Think it would be nice if everyone could be helpful, advise geriatrics ha! and be in the human race. May I add I haven't got a spread sheet (hope that makes you laugh), I just have a very untidy filing system - that says a lot about me don't you think? 3 monkies - sorry to see this did not get to the level you need today dudess, i know what its like to buy in too high then effectively be stuck or take a hit - not that often nowadays thankfully - but one of the last times was a year or so ago with strangley pyc (& ntog but that spiked nicely in the end!) pyc was a dog for me for a while - locked into the darn share till one day - a spike!! i got out immediately at just under break even and it tanked again that day to a similar low level it started at - i am saying this really to say if you do end up locked in just sit tight if you can afford to - the guys on here are correct and i stated it myself on oxb oxford bio that one of the reasons i dont normally bother with pharmas is that they are darn slow to come to market - pym is another i messed up on pharma wise - in the end after being locked in they did a fund raising at 10p i seemed to remember and that was a huge help to get me out - sar i honestly believe have a very good prospect as do many medical boffins - however can take time to be approved - BUT each step nearer to this will increase the SP large - try and sit tight - avg down - if you did that may want to wait i feel it might be south more than north here tomorrow but i might be completely wrong!!! good buys right now otc, sres, rgm, rrr, rrl, and many others others but may take some weeks for some to go north again as news flows in - and if you want a gamble - jjb, 888, rem, opm, vmp & others very high risk though imo
sar not a bad share - but timing of the essence
have a good evening and i hope for a better day for you tomorrow

he Company announces that, following investor demand, it has conditionally

50,000,000 new ordinary shares of 0.025p each in the capital of the Company (the
"Placing Shares") at 1p per share, representing a 40 per cent. discount to the
closing market price of 1.65 pence on 8 February 2011, the price which formed
the basis for the Board's decision to undertake the placing. The Placing Shares
have been issued to Xcap Securities plc, on behalf of its clients.
Following the results of the recent study that was announced on 7 February 2011
Sareum intends to use the proceeds of the placing to accelerate the advancement
of the Aurora+FLT3 Kinase leukaemia drug discovery programme and for working

Sareum report positive tests on cancer drugs
StockMarketWire.com
Sareum, the specialist cancer drug discovery business, has announced positive results from pre-clinical in-vivo efficacy studies from their joint research collaboration with Cancer Research Technology and The Institute of Cancer Research.
A recent colon cancer pre-clinical model study carried out demonstrates that the combination of a collaboration Chk1 inhibitor, dosed via the oral route, in combination with a chemotherapeutic, gemcitabine, demonstrates a greater than two-fold reduction in cancer growth rate compared to treatment with the same dose of gemcitabine without the Chk1 inhibitor.
Sareum's CEO, Dr Tim Mitchell, commented: "These are exciting advances, demonstrating efficacy of our Chk1 compounds in several cancer models. Studies on additional models are on-going. We believe the results from the recently conducted studies will significantly enhance the licencing package and assist the collaboration in selecting the best compound for development into a clinical trials candidate".

Drug group Sareum soars on cancer inhibitor news
Sareum, an Aim-listed drug discovery company, has more than doubled after positive results from a pre-clinical trial of its cancer treatment.
The company's Chk1 inhibitor, when combined with chemotherapeutic drugs, showed a more than two fold reduction in cancer growth rates, compared to using the chemotherapeutic alone. The cancer growth inhibitor was developed in collaboration with Cancer Research Technology and the Institute of Cancer Research. Sareum chief executive Tim Mitchell said the studies demonstrated the efficacy of its compounds in several cancer models, and trials on other models were continuing. These are still early stages - there is no licensing agreement as yet for example - but Mitchell said:
We believe the results from the recently conducted studies will significantly enhance the licensing package and assist the collaboration in selecting the best compound for development into a clinical trials candidate.
Early stage or not, the market likes the latest developments, and Sareum's shares have jumped 1.34p to 2.39p.

MARKET REPORT by GEOFF FOSTER:
Cancer drug discovery company Sareum was flat at 2.38p after revealing that its cancer growth inhibitor therapy had shown positive results in pre-clinical trials. Apparently, when its inhibitor was combined with chemotherapeutic drugs it had led to a greater reduction in the growth rate of colon cancer than did the drugs alone.

I like this post from another bb.... Opinion: Strong Buy
Price: 2.38
My Views on Sareum..in a nutshellToday 02:27
(a) It is currently oversold after spike in mid Feb and the market cap is still low at 28-32 million ...say compared to Phytopharm with a single 43% Phase 2 cure for Parkinsons and capitalised at a couple of million more
(b) The trial results are exceptional - 1 in 100 potentially successful drugs fails to get to pre-clinicals...the fallout for Phase 1-3 is statistically less and usually the pre-clinical gives a hint of failure eg 20% efficicacy..here we have a PRE CLINICAL 100% cure, see (f) for the reason why... which is the real reason for us all to stay invested
(c) Cancer cures is a potentially multibillion market
Now for the biggies
(d) despite the buzz on here probably no more than 30,000 people in a world of 7 billion are FULLY aware of the signifigance of their methodology and the outcome of the trials.. as the news spreads the investment will increase dramatically
(e) The company has no major institutional holders...with its sudden burst in size all the AIM / small cap funds need to buy some and they should by now all be tightly held by PI's who have seen 100-200% gains and haven't taken thethe profit REASON they have reached the logical conclusion that this is a multibagger like no other.... so demand will exceed supply and the price must therefore rise almost inexorably....well to the point where everyone can see the emperor is bare....this could after all be the South Sea Bubble of the 21st century!!
(e) The company is not a one trick pony..the second RNS confirms the power of the STIL platform....from the identification of a problem to tackle and the formulation of a strategy to preclinical success takes on average 6-8 years....SAR floated in late 2004 so 2011-3 is the period when the initial products will come home to roost...this is the first two of the initial products and there is a pipeline of other targets which they have started to tackle over the last 6 years which we are not including in the valuation
(f) The biggest asset the company has is the technology to identify the disease cause and the molecule to solve it...this can be rolled out for hundreds of diseases....the building of the magic bullet and the testing of it are time consuming but relatively simple....so in effect YOU ARE NOT investing in a cure for myeloid luekemia but rather in a cloud factory to produce the CURES to many diseases.....and healthcare is the only part of the economy in the UK or the world which is not being cut back at the moment
IN SUMMARY SAREUM's DIAGNOSIS AND DESIGN PROCEDURE IS BIGGER THAN E-PROCUREMENT / RDIF / ALTERNATIVE ENERGY and SCARCE MINERAL RESOURCES PUT TOGETHER.

SAR has a very good chance of strong interest from potential licencees now. Nothing guaranteed as always with research companies like this, but it cannot be ruled out as a potential 10+ bagger from here on.

A bit of a sob story for you Driver. I have been in these for longer than i care to remember. On Feb 9th the sp flew and I decided to sell a majority of my holding for 4.6p having bought substantially lower; pressed sell and sat back with a satisfied grin, at which there was a flash and a bang and the electric cut off. By the time the power had been restored the sp had fallen to 3.1p and my sell order had failed! Sold at that price, without a grin! Still holding 150k. Not a lot but staying with the potential. (Ramped or otherwise!)

morning all - another good day - plenty of press over the weekend & from the other side:
'I sent another email to Claire Noyce of Hybridan. My Email: Hi Claire, Thanks for your reply, but Tim put me onto yourselves! Can you at least let me know how often brokers target prices are reviewed as Sareum is now well out of date? Kind Regards xxxxx
Claire's reply last night: Dear xxxxx, Again, it is very difficult for me to comment in detail. To keep this non stock specific, i would make two comments. One: there is no rule here defining when a broker needs to move his target and two:Companies don't always want research written for various reasons it might not be the right time. Best regards Claire Noyce
I read this as Sareum asking Hybridan not to report yet and probably because they want the latest RNS to run its course and also they are very close to a deal, which will then make it easier to re-rate the stock! GLA today'

Sareum Holdings: An early stage drug group with a very interesting future
16th Feb, 11:20 am by Jamie Ashcroft
Sareum was formed in 2004, after the biotech bubble burst but before the financial crisis ravaged the capital markets. Sareum was formed in 2004, after the biotech bubble burst but before the financial crisis ravaged the capital markets.
The junior biotech space has been bubbling with excitement over the past two weeks. And in fact there appears to be the early signs of a renaissance in this cutting-edge sector.
If you are thinking of piling in ahead of the crowd, I have just a couple of words of warning.
Investing in these small-cap drugs stocks is not for the faint hearted. For every Amgen current value US$40 billion and growing - there are ten or more failures.
It is a roller coaster ride punctuated with failure more than success. So, you need to take a three-to-five year view.
That said, when these stocks take off, they do so spectacularly - you only have to look at recent performances of ValiRX (LON:VAL) and Sareum Holdings (LON:SAR), a company we here at Proactive Investors believe is a very interesting play in the biotech space.
It operates in oncology, which is the sexy end of drug discovery. Short of finding a cure for the common cold, a breakthrough discovery for cancer represents the Holy Grail for researchers and investors alike.
Hundreds of companies and thousands of scientists have devoted millions of man-hours to the quest. What we have, however, is a hodge-podge of life extending drugs and a couple of anti-cancer vaccines.
The urbane Jean-Pierre Garnier, the former boss of Glaxo, once said oncology products were progressing so fast that cancer could soon be managed as a chronic ailment rather than a life sentence.
Sadly, the latest wave treatments have failed back up this rather bold assertion.
However such is the interest in this particular area of medicine that any company making progress with a treatment for cancer is deemed hot property.
The performance of shares in Sareum is a graphic illustration of this.
It is in the early stages of developing a treatment for leukemia, a disease which kills over 200,000 people in the developed world each year.
Last week it published some pre-clinical data. Remember this is very, very early stage stuff yet the stock was like a runaway train.
The share price rocketed over 1,600 percent in just three days, rising from 0.275 to 4.79 pence.
Okay, the companys results look very positive. An in-vivo study of Sareum's Aurora+FLT3 Kinase programme, targeting the most common form of adult leukaemia, showed that the leukaemia had regressed to such an extent that no detectable cancer could be found in any of the cases treated - ten in total.
By comparison, leukaemia increased five to fifteen fold in the study examples treated without Sareum's compound.
Here we take a deeper look at the headline grabbing biotech junior. Proactive Investors spoke to Sareums founding director and chief executive Tim Mitchell.
Reinvigorated after weathering the financial storm
Sareum was formed in 2004, after the biotech bubble burst but before the financial crisis ravaged the capital markets.
It was spun out of Millennium Pharmaceutical when the American oncology specialist wrapped up its UK operations.
Mitchell, Millenniums director of structure-based discovery, founded the new business alongside Doctors John and Valerie Reader. Between them, Mitchell and the Readers, are the companys largest shareholders with 3.1 percent each.
Back then Sareum took a two-pronged approach.
It owned its own laboratories where it carried out in-house research on early pre-clinical stage drug compounds. Meanwhile it hired-out its spare capacity to work on other research on behalf of larger pharmaceutical firms.
The in-house research soon took a back seat and over three fairly successful years Sareum built up its service division. By 2007 it had 35 staff and it was turning over 35 million a year. Indeed the service division quickly grew in stature and at its peak it was handling more than 20 programmes for a variety of firms - including industry giants Roche and Johnson & Johnson.
Just before the financial crisis began to bite Sareum was almost breaking even, with its small losses being supported by modest capital raising in the AIM market.
The plan was always to use the service division revenues to support the in-house drug development until it could land a licensing deal and bring its own drug development to the fore.
For Sareum the tough years that ensued amid the recent financial turmoil presented a notable silver-lining, as it ultimately brought forward these plans.
The bottom fell out of the services market for a while, particularly in the US, and the AIM market wasnt in terribly good shape either, Mitchell said.
We were both struggling to earn money and struggling to raise money. We had to undergo a major rethink and restructuring.
Mitchell adds: This essentially brought forward our plans to concentrate solely on our internal research.
As the capital markets dried up and many of its peers went to the wall, Sareum sold of its service division for 720,000 in August 2008. It then striped back its remaining operations, closing its labs as part of the process.
In doing so it has created an efficient virtual organisation that outsources all the research work on its proprietary drugs compounds.
We operate out of an office now (rather than a lab), Mitchell said.
It keeps our costs low if we have to, but it is very flexible as we can turn-on the research as and when we require.
Indeed a quick glance at the stocks chart even before last weeks explosive rally suggests that Sareum has weathered the storm and after a relatively quiet transitional period it has once again burst into life.
The leukaemia study
With its newly restructured, and efficient, operation Sareum has been quietly getting its head down, progressing a number of pre-clinical research programmes into a variety of new drug compounds.
The latest results from the pre-clinical Aurora+FLT3 Kinase programme propelled the stock to more than a 1,600 percent gain last week.
Mitchell surmised that it was a standard pre-clinical test, using model systems where a cancer is induced and the drug compound is then applied to try and get rid of it. The tumour was measured every few days and compared with the untreated cases.
We got a very very good result, Mitchell said.
In the treated cases nothing was able to be found. Although that doesnt mean that the cancer wasnt there it was just too small to be detectable.
The experiment then continued with no further treatment to the tumour, to see whether it grows back.
Mitchell adds: It did grow back in eight of the ten cases, but not in two. This is still a great result.
The best result would be that the cancer never came back in all ten cases. But with another round of treatment we may get that ten out of ten.
Indeed the result was undoubtedly a game-changer, as least as far as investors were concerned.
Mitchell reckons the results stack up well against a number of more advanced drug candidates that are being developed in the clinic by his competitors.
He said that Sareum tries to compare the results as best it can against other similar drugs that are in development, although he notes that not all experimenting conditions are the same.
Against similar compounds that are already in early-stage clinical trials our result is at least as good, and while they might argue in our view theyre better, Mitchell said.
We see an advantage. Our results seem to be forming better than those that are out there in clinical trials, when they were at this stage.
However Mitchell stressed that there is still plenty of follow up work to do.

If you want a 'big un' simply click on "Draw Chart" on the bottom right hand side of the box and voila, a lovely chart showing SAR's progress (or otherwise!). Scroll to the bottom of the chart and you will see "Paste Chart to Bulletin Board..." click on that and follow the instruction (copy and paste). Unfortunately I am not a 'chartist' so cannot offer any advice on the chart itself other than the "Live Intraday Charts" can often (but not always!) show the likely trend for the day and is useful when run alongside Level 2. Only my opinion that though!

Patience, Tabby, patience! If this is destined for big things then so be it, it will happen. Do not put the house on it though, not yet. Should be good for a short term gain.
As for AVCT, well the same applies, though they at the sale end of things. Their last Interim Results Notification and Trading Update was a little cautionary ("Whilst continuing to grow substantially, turnover for the current financial year is anticipated to be lower than previously expected with marginally greater pre-tax losses.") and that may well hold the sp back for a while. Good potential however, so long as sales can be maintained, obviously. Definitely worth keeping an eye on, so thanks for bringing it to our attention.

ref post no. 94.
yet another after the event, with full descriptive reasons for buying and not selling out that can only be so accurate from hindsight, in my opnion. is it little wonder that those that are past post posted deny it and insist that it is simply luck. try saying that..-)
after all if they got caught out they would be in serious trouble. fortunately not many can be bothered.and anyway even if they could they would probably be shouted down so loudly and bombarded with either abuse or proof as to the contrary that they would most likely give up. bit like me.i surrender.
all just my opinion as always.
good luck to all

JKD...I can only take it as a compliment that you follow me so closely round these bbs...I have to say your post concerning this stock is correct....I have always kept an eye out since the Millennium days....SAR have always performed terrible!
The announcement made on 7 February 2011 moved the price up many multiples...only to close at half the days highs...I was having a laugh with m3 et al on the 11th after a further decline when I actually read the full announcement...it was actually really good news...stunning!
JKD...I had missed the boat...could have bought for fractions of a penny...ended up paying 1.29p and change...it looked like a mug punt when SAR quickly fell back to a 1p...
I have since loaded again at 1.91p and change...I aint been clever with this stock...never pretended to be...and have placed all my bets after the initial news...
JKD...I could just be a thicko on this one...time will tell if I can add lucky?
To all other posters...apologies if my posts have deceived in the manner JKD is claiming on this thread...good luck holders...

Posted on another thread...you can probably take it as a blatant ramp...but carefully worded and an interesting view....
MD...I have been associated with the industry for some time, mostly around post licensing surveillance and partnership facilitation. Just to be clear...I have not heard anything from Tim or anyone who is employed by Sareum directly. What I do know is that Tim and friends value this company very highly (in cash terms) and had no interest in encouraging a t/o...I understand that recent discussions..that I believe are far more than preliminary chat...have led to a change of focus. The fact that the firm interest comes from more than one area will push up the price to a very significant level.
Feel free to speculate about the offer price...but imho it will be very high indeed. The only sticking point will be the IP (and related protection) not yet in the pipeline. I would guess that the press will pick up before too long on the likely t/o...and then we'll get a RNS.

Either they are being very cautious who they choose for a licencing partner, or a licencing agreement is not forthcoming. I would like to think that it is the former and they can't make up their minds whether to go for GSK or AZN (or a company of that calibre!).
Perhaps still a little early, but I'm starting to get itchy feet here. Have SAR got a cure? :o)

Preclinical Development Candidate Selected for Chk1 Inhibitor Programme

TIDMSAR
(AIM: SAR) 15 August 2011
SAREUM HOLDINGS PLC ("Sareum")
Preclinical Development Candidate Selected for Chk1 Inhibitor Programme
Sareum, the specialist cancer drug discovery business, The Institute of Cancer
Research ("the ICR") and Cancer Research UK's commercial arm, Cancer Research
Technology Limited ("CRT") are pleased to announce the selection of a
preclinical development candidate from their joint research collaboration.
The joint research collaboration targets Chk1 (Checkpoint Kinase 1). Chk1 is
important in controlling a cancer cell's response to DNA damage, which may be a
consequence of the cancer itself, or intentionally caused by chemotherapy or
radiotherapy.
Preclinical model studies carried out at the Cancer Research UK Cancer
Therapeutics Unit at the ICR demonstrate that the Chk1 candidate, dosed via the
oral route, in combination with the chemotherapeutics gemcitabine or irinotecan
significantly reduces cancer growth rates compared to treatment with the same
dose of chemotherapeutic without the Chk1 inhibitor.
Further preclinical studies demonstrate the potential for the collaboration Chk1
development candidate to reduce tumour growth when given as a sole treatment in
models of certain cancer types that are believed to be dependent on Chk1 for
survival.
Sareum's CEO, Dr Tim Mitchell, commented: "The selection of a preclinical
development candidate is a major milestone for the collaboration that will
significantly enhance the licensing package. Our research indicates that the
selectivity and oral dosing properties of this candidate give it a competitive
advantage."
Professor Paul Workman, Director of the Cancer Research UK Cancer Therapeutics
Unit at the ICR, said: "The significant progress made so far is very pleasing
and highlights the value of partnerships between industry and academic drug
discovery groups like ours. There is further important development work to be
done so that patients can one day benefit from these drugs, and we look forward
to the progress of the compound towards the clinic."
Dr Philip Masterson, Associate Director at Cancer Research Technology, said: "We
are working to select the right commercial partner to take the Chk1 programme
into clinical development. Our ultimate aim is that one day, this drug will
become available to treat a range of cancers and save more lives from the
disease.
Our scientists have shown that this drug is promising in preclinical studies,
and we hope further research will prove that it can be used on its own or
alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy to destroy cancer cells in patients."

Operational Highlights
* Significant progress on the two most advanced cancer programmes including
positive in-vivo efficacy data from Chk1 and Aurora+FLT3 programmes
* Nomination of preclinical development candidate for Chk1 in August 2011
Financial Highlights
* GBP950,000 (before expenses) raised by way of three share placings

Tim Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer of the Company, said: "The announcement of
two successful in-vivo efficacy studies, and the selection of a preclinical
development candidate, bring Sareum closer to the commercialisation of drug
candidates from our in-house development pipeline. We are currently actively
seeking to license these programmes in order to allow us to drive forward other
programmes that have been generated from our SKIL platform.
The placings during the course of the year, which raised a total of GBP950,000,
have provided us with sufficient working capital for the foreseeable future to
continue the current level of development of our in-house programmes."

Thanks SkinnyThere are four statements by SAR that convince me this investment is sound :-
Significant progress on the two most advanced cancer programmes including positive in-vivo efficacy data from Chk1 and Aurora+FLT3
Sufficient cash resources for foreseeable future
Two successful in-vivo efficacy studies, and the selection of a preclinical
development candidate
We are now actively engaged in talks over potential licensing and co-development agreements with interested parties.
With the present state of market confidenceI would suggest this a great stock pick!

It has taken a long time to find a partner, they started looking in March last year, they are either very picky or what they have is not too tempting. Perhaps they are simply asking for too much in return. Time will tell, let's hope it is a short time not another 17 months!

The company put out an RNS on the 4th saying that it will announce its Interim Results for the six months ended 31 December 2012 "on or before 18 February 2013."
Today's RNS states that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued notification that a patent will be granted for one of Sareum's key drug discovery inventions on 19 February 2013. The granting of this patent means that Sareum has approved patent protection in the US for key elements of its SKIL platform and many of its drug discovery programmes. It goes on to say that the Company expects to receive similar protection in Europe and other major markets in due course.
It's all about timing with SAR! ;o)

Good for you 3m. I hope you manage to get a decent return. I also hope that SAR are not a company who are all noise and no substance. They have been making the right noises for a while now but it seems to fall on deaf ears, though all Biotechs take a lifetime (sometimes literally) to bring something new to the fore. For obvious reasons I hope that they really can make a difference. My son-in-law has been doing various things to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer in honour of his late mother who championed the cause. Another cause she championed was AIDS charities. Tomorrow my son-in-law, who hates the feel and sight (and taste) of any sort of fish, is going to jump into a tankful of sharks, small ones, but sharks nevertheless, to raise funds for AIDS charities. I hope shareholders in SAR will not turn out to be victims of sharks!!
