Belgravium Technologies - STRONG BUY

Companies: BVM

27/07/2007

Unicorn, New Star and AXA Framlington are all backers of this small-cap designer and maker of data capture systems used in the logistics, oil & petrochemical, airline and railway sectors, which has a reassuring spread of clients ranging from Heinz and Calor to Wincanton. 2005 acquisition Touchstar and January 2006 purchase Novo have broadened the business and greatly improved its growth prospects.

March saw cautiously optimistic executive chairman John Kembery unveil positive numbers for 2006 showing 88% PBT growth to 1.84m on turnover more than doubled to 10.9m, with Touchstar delivering much of the growth. These acquisitions strengthened Belgraviums abilities in the design of hardware and software for more uses than ever before and the sales pipeline of all three operating divisions (Touchstar, Novo and the core Belgravium business) have been reinvigorated with cross-selling benefits coming through.

At the recent AGM, a strong first quarter of 2007 was highlighted and a 500,000 Novo order to supply Virgin Atlantic with in-flight data capture technology is just one of a number of contract highlights, with the core Belgravium logistics business reportedly enjoying healthy demand.

For the calendar year, the market expects adjusted pre-tax profits progression from 1.8m to 2.3m, sending earnings north from 1.3p to 1.6p ahead of a 2.7m haul from 12.9m sales next year capturing 1.8p of earnings per share. Trading on ludicrously low forward earnings multiples of 9.4 and 8.3, considering its cash generative characteristics and strong yield appeal (5% on 2008 dividend forecasts), we believe this business is significantly undervalued.

Positive outlook for Belgravium Technologies

26 July 2007

Positive outlook for leading manufacturer of mobile computers, Belgravium Technologies

The reported upturn in Belgravium Technologies incoming order rate, which saw excellent figures posted for 2006, sees no sign of abating. Substantial projects have been secured across all three operating divisions (Belgravium Ltd, TouchStar Technologies Ltd & Novo IVC) from a significant number of prominent UK organizations. For Belgravium Ltd some of the more significant project acquisitions are listed below;

Grattan

In March Belgravium announced that it had secured a substantial order for in excess of 450 of its Atlanta 8000 series Hand Held terminals from Grattan Plc for the Parcelnet arm of the organisation. The deal was thought to be one of the largest for rugged mobile computers within recent history and was won against strong competition from rival US and European manufacturers. As a measure of their confidence in the Atlanta product, Grattan have recently ordered a further 100 units.

Parcelnet was formed in 2000 with the merger of two of the country's best known home shopping companies, Freemans and Grattan, and their two home delivery networks, Speedlink and Direct Line. Grattan had extensive experience of utilising mobile computing technology and were well aware of the requirement for terminals to be rugged enough to survive harsh environments. Belgravium had been a key supplier of mobile computers to Grattan since the late 1980s and had acquired a solid reputation for excellent product, technical service and general support, although this did not exempt Belgravium equipment from the vigorous technical evaluation process undertaken by the Grattan project team ! The Atlanta rugged CE.NET terminal with colour screen was chosen for its excellent ergonomics, small footprint, light weight and balance.

Cummins Power

With distributors in over 130 countries worldwide and annual sales which exceed $1.2 billion, Cummins Power Generation continues to dominate the world-wide power systems business.

Cummins Power Generation is a division of Cummins Inc, global leaders in the manufacture of diesel engines over 200hp. The unique expertise of Cummins Power itself lies within the design and manufacture of power generation equipment offering solutions to retail, manufacturing, health and utility industries. Their main philosophy focuses on meeting their customers exact requirements by providing the resources and capabilities to provide the best engineering solution for ultimate peace of mind.

Cummins belief in its expert system design, product reliability and worldwide customer support is supported by its continual growth in geographical presence. 2006 saw the opening of another warehouse operation in Ramsgate, Kent and the company successfully enhanced their new operation by implementing a new wireless RF data capture system. Cummins originally chose Belgraviums Atlanta 8000 Series and the truck mountable Toronto 9000 Series. These units are now well-proven within the Ramsgate facility, so much so that Cummins have just placed an order for a significant further quantity of Belgravium equipment.

Associated British Ports ( ABP)

ABP is the UKs leading ports business, providing innovative and high-quality port facilities and services to shippers and cargo owners.

In addition to ports located all around the UK, ABP has a number of businesses offering specialist services, including a value-added services division, ABP Connect. ABP Connect adds value to supply-chain management through its warehousing, distribution, transportation and logistics services throughout the UK. Its USA-based sister company, AMPORTS, provides port-located vehicle-processing services. Its UK subsidiary offers similar vehicle processing activities with the addition of stevedoring, freight forwarding, and vehicle and container storage services.

Belgravium have wide experience of supplying systems to Port operators and ABP had no hesitation in selecting the company to provide its wireless terminals and infrastructure for its Hams Hall (Birmingham) facility. ABP have selected Monaco vehicle terminals and Geneva hand-helds running under a Wi-Fi wireless infrastructure.

Commenting on an excellent half year, Mark Hardy (Group Managing Director, Belgravium Technologies) stated : What is really encouraging for me is that were seeing a strong sales pipeline across all three operating divisions. Each division operates within an entirely separate market sector. TouchStar focus on solutions for the fuel delivery market, whilst Novo supply airline point of sales systems. Belgravium Ltd concentrate on the manufacture and supply of real-time mobile computing systems for the logistics sector. This sector experienced a marked slowdown for a number of years but 2006 saw strong resurgence and this looks set to continue. With an expanding product portfolio, Belgravium Ltd are well positioned to exploit this upturn.

Rapid adoption of RFID in manufacturing and logistics

RFID is mainly a card business today and more is spent on RFID in China than in any other country. However, that hides the fact that the Manufacturing and Logistics sectors are rapidly adopting RFID for security, safety, efficiency and other reasons, writes Peter Harrop of IDTechEx.

The IDTechEx RFID Knowledgebase of 2959 RFID projects in 98 countries reveals that Manufacturing and Logistics have risen to become 17.2% of all projects, as shown below. Indeed in China it is already 26.3% of all projects as befits China's dominance of manufacturing for the world.

The adoption of RFID in the Manufacturing and Logistics sector is taking many new forms as it becomes used for everything from theft and counterfeit prevention to increasing sales by reducing stockouts and managing standing assets more efficiently and controlling access to secure areas. For example, Ubiquitous Sensor Networks with fault tolerant ZigBee networking are being trialled for asset management. Dr Chang-Hun Lee of the National Information Society Agency, Korea says, "Ubiquitous Sensor Networks will be a huge RFID market in a few years." Then there is the form of active RFID known as Real Time Locating Systems (RTLS.)

Suppliers of RFID to the Manufacturing and Logistics sectors are prospering. For example, Belgravium in the UK, offering RFID for management of standing assets and supply chains, in partnership with Ubisense and Sirit, grew sales 101% last year and achieved profits up 88% at $1.844 million, an impressive 16.9% of sales. In Lockheed Martin in the USA, we estimate that Savi Technology continues to make satisfactory profits as it passes $200 million in gross sales value, up about threefold in three years. Savi uses RFID to manage standing assets and supply chains.......................................................................................

Belgravium launch the 'The Mobile Data Portal'

10 August 2007

Modern businesses feed upon mission-critical data. Ideally this data is delivered in real-time or near real-time from wherever the employee is situated. The world is moving towards mobile devices which employees can carry easily and which give them a huge degree of independence, yet let their company know of their whereabouts and activities. The net result is that employees and clients are happier and key corporate data reaches the organisation in a timely manner, providing significant competitive advantage. Easier said than done? Not if you utilise The Mobile Data Portal from Belgravium.

Mobile computing devices find a use in almost every walk of life, whether it be for stock control within a large warehouse, providing mobility of patient data in a hospital, enabling field service engineers to better fault-find and order replacement parts.and countless other applications. Public and private sector organizations generally recognize the value of equipping their employees with mobile devices that can directly improve productivity, the difficulty often comes in connecting the data captured remotely with the organizations key business-driver software packages at the back-end. These back-end software packages are often highly complex and powerful systems such as ERP, CRM, WMS and Service Management and represent a significant capital investment.

To ensure 100% utilization of the softwares functionality, when all employees are in a fixed location, can be challenge enough. Adding the complexity of mobile working and remote communication can be a nightmare but often this is a necessary business requirement. Take the example of a warehouse operation. Real-time radio technology is now commonplace within a modern warehouse, allowing total visibility of goods throughout all key activities from goods-in through to dispatch. Its with dispatch that the problems start. Often the goods are loaded onto the vehicle and then real-time visibility is lost. The commercial consequences can be significant. Late delivery can be catastrophic to the next element in the supply chain and, ultimately, customers will be dissatisfied. Moreover, in the modern business World there is an expectation from customers that a producer should be able to provide total traceability throughout the manufacturing and supply chain.

Often it can appear that the technical challenges to providing total visibility are almost insurmountable, as if an impenetrable solid wall has been placed between the mobile worker and the back-end system located at corporate HQ. The aim of the Belgravium Mobile Data Portal is simple. Our middleware product will provide you with universal data connectivity and transparency , whatever your back-end system, whatever your core operating platform, whatever your communication medium, whatever your development tools, whatever your front-end data capture devicewhatever anything !

The manner in which we achieve such comprehensive and total connectivity is, in reality, highly complex and based directly upon our decades of acquired experience in the data capture sector. Many man years of development work have gone into the creation of The Mobile Data Portal. For our customers, however, the process is far from painful. Obviously, we will need to consult closely with you to determine your overall business objective and the specifics of the data input / output that you require but thereafter its over to us. We will use The Mobile Data Portal to provide you with a turnkey system that meets your data flow requirement exactly.

So, what is The Mobile Data Portal ?

Front-End application software this can be literally any application. It may be an existing application but, if it doesnt already exist, Belgravium or an authorised partner can supply or develop it. A huge suite of existing software applications is already available, including packages for fuel delivery, van sales, voice-controlled stock control, mobile point of sale, vehicle tracking , maintenance and inspection..and a whole lot more.

Front-end mobile data capture devices the application software can reside on any form of mobile device from a fixed in-cab unit, through to a rugged PDA and even a mobile phone. Dependent upon form factor, these devices can invariably be equipped with a range of data capture utilities including (but not limited to) bar code scanners, RFID readers, cameras & imagers, voice input, GPS transceivers etc. All of these types of devices are manufactured by Belgravium, which provides a further level of reassurance.

Communication Highway these days there are a multitude of methods for point-to-point connection of mobile devices to a central fixed facility (or for communication between the devices themselves). Most offer true real-time performance. These include GPRS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for real-time connectivity and physical connectivity via such as USB, Ethernet and RS232.

Transport and Database Layer this is where we have to get a little technical. We will, via database mapping, take the appropriate data from your back-end system and place it on to a, platform-independent, SQL server. This server can operate under any platform that you, the client, chooses be it Windows, Linux, Unix or AS400. Using industry standard development tools, such as PHP, VXML and Ajax, Belgravium have developed a suite of intelligent connectivity applications that allow seamless connection between the SQL server and the remote mobile data capture devices, via whatever method of transmission is adopted within the communication highway. These applications are, in themselves, based upon a range of different server technologies including web, voice and batch platforms.

Back-End Business-Driver Software at the heart of most modern businesses there is invariably a software package, or suite of packages, that are governing key commercial processes and functions. The exact nature of software adopted obviously varies according to the size of the organization and their business sector. Typical business-driver software includes ERP, Financial Management, Warehouse Management, Service Management, Customer Relations Management etc. The open systems nature of SQL ensures easy and rapid two-way connection between the back-end software and the dedicated SQL server and ultimately (via the connectivity applications) two-way connectivity between back-end software and front-end mobile devices. In essence, thats the critical component. If youre not an IT practitioner then ignore the bits in the middle, or ask your IT team to validate that our methodology is sound ! Weve got decades of experience in connecting disparate IT systems and platforms to mobile devices and we know our Mobile Data Portal product works.

Virgin Atlantics return route to Novos POS technology

07 August 2007

Virgin Atlantics requirements for onboard Duty Free and POS solutions have, over the years, been met by varying concessionaires, only to arrive back, this year, at Novo Ivcs Software and Hardware offering, through South African concessionaire Tourvest Duty Free.

David OCallaghan Tourvest Duty Free Crew Liaison Manager for Virgin Atlantic said:
The Novo Ivc team were able to develop a bespoke software application to meet our customers requirements as well as interfacing with Tourvest Duty Frees existing back office systems. They were always responsive to our requests and regularly went the extra mile to respond to, and meet, our tight deadlines.

TDF first chose to use the Novo system on Kenyan Airlines back in 2000 and since have implemented their world leading solution across South African Airways, Air Namibia, and now Virgin Atlantic.

Tourvest Duty Free CEO Ian Hay said:
Upon taking the decision to automate our onboard operations globally so that we could offer maximum efficiency to our clients, we researched our potential suppliers extensively and embarked on a tender process which was exceptionally thorough in order to make sure that our detailed requirements were met. At the end of this process we concluded that Novo Ivc were best equipped in terms of technology, attitude and expertise to partner us moving forward.

Virgin Atlantic is one of the worlds leading airlines. Hugely popular, Virgin Atlantic has won top business, consumer and trade awards from around the world. The airline has pioneered a range of innovations setting new standards of service. Despite Virgin Atlantics growth the service still remains customer driven with an emphasis on value for money, quality, fun and innovation.

In the airline sector, Novo Ivc customers were the first to use computers for in-flight retail, and the first to utilise infra-red communication technology on-board and the first to use computers for pre-ordering, pioneered by Virgin Atlantic in 1996.

2007 saw the implementation of Novos POS solution across all Virgin Atlantics fleet, with 580 devices rolled out in three phases.

Tourvest Duty Free Crew Liaison Manager for Virgin Atlantic David O Callaghan said:
The on time implementation of the Falcon units across the Virgin Atlantic fleet was a huge success, due in no small part to the expertise, professionalism, reliability and flexibility of all at Novo.

ENDS.

Siemens and Belgravium team-up for flexible and innovative financial solutions

London, 3 September 2007

Partnership enables more effective and efficient management of investments

Siemens Financial Services (Siemens), a leading provider of asset-finance solutions in the UK, has announced its partnership with Belgravium Ltd., leading manufacturers of ruggedized mobile data capture devices. Through its Master Lease solution, Siemens and Belgravium will help companies to streamline the process of approving subleases as and when commissioned.

Their partnership will enable potential and existing users of mobile data capture devices to manage their investments more capably and more effectively. The Master Lease covers all individual leasing requirements operating under a master set of terms and conditions agreed by the client, the lease is used to schedule staged installments. Thanks to its widespread applicability, the Master Lease is ideal for multiple site instal-lations, or customers who intend to make frequent orders, says Mark Hardy, Managing Director, Belgravium. Our partnership with Siemens will allow us to really focus on de-veloping our finance business, offering flexible finance solutions that enable potential customers to purchase better-fit, higher-specification equipment.

Clients who lease their mobile data capture solution through the new Belgravium and Siemens partnership will be able to realize the significant monetary benefits against the cash-purchase alternatives. Hardware, software, installation, training, and maintenance can all be included in one single finance agreement; helping to consolidate the entire cost of the financed solution, and spreading the cost over the life of the investments.

The Master Lease financial solution also allows smaller leases to be added to the mas-ter set of terms and conditions, providing the flexibility for inevitable changes to clients businesses. All additional leases have the ability to run co-terminus, and so are all able to finish on the same date.

Rod Tonna-Barthet, Sales Director, Siemens Financial Services, comments: Bel-gravium are a very successful company and are growing at a tremendous pace. Belgravium on the prowl
Companies: BVM
05/09/2007

Data capture specialist Belgravium Technologies is eyeing new acquisitions after raising interim pre-tax profits 41 per cent to 1.1 million.

AIM-quoted Belgravium, which has carved out a role in supplying and maintaining efficiency-enhancing and cost-saving data capture systems for warehousing, distribution and petrochemical delivery, increased turnover five per cent to 5.2 million in the first half of the year. The company, which is working to increase the more profitable software licensing part of its business, has been integrating major recent acquisitions and evaluating new areas of expansion, such as community transport and defence.

According to chairman John Kembery, Belgravium, which increased pre-tax profits 88 per cent to 1.8 million last year, expects to enjoy a very profitable second half-year. However, he warns that current uncertainty in financial markets might delay some impending contract awards.

Any new bids would be for cash, he stresses. At 13.75p, down 2.3p today, Belgravium shares have interesting medium- to long-term potential.

Today's sp fall once again proves the old addage buy on the rumour sell on the news!!

hangon - 18 Jul 2008 14:39 - 37 of 37

No interst 2008?
Well FWIW, the sp is down to a few pennies, = overall Market gloom, which makes me think this "might" soon become a good Buy. I note that earlier this month two directors bought collectively 27k-worth - that's far below my "interest-level" of 50k each!
So I suspect this is them saying: "All is well enough, but not that good...."
- IMHO -
I shall wait a bit longer. Anyone know their Cash position, Share-buybacks ( Grr!), etc.

Any opinions from long-term holders, perhaps?

EDIT, (22Dec08)-
?Maybe something in 2009 - currently abt 2.75p to buy.
EDIT-(1July09), down 10% after some improvement in Market generally, buy=3.5p
EDIT-(March2010)- Looking much the same a year-on...business does not need fancy tech; with zero orders.
