits of £1,069 million, a decrease of £125 million against last year mainly driven by the special dividend payment. Net cash as at 31 March 2014 was £449 million compared to £433 million at 31 March 2013.

=====================

OH YES THEY ARE!!!

British low-cost airline easyJet reported a forecast-beating narrower seasonal first-half loss as it held down costs and said it was on track to continue to deliver sustainable growth and returns for shareholders.

The group posted a pretax loss of 53 million pounds ($89 million) in the six months to March 31, a 13 percent improvement on the same period last year, and ahead of its own guidance which was for a loss of between 55 million pounds and 65 million pounds.

The group, which traditionally runs at a loss during its winter first half when fewer customers fly, posted a stronger performance this year than last, despite the fact that unlike last year, this six month period did not include the benefit of the Easter holiday which fell in April in 2014.

easyJet in March upgraded its first-half results forecast by 25 percent, citing tight cost control, the popularity of its allocated seating programme and benign winter weather which meant fewer disruptions

easyJet says on track for more growth after H1 beat
LONDON Tue May 13, 2014 7:53am BST

(Reuters) - British low-cost airline easyJet said it was on track to continue to grow after reporting a forecast-beating narrower seasonal loss in the first-half on tight cost control and as it flew more business passengers.

easyJet said a "ruthless focus on cost" meant it was well-placed to compete in the second half of the year, despite its expectations for an intensifying battle against its rivals. The company forecast an increase in competitor capacity of around 3 percent this summer.

"There continue to be a number of attractive opportunities for easyJet to grow profitably in Europe and we look forward to making further progress in the second half of the year," Chief Executive Carolyn McCall said in a statement.

The group on Tuesday posted a pretax loss of 53 million pounds ($89 million) in the six months to March 31, a 13 percent improvement on the same period last year, and ahead of its own guidance for a loss of between 55 million and 65 million pounds.

The company, which traditionally runs at a loss during its winter first half when fewer customers fly, posted a stronger performance this year than last, despite the fact that unlike last year, this six month period did not include the benefit of the Easter holiday which fell in April in 2014.

Its focus on costs helped easyJet beat its expectations as benign winter weather meant fewer disruptions and lower de-icing costs and as it delivered 14 million pounds of annualised savings in the first half.

During the first half, easyJet said its strategy of luring more business passengers, who tend to spend more per flight, was working. Business passengers grew by 8.5 percent in the first half, ahead of overall passenger growth of 4 percent.

The company has stolen a march on bigger rival Ryanair by introducing allocated seating and allowing passengers to change flights in a bid to appeal to business travellers.

Ryanair, due to report its annual results later in May, has since followed suit, saying in March it was in talks about flying to more convenient airports, having already introduced allocated seating.

HARRYCAT - 13 May 2014 11:49 - 182 of 408

RBC note today:
To us, the key to easyJet’s H1 result of a PBT loss of £53m (£61m loss) vs. company’s £55–65m loss aspiration despite the adverse revenue impact from a later Easter. H1 saw revenue per seat lift 2.6% (1.5% constant currency), while cost per seat was up 1.9%, and ex Fuel cost per seat was up 0.8% (0.5% constant currency), thus reducing operating and pre tax losses. Unlike some peers, fuel costs continued to rise 8.2% on 6.8% ASK growth, which we think stores up a future reduction in fuels cost (per ASK) as underlying US$ kerosene costs remain in the mid-to-high 900s/tonne, but GBP has appreciated against the US$. Fuel and currency hedges have more minimal effects from 2015/16E onwards. Overall, incremental margin in H1 (reduction in op loss/growth in sales) was 7%.
H2 – focus of seat supply growth on the stronger seasonal demand summer: After 3.6% H1 seat growth for the half year to end March, 2014, summer (to end September 2014) seat growth is set to be 6.7%, as easyjet places supply into usually seasonally firmer summer markets. With an important UK presence, we think early signs of scope for improved UK consumer discretionary spending may help demand firm in the short term. However, 6.7% summer 14 seat growth is an acceleration of the 3% in summer 2013, and competitors are set to grow 3% this summer, vs. cutting seats by 1% last year
Consensus £570m PBT for 2013/14E unlikely to change: Last summer’s ~7% revenue per seat growth seems unlikely to re-occur this summer. The company sees low-single-digit gains in RPS this summer (as we think it is being cautious about soccer World Cup effects on demand). Thus BBG estimates that centre around cons median of £570m PBT may see higher-end projections drifting down to a tighter PBT range closer to the median £570m after today’s results.
Longer-term challenges: Longer-term, easyjet will need to ride out the challenge to leisure discretionary spending in the UK when interest rates (and then in time mortgage payments rise), although this may increase the investment earnings for its older/retired passengers, who have time to travel outside weekend peaks. In the higher yield business-like market (where easyjet grew 8.5% in H1), as Ryanair becomes more like easyjet’s offering, competitive threat could increase once Ryanair loses its reputational challenges with certain potential customers, although as legacies pull back overall LCC opportunities may still exist, provided that legacy ‘block and tackle’ does not become prevalent.
Our view – no upgrade trigger yet: easyJet shares trade at 14x YA PER vs. non EM global LCCs at ~12.5x but have middle rank performed vs. most of RBC’s European covered airlines lifting 13% YTD in absolute terms vs. 41% for AFKLM, 19% Lufthansa, 11% Ryanair, and -2% at IAG. We think lack of incremental profit upgrades has stymied progress. However, improved (Easter adjusted) Q2 revenue/seat growth suggests that the price outlook is positive for summer 2014, although next winter carries new challenges, which keeps us at Sector Perform."

french air strike
this was called off early this morning, i.e. 48 hours ahead of schedule, yet EZJ has dropped another 15p this morning on top of the thumping it has taken over the last 7/10 days

this looks a nonsense, not least because i'ld be surprised if EZJ had cancel many flights at all ...... certainly BA LHR/MRS was kept going with surprisingly little disruption throughout

my only caveat is that the chart looks pretty ugly

Chart.aspx?Provider=EODIntra&Code=EZJ&Si

HARRYCAT - 27 Jun 2014 13:56 - 204 of 408

I think both Easyjet & Ryanair have been hard hit by cancellations. The people that I know who were due to fly over the last few days have had their flights cancelled and told not to come back for two days. Considering the small margins that both of these carriers gain per flight, any disruption is bad news, imo. Good news however, that the french are back to work earlier than scheduled. I certainly know that many people are going to file compensation claims, so will be interesting to see what effect this has on quarterly figures.

Budget airline easyJet was the worst performer on the FTSE 100, off 4.5 percent, as BofA Merrill Lynch cut its rating on the stock to "underperform" from "neutral", with earnings headwinds likely to pressure stock price performance.

"We believe the consensus EPS upgrade story is over at easyJet, as negative yield momentum will cause confidence in the upgrade cycle to shatter," BofA ML analysts wrote in a note.

MARKET REPORT: Analysts at Bank of America clip EasyJet's wings and wipe more than £370m off value
PUBLISHED: 22:02, 30 June 2014 | UPDATED: 22:02, 30 June 2014
View

Profits warning ahoy! That was the message from Bank of America when assessing EasyJet yesterday – a call that wiped more than £370m off the airline’s value.
EasyJet shed 6.44 per cent, or 94p, while British Airways owner IAG also fell, losing 3.47 per cent.
In a searing analysis of flying conditions, analysts at BoA said the ‘lazy consensus’ around EasyJet’s performance ‘heads blindly’ into a ‘cliff’.

Expectations that the company will constantly upgrade its forecasts will be ‘shattered’, they warned.

‘The share price has already shown signs of wilting under Europe’s sweltering summer airline overcapacity problem,’ said analyst Mark Manduca, in a note the bank was desperate not to be seen by anyone but its clients.

But he added there was more turbulence to come, with the issue of too many planes in the crowded skies only getting worse as the year goes on.
The introduction of allocated seating – a move that wooed business passengers and saw EasyJet overtake rival Ryanair – has already paid its rewards, he added.
All this will lead to the company issuing a profits warning over its 2015 earnings, he predicted.

He currently expects pre-tax profits to fall by £170m in 2015, compared to market expectations that they will rise by £80m – a forecast he said was ‘egregious’. He said ‘the last remaining bulls will likely be shaken out of the shares’ when lower profits come into view.

At the same time he downgraded the share price by an eye-watering 36 per cent – from 1800p to 1150p. Shares closed at 1365p. Despite the caution, shareholders who boarded at the same time as chief executive Carolyn McCall – who incidentally celebrates the fourth anniversary of her tenure today – will not have been disappointed with the service over the period. Shares have soared to the tune of 260 per cent in four years.

Although the note didn’t mention British Airways operator IAG, shares fell sharply, finishing 13.3p worse off at 370.5p. Manduca and his team also upgraded prospects for Ryanair, which is listed in Dublin.
Michael O’Leary’s airline is ‘due some near-term relief’ after a string of profits warnings he said – but added that it would still suffer in the long run from a lack of exposure to ‘key European business airports’.

Q3 Interim Management Statement

A. HIGHLIGHTS:

easyJet performance in the quarter

· Revenue per seat grew by 2.7% at constant currency or by 1.7% on a reported basis to £62.47 per seat despite a less benign capacity environment and a significant increase in easyJet capacity at Gatwick. The revenue performance was driven by the movement of Easter into the third quarter of the financial year and continued digital, brand and revenue initiatives.

· easyJet's capacity grew 6.8% in the quarter, primarily driven by a 16% increase in capacity at Gatwick mainly due to the purchase of the Flybe slots and 7% growth at Rome Fiumicino.

· Total revenue grew by 8.6% to £1,240 million, passengers carried increased by 9.4% to 17.9 million, and the load factor increased by 2.2 percentage points to 90.4%.

· Cost per seat excluding fuel increased by 1.0% at constant currency or decreased by 1.3% on a reported basis, better than guidance issued in May. The increase, at constant currency, was driven by increased airport charges, primarily in Italy and planned year on year cost increases in maintenance and lease costs.

· Cash and money market deposits were £1,162 million and net cash was £603 million as at 30 June 2014 demonstrating easyJet's continued strong balance sheet.

A record 13 million seats on 79,000 flights to and from the UK have been put on sale by easyJet for the peak summer 2015 period.

Tickets for more than 22.5 million seats across the airline’s network during the peak summer schedule between June 1 and September 6 went on sale today (Wednesday).

The budget airline expects to carry more than 45 million passengers throughout the whole of next summer.

The carrier has bases across 11 UK airports and more than 700 routes on sale to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Russia – 370 of which include the UK.

Sample fares lead in at £26.99 from Newcastle to Alicante.

UK director Sophie Dekkers said: “We’re pleased to be putting our peak summer period on sale for our passengers today, allowing them to take advantage of our lowest fares to the sun, cities and beaches across Europe.

“With our record 700-plus routes on sale, passengers have more choice than ever on where to spend their summer break.

“EasyJet flies to popular summer sun destinations at high frequencies during the summer period because this allows travellers to depart on the day they prefer and choose the length of holiday to suit them.

“We expect the bucket and spade routes to Spain, Portugal and the Greek Islands to be as popular as ever, or for late summer sun, Turkey, Egypt and The Canaries will be in demand.”

Share price taken a hit today following on from the FLYB statement and adjustment in the balance sheet regarding the EU directive about compensation claims for delayed flights. I think I would rather have my flight delayed by an hour or two - it doesn't matter which airline I'm flying with - rather than have my safety compromised by a growing compensation culture which puts pressure on airlines and travel agents.

Final Results

Drive demand, conversion and yields across Europe

· Total revenue per seat increased by 1.2% on a reported basis, and by 1.9% on a constant currency basis to £63.31 in a higher capacity environment. The growth in revenue per seat was driven in part by a number of digital and revenue management initiatives and a continued focus on capital allocation. Second half revenue per seat on a constant currency basis grew by 1.9%.

· Seats flown grew by 5.1% to 71.5 million.

· Load factors increased by 1.3 percentage points to 90.6% and passenger numbers rose by 6.6% to 64.8 million.

Maintain cost advantage

· Cost per seat excluding fuel decreased by 1.2% on a reported basis but increased by 0.6% on a constant currency basis to £37.70 driven by increases in charges at regulated airports offset by the continued delivery of easyJet lean initiatives. Second half cost per seat on a constant currency basis increased by 0.7%.

· easyJet lean delivered sustainable savings of £32 million in the year of which £18 million were delivered in the second half.

· CFM selected to supply engines for future deliveries of current and new generation aircraft delivering one-off cost savings.

Build strong number one and two network positions
· New bases opened at Hamburg and Naples during the year and new bases announced for Amsterdam and Porto.

· easyJet started flying the former Flybe slots at London Gatwick on 30 March 2014.

· Options and purchase rights exercised over 35 A320 aircraft to take advantage of profitable growth opportunities.

Disciplined use of capital

· Return on capital employed grew by 3.1 percentage points to 20.5%.

· easyJet ended the financial year with £985 million of cash and money market deposits, a decrease of £252 million against the position at 30 September 2013 which reflects the continued cash generation of the business offset by the payment of a £133 million ordinary dividend and a special dividend of £175 million to shareholders in the year, pre-delivery payments for new aircraft and repayment of borrowings.

· The Board is recommending an increased ordinary dividend to shareholders of £180 million or 45.4 pence a share based on its enhanced ordinary dividend policy of paying out 40% of annual profit after tax.

goldfinger - 18 Nov 2014 09:02 - 264 of 408

"After the year-end the UK Supreme Court effectively upheld a Court of Appeal ruling in favour of paying EU261 compensation to passengers who experience a cancellation or a delay of more than 3 hours due to certain types of technical failure. easyJet operates a young and reliable fleet and fully complies with all applicable rulings relating to EU261."

Think Skinny will be your man for this.

midknight - 18 Nov 2014 10:49 - 268 of 408

If one is looking for income only, I would say there are better opportunities
elsewhere unless there is also a special divi as last year. However, capital growth
with income makes this relatively attractive as things stand imo, even though
the sp has more or less stagnated recently. For now, I think things are looking up.

If there is an eventual change at the top, things might change in the short run:

EZJ moves a lot on a regular basis, but todays drop (1682 to 1644) was not nearly as melodramatic as you choose to portray .... in fact, i dare say, though i haven't checked IAG or even FLYB, that the drop is partly attributable to the request that airlines should pass on some of their savings to passengers

HARRYCAT - 07 Jan 2015 21:29 - 292 of 408

I was thinking that airlines, parcel carriers, coach operators, hauliers, ferry operators etc should all be reporting Q2 and final profit figures above expectations due to much lower fuel costs.....but I suppose it depends on how much they have hedged. Can't help thinking though, that Firstgroup and Stagecoach must be reaping the rewards due to the fact that they have to buy at pump prices. Maybe the airlines aren't so fortunate? I do know that the ferry operators tend to hedge a certain amount of their bunker fuel price, so at mo they are the wrong side of the market price. Presumably airlines hedge a bigger percentage than most?

Interim Management Statement

A. HIGHLIGHTS:

Drive demand, conversion and yields across Europe

· Seats flown grew by 2.9% to 16.6 million. Passengers carried increased by 4.1% to 14.9 million, and the load factor increased by 1.0 percentage point to 89.7%.

· Total revenue grew by £34 million to £931 million and revenue per seat grew by 0.8% on a reported basis to £56.16 per seat or by 3.7% at constant currency. The growth in revenue per seat was driven by disciplined allocation of capital across the network, revenue management and digital initiatives and growth in business passenger revenue.

Maintain cost advantage

· Full year cost per seat is expected to be in line with the guidance given at the full year results and be up by 2% on a constant currency basis. As expected in the quarter cost per seat excluding fuel decreased by 0.2% on a reported basis and increased by 3.7% on a constant currency basis.

· The increase at constant currency was primarily driven by anticipated increases in charges at regulated airports, mainly in Germany and Italy, crew costs associated with building a resilient operation ahead of base openings, the phasing of marketing expenditure on the business traveller punctuality campaign and an increase in maintenance costs associated with the planned ageing of the fleet.

· Cost per seat including fuel decreased by 2.0% on a reported basis and increased by 1.6% on a constant currency basis.

Build strong number one and two network positions

· Continued to increase frequencies on routes, such as Geneva to London Gatwick, and connect existing network points, such as Amsterdam to Hamburg.

Disciplined use of capital

· Strong balance sheet with cash and money market deposits of £913 million as at 31 December 2014.

Outlook

With first half bookings in line with last year, easyJet expects to report a first half loss before tax of between £10 million and £30 million assuming normal levels of disruption compared to the £53 million loss reported in the first half of last year.

Commenting on the results, Carolyn McCall, easyJet Chief Executive said:

"easyJet has made a good start to the year by continuing to deliver its strategy of making travel easy and affordable for passengers. We enjoyed a strong October across the network - particularly on UK leisure flights to beach destinations and on French domestic routes where we continued to build passenger numbers after a busy September."

"We further strengthened our network in the quarter adding around 500,000 seats, the majority of which are from airports where easyJet has a number one or number two position. This combined with our new TV ads aimed at business travellers enabled easyJet to sell record numbers of seats to business travellers in the first quarter."

"easyJet is well positioned to continue to deliver returns and growth to shareholders."

Trading Update and Pre-Close Statement

easyJet expects to deliver a first half performance ahead of the guidance given in the 27 January 2015 trading statement primarily due to the movement of exchange rates in the second quarter.

· Revenue per seat growth at constant currency for the six months to 31 March 2015 is now expected to be around 2.5%1;
· Cost per seat at constant currency for the six months to 31 March 2015 is now expected to increase by up to 3.0%,1, 3 due to higher levels of de-icing and disruption costs in the second quarter;
· As a result cost per seat at constant currency for the full year is now expected to increase by up to 2.5%2, 3;
· Based on a Euro : Sterling exchange rate of 1.3574 and a US Dollar : Sterling exchange rate of 1.4917 it is now expected that exchange rate movements are likely to have around a £20 million favourable impact in the six months to 31 March 20151 primarily due to the recent weakening of the Euro against Sterling;
· Using the same exchange rates, the first half favourable impact will reverse in the second half and it is expected that exchange rate movements are likely to have around a £40 million adverse impact in the second half. This will result in a £20 million adverse impact for the 12 months to 30 September 20152;
· It is expected that easyJet's unit fuel bill for the six months to 31 March 20151 will be around £35 million favourable and for the 12 months to 30 September 20152 it is estimated that easyJet's unit fuel bill4 is likely to be between £90 million and £120 million6 favourable.

easyJet lifts guidance

StockMarketWire.com

Low-cost airline easyJet has increased its profit before tax guidance for the year to 30 September to £675m-£700m from £620m-£660m. The load factor for August was 94.4%, a new record at easyJet for any month.

Passenger numbers for the month were 7.06 million, which is also a record for the Group and is the second successive month of over 7 million passengers. easyJet has also seen stronger than expected unit revenue performance for August and in its outlook for September, supported by successful ongoing digital and revenue initiatives, capacity growth across easyJet's leading shorthaul network of around 6% and with particular strength on UK beach routes.

This strong revenue performance has more than offset the significant cost headwinds that the business has faced this year, with greater-than-expected disruption across the network particularly in April, the impact of the two fires at Rome Fiumicino airport, the one-off £8 million settlement with Eurocontrol and costs associated with higher load factors. Fuel and currency exchange rate movements remain broadly within previously communicated ranges1. Consequently full year profit before tax guidance is now expected to be in a range of £675 million to £700 million for the year to 30 September 2015, from £620 million to £660 million as previously guided.

Chief executive Carolyn McCall said: "These figures demonstrate the strength of easyJet - with its strong customer focus and its unique and winning combination of the best route network connecting Europe's primary airports, with great value fares, friendly service and industry leading digital innovations. "This platform meant that easyJet was best placed to maximise the strong late summer demand from UK passengers to get away to beach and city destinations across Europe and will enable the airline to set new records for full year revenue and profit."

On a rolling 12 month basis, the airline carried 68,629,825 passengers - 6.0% up. The load factor was 91.55 - up from 90.6%.

easyJet's full year profit before tax guidance continues to be within a range of £675 million to £700 million for the year to 30 September 2015, as previously guided in the trading update released on 3 September 2015.

Morgan Stanley comment:
"We estimate EZJ’s 1H16 building blocks, assuming 1.5% reduction as a proxy for the ‘slight decline’ unit revenue guidance, could imply 1H PBT of around last year’s £7m level assuming currencies stay constant. This includes ~£75m of fuel price benefit. No consensus is available for 1H16, but FY expectation for FY16 is c£740m, growth of 7.8% Y/Y. We are 8% above consensus at £800m implying a FY16 PE of 10.3x. The company notes they are comfortable with the FY16 PBT consensus levels.

Initial guidance into 1H16 in line with our expectation – but cost inflation offsets solid revenue per seat outlook. 1H16 seat growth of ~8% Y/Y and 7% on a FY basis. We currently expect 8.4% in 1H16 (based on OAG schedules) and 6.0% for the FY, implying 6.2% in 2H. Constant currency rev per seat is guided “to slightly decline” for 1H16 against a reported (including currency) comp of +0.2%. Applying this guidance would imply a 2H rev / seat decline of c3.3% (against reported comp of -2.7%) to maintain our FY -2.6% estimate. Cost per seat ex fuel at constant currency is guided at +2% in FY, with the increase weighted to the 1H16 to account for Egypt and Paris issues. We assume a 0.4% reported decline in 2016e.

- FY16 unit fuel in jet fuel range of $450 to $550m/tonnes (spot is at $437m/tonne) is guided at £140 to £160m favourable impacts. FX at spot (1.522 GBP/USD, 1.4106 GBP/EUR) is guided at 1H £15 adverse movement and FY £40m adverse movement.
- An ordinary dividend of £219m declared at 40% payout. We had assumed a special dividend of £175m (44p /sh) in an effort of balance sheet optimisation, instead, the group ends the year with net cash of £435m.
- 4Q15 run rates on yield flat on a reported basis. FY15 PBT was delivered at £686m, at mid point of guidance of £675-700m, and versus our £701m estimate.
- Egypt repatriation costs and impact on Egypt forward bookings are included in the cost guidance but not separately quantified. Our analysis of OAG seat data indicates Egypt accounts for 0.8% of winter seat schedule, North Africa as a whole is 2.7%; and Paris is 11.3% with France being 14.7%."

The Sharm el-Sheikh disaster and the Paris attacks have hit EasyJet's revenue for the three months to 31 December.
The FTSE 100 airline said in a trading statement on Tuesday that the tragic events resulted in lower demand and yield in November and December, offsetting strong revenue per seat performance in October. As a result, revenue per seat was down 3.7% at constant currency, while total revenue was down 0.1% to £930m.

Currency turbulence sent low-cost carrier easyJet descending into the black in the six months to 31 March, reporting a loss before tax of £24m against a £7m profit a year earlier. The FTSE 100 firm made a constant-currency profit before tax of £5m as total revenue grew 0.3% to £1.771bn from £1.767bn. "We are confident that over the full year we will again grow passenger numbers, revenue and profit," said chief executive Carolyn McCall.

easyJet has warned that air traffic control strikes in France, runway congestion, the fall in demand after the Egyptair tragedy and additional costs following the Brexit vote will hit the group's figures.

easyJet says the operating environment for all European airlines in May and June has been extremely challenging.

easyJet says it has experienced 1,061 cancellations in the third quarter due to a significant number of disruption events, including the impact of continued strike action by French air traffic controllers, runway and congestion issues at Gatwick airport, severe weather and the knock-on cancellations across the easyJet network.

As a result, in June alone there have been over 700 cancellations to date, with strikes and weather conditions accounting for most of these and over 300 flights cancelled in the last seven days.

In June 2015 there were 487 cancellations, of which 420 related to the Fiumicino fire and thus were largely pre-planned. These incidents, together with the Egyptair tragedy, resulted in some drop off in consumer demand leading to lower yield and have impacted third quarter Profit before Tax by approximately £28 million and have had a negative impact on third quarter revenue per seat of c.1.6ppts.

This means that revenue per seat at constant currency in the third quarter will fall by around 8.6%, compared to the c.7% decrease guided at the half year results, as disrupted passengers were allocated seats that normally would have been sold close to departure for a higher yield. Following the outcome of the EU Referendum, we also anticipate that additional economic and consumer uncertainty is likely this summer and as a consequence it is expected that revenue per seat at constant currency in the second half will now be down by at least a mid-single digit percentage compared to the second half of 2015.

In addition, recent movements in fuel prices and exchange rates are now expected to add around £25 million of additional cost in the year to that guided at the half year results. In response, easyJet is continuing its efforts to drive ex fuel cost savings. easyJet's unique network, digital leadership, cost advantage and financial strength will ensure it continues to deliver its strategy and continue to be a structural winner.

Still getting trounced despite numbers up.

easyJet passenger figures up

StockMarketWire.com

Low-cost airline easyJet carried 6,937,601 passengers in June - 5.8% up on a year ago. The load factor was 94.1% - up from 92.7% last time.

On a rolling 12-month basis, the airline carried 71,872,886 passengers -up 7.1% - while the load factor rose to 91.5% from 91.2%.

There were 852 cancellations for the month which compares to 487 for June 2015.

Not good results ,terrorist attacks hurting this ..

easyJet revenue down

StockMarketWire.com

easyJet (EZJ) said passengers carried increased by 5.8% to 20.2 million, driven by an increase in capacity of 5.5% to 21.9 million seats and load factor increasing by 0.3 percentage points to 92%.

Total revenue per seat decreased by 8.3% at constant currency or by 7.7% on a reported basis to £54.54 per seat.

Total revenue in the quarter decreased by 2.6% to £1,196 million, as increased seat capacity was offset by the impact on yield of overall market capacity and cancellations as a result of significant external events.

Commercial and operational performance during the quarter was impacted by the Brussels attack and Egyptair tragedy, significant disruption due to air traffic control strikes and congestion, runway closures at Gatwick airport and severe weather leading to 1,221 cancellations.

Ongoing enhancements to our customer proposition and other revenue initiatives helped to stimulate bookings, partly compensating for the impact of disruption and other external factors.

Strong cost control as cost per seat including fuel improved by 3.8% at constant currency, due to low fuel prices and strong underlying cost focus.

easyJet's cost per seat excluding fuel at constant currency was broadly flat during the quarter. This was despite £20 million of disruption cost during the quarter.

Cash and money market deposits were £1,120 million and net cash was £368 million as at 30 June 2016.

easyJet chief executive Carolyn McCall said: "The economic and operating environment has been difficult in the third quarter due to a number of factors including air traffic control strikes and other industrial action, runway closures at London Gatwick and severe weather.

"These factors combined with industry capacity growth in short haul continue to have an impact on industry yields at a peak time of year.

"More recently currency volatility as a result of the UK's referendum decision to leave the EU as well as the recent events in Turkey and Nice continue to impact consumer confidence.

"Despite this, easyJet carried more passengers and achieved higher load factors during the third quarter as easyJet's brand continued to resonate strongly across Europe.

"easyJet is strongly controlling costs and driving continued improvement in operational and customer delivery.

"We are focussed on the opportunities that are inevitable from a tougher environment.

"The easyJet business model remains robust, with a strong cash position, solid balance sheet and a flexible fleet plan.

"The easyJet team is confident in its ability to navigate the period ahead and drive long term advantage.

EasyJet has swooped to acquire part of the collapsed Air Berlin's operations in Berlin's busiest airport for €40m. The budget airline has agreed to acquire leases for up to 25 Airbus A320 aeroplanes and offer jobs to each plane's flying crews and taking over other assets including much-coveted runway slots.

Oil price doing the damage here?

robinhood - 26 Sep 2018 14:18 - 396 of 408

Brexit-weak £- higher oil prices of which only about 60% hedged. (bye bye as not for me this one)
On to hedging- I recently retired but have been in an international Jet fuel ,DPK and UK kero trading and broking job for approx 30 years and am dumbfounded when and if these airlines are ever going to employ some decent oil traders rather filling vacancies with a few inexperienced graduates? Answer : probably not, but do not ask me why considering the impact Jet fuel prices have on profitability

whacked by 5% this morning, though of course the markets remain in a pretty bearish mood anyway

however, with the demise of cobalt and the imminent collapse of flybe, one would have thought this to be good news for the stronger players, and especially those in this budget market

EasyJet updated the market on its trading for the quarter ended 31 December on Tuesday, saying it delivered a "good performance", with robust customer demand driving passenger and ancillary revenue, which was in line with expectations. The FTSE 100 low-cost airline said total revenue in the first quarter increased by 13.7% to £1.296bn, with passenger revenue rising by 12.2% to £1.025bn and ancillary revenue improving 19.9% to £271m. Positive revenue performance was offset, as the board expected, by the impact from the prior year's one-off revenue benefits, the dilutive impact of flying at Berlin Tegel, and new accounting standards delaying the recognition of revenue.
