IQE secures major outsourcing contract with leading RF component manufacturer
IQE's North American subsidiary, IQE Inc, today announced it has secured a major
outsourcing contract to supply a leading North American RF Component
Manufacturer with epitaxial materials for its RF based components used in mobile
handsets. The agreement, which is effective from 1st November 2004 and is for a
minimum term of two years, renewable annually thereafter, provides for IQE's
Bethlehem site to supply more than 90% of the customer's anticipated demand for
their advanced RF wafer products and is estimated to be worth around US$25
million in revenue to IQE over the initial two year period. As a result of the
agreement, internal wafer manufacture at the customer's site will cease. Both
parties have been working closely together for several years; a relationship
through which IQE has gained a high degree of confidence in its own ability to
service the outsourced epiwafer needs of major manufacturers.
IQE's President & CEO, Drew Nelson said "This agreement with such a prominent
global supplier of RF components for the cellular phone market demonstrates a
clear movement towards the outsourcing model within the compound semiconductor
industry. Their selection of IQE as the primary partner, as a result of our
large and comprehensive production capacity, and low cost structure, endorses
the Company's commitment to the outsource model"
A spokesman for the customer commented: "outsourcing certain products and
services such as the manufacture of our RF epitaxial wafers allow us to
concentrate our efforts on the processes that add significant value to our
product offering within the global, highly competitive RF market place and we
are pleased to build on previous work we have undertaken with IQE. This
agreement will allow us to be one of the most highly cost effective players in
the RF component marketplace"

Breakthrough contract win
IQE has announced that it has won a $25m two year outsourcing deal
with a leading US RF component manufacturer. This is a genuine
breakthrough for IQE it gives us the confidence needed to raise our
target price to 15p
IQE have won a major outsourcing contract with a leading US Radio Frequency
wireless/mobile components company. The contract has a minimum term of
two years and an initial value of $25m. This is one of the four contracts that
management were referring to at the time of the fund raising in November
2004. The other three do not appear to be close to signing at present but the
list of potential customers is still there and management continue to talk to
other parties. This contract win proves that there is a market for wholesale
outsourcing of epitaxy and we expect others to follow but not in the
immediate future.
We estimate the split to be $10m:$15m between year one and year two. The
contract involves the closure of the customer's facilities and because of the
sensitive nature of this the identity of the customer has not been announced.
We are not changing our forecasts. This $10m for the first year is already in our
27.2m revenues estimate for next year. It is worth noting that because the
contract is with an existing customer there is an element of revenue substitution
in this contract. However, this announcement does mean that we are
considerably more comfortable with the forecasts than we were.
If more contracts come through, the revenues should go straight into our
forecasts. We would not expect the other contracts to be as substantial as this
but given the marginal loss/profit scenario we have forecast for next year their
effect on earnings could be significant.
As a result of this announcement we have increased confidence in the forecasts
and so we are increasing our share price target to 15p.

Review of Today :
Level 2 closing at 2 v 2 with EVO and KLWT on the bid and WINS and MLSB on the offer.
Large buys will continue to come into next week as long as the KLWT on the bid and WINS on the offer combination continues...as things stand thats how the way it is so more large buy orders that need to be filled are in the pipeline.
All profit taking : more like loss taking out of the way today which is very good with the price obviously holding onto its gains from yesterday.
Here comes another large buy : 250,000 T BUY comes through at 12.25 pence.
KLWT picked up 2 million shares today :
500,000 T BUY came through at 12.00 pence
250,000 T BUY came through at 12.25 pence
KLWT stil have 1.25 million shares for someone.
Here comes another : 250,000 O BUY comes through at 12.25 pence.
1 Million bought by someone now today : KLWT have 1 million shares left now for someone.
Here comes another : 250,000 VW BUY comes through at 12.25 pence
Someone has bought 1.25 million shares now today : KLWT have 750,000 shares left for someone.
Now does anyone else remember the shanigans by WINS this morning...constantly bringing the offer to 12.25 and 12.50 pence. The above buys was the reason as to why.
I'd lay odds on press comment at the weekend and a further rise next week - this is due to reach mid teens before too long, as it's a good company with (strange in these times) a board who tell it like it is.
They've been honest when trading wasn't going well. Now they're saying it is going well. They also say they've been progressing towards orders with a number of far eastern customers. They also say they're targetting ebitda break-even on a month-by-month basis by their year end. Given the order this week and the attention that has brought, and the positive statement that accompanied it, why would anyone except an extremely short term trader want to get out of these?
MMs picked up 2 million shares at 11.50-12.00 pence and sold them at 12.00-12.25 pence....that's how it works...the MMs made their profit as well. Now another question with a 1.25 million buy order in the background at fixed prices how the hell can the price go pass those prices that the buy order is fixed at without them buys being filled first.
As I said earlier WINS and KLWT combination closed like that on Level 2...so as long KLWT stay alone on the bid and WINS alone on the offer - it means more larger buys are in the pipeline.

18M nanotechnology cash from UK government shared by Taylor Hobson, IQE, Applied Multilayers, University of Huddersfield, and NPL
06 Sep 2004
IQE is part of a UK consortium alongside Taylor Hobson and Applied Multilayers, who are to take part in a new, UK government project to develop new nano metrology technologies with a share of an 18million UK government grant to fund research and product development. Other partners include: National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, and The Centre for Precision Technologies at The University of Huddersfield.
The UK-based consortium has been awarded funding in excess of 1 million for Semiconductor and Optical Layer Analysis and Definition using Interference Microscopy (SOLADIM). The aim of the programme is to help develop measurement techniques and international specifications for surface texture measurement of epitaxial wafers and thin film coatings.
The project will be co-ordinated by the lead partner, Taylor Hobson, who will provide the Talysurf CCI non-contact measurement solutions for the demanding applications of IQE and Applied Multilayers. The Talysurf CCI is the enabling technology that will allow the establishment of international standards for nano-surface roughness.
The grants are part of the Governments drive to help companies, research organisations, and universities exploit potential applications for new technology so that the UK can be a technology leading country. It is estimated that the global market for nano technology could be $1 trillion within the next decade.

News on nano technology :
Memories may mark early beachhead for nanotech
By Rick Merritt
EE Times
November 05, 2004 (10:36 AM EST)
SAN JOSE, Calif. Nanotechnology is moving forward on many fronts with semiconductor memories expected to be one of its first major beachheads in electronics.
That was the conclusion of a day-long conference sponsored by market watcher Semico Research Corp. here Thursday (Nov. 4). "We think nanotech represents the next phase of Moore's Law, and it is creating an interdisciplinary renaissance," said Steve Jurvetson, managing director at Draper, Fisher Jurvetson (Menlo Park, Calif.). Since 2000, the venture capital firm has invested about $80 million in some 20 companies broadly in the field.
"It is hard to think of an industry that won't be revolutionized by nanotech in the next 50-100 years, including everything from agriculture on out," he said in a keynote here.
Jurvetson defined nanotech as anything working at 100 nm and below in the area where life sciences, materials science and electronics come together. "This is at the nexus of the sciences," he added.
Nanotech startups range from developers of basic materials and tools to suppliers of novel thermal management technologies and optoelectronics components. Several players are queuing up to deliver novel nanotech memories by 2007.
"In electronics, memory is the first place nanotech plays out in a big way," said Jurvetson.
LSI Logic is developing an embedded memory for its ASICs using the carbon nanotube based technology from startup Nantero Inc. (Woburn, Mass). LSI believes it could use the technology to embed more than 30-Mbits fast memory on an integrated cellphone processor, the current embedded memory limit due to power leakage and yield problems with conventional memories, said Norm Armour, vice president of LSI's fab operations in Gresham, Ore.
"It's a couple years out bit it looks very promising. The promises of single-wall nanotubes are almost too good to be true," said Armour.
Bob Merritt, Semico's vice president of emerging technologies, said by 2007 several companies will deliver nanotech-based nonvolatile memories with SRAM-like speeds and DRAM-like densities. The parts especially when combined on-chip with high performance logic could offer dramatic new capabilities to wireless devices, microprocessors, ASICs and a range of fabless semiconductor makers.
"We foresee a new paradigm of performance well beyond what could be forecasted by Moore's Law," said Merritt.
Indeed, current memories were architected with PCs in mind, while today's high volume cellphones stack DRAM, SRAM and flash die in an effort to meet their memory needs, said Avo Kanadjian, vice president of marketing for Nantero that plans to sample Mbit-class memories in 2005.
"The performance of ASICs and SOCs are definitely limited by the performance of DRAM and flash," he said.
For its part, Axon Technologies Corp. (Tempe, Ariz.) said it will deliver a very low power nonvolatile DRAM as a discrete chip by early 2007. "If we don't have a new memory out I that time frame we will miss the bus and be doomed," said Michael Kozicki, chief technology officer and founder of Axon.
Freescale Semiconductor Inc. is sampling its magnetic RAM in Mbit densities now. It expects users to qualify discrete parts starting next year for applications replacing battery-backed SRAM and flash/SRAM combinations, said Saied Tehrani, Freescale's director of MRAM.
"The need for a new memory architecture is very real. This is something all semiconductor manufacturers are currently looking at," said Salvatore Coffa, a director of research at STMicroelectronics focused on optoelectronic and post-silicon technologies.
ST is working on a variety of nanotech-based components including opto-couplers, DNA microarrays and LED replacements that could offer more tightly focused light beams and lower costs than today's products. The company is also working with a European consortium on polymer electronics based on nanotech that could deliver KHz range devices at very low costs.
Other areas where nanotech will start to have a significant impact in the next three to five years include solar cells and novel battery types such as fuel cells, said Jurvetson.

IQE Scores $25M RF Epiwafer Outsource Contract
November 4, 2004...IQE's North American subsidiary, IQE Inc. of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania USA has announced that it has secured an outsourcing contract to supply a leading North American RF Component Manufacturer with MBE-grown epitaxial materials for the customer's RF based components used in mobile handsets. The agreement, which has just gone into effect, and is for a minimum term of two years, and is estimated to represent $25 million in projected revenue for IQE for those initial two years. The contract amounts to supplying more than 90% of the customers anticipated demand for their advanced RF wafer products. The unnamed customer has been working with IQE for years and their second source contract is deemed to be a positive sign of a definitive upswing for IQE, a company currently with a total of approximately 200 employees, and a good sign for the international RF epiwafer foundry houses in general.
IQE's President & CEO, Drew Nelson remarked on the occasion of announcing the contract that, "This agreement with such a prominent global supplier of RF components for the cellular phone market demonstrates a clear movement towards the outsourcing model within the compound semiconductor industry. Price should continue upwards -EVO stick glue will be surprised again if IQE announce another contract win very soon as its clear that this great win of last week took them by surprise. The main thing is that the outlook for IQE is bouyant and last time they gave an upbeat outlook this went from 8p to 20p+ and there is more reason for this to happen again as the recent contract win clearly shows that they will win more contracts .ARM HOLDINGS and other related chip companies have beaten city forecasts due to this very reason (greater sales and outlook better).

-------Canada Life Limited bought 12,551,156 shares in the fundraising this time last year at 15.00 pence....they have held onto all the shares over the year and with this encouraging contract win announced on Thursday they bought another 2 millions shares on Thursday to take their holding to 14,551,156 Ordinary Shares.
It seems that Canada Life Limited have got a lot of faith in IQE and won't be reducing their holding at these prices but are actually looking to increase their holding at these prices and are taking a long term view with these. And why shouldn't they, there is no reason why these cannot get to the 1.00-1.50 levels over the next 18 months.

100,000 T BUY at 11.50 pence.

Hi thesaurus, I increased my holding at 10.07 pence today.
Another large buy came through today from the large buys that MMs have got on their books to put through :
250,000 T BUY reported at 10.25 pence.
More mugs gave their shares away too cheaply to the MMs today and the big boys hence got theirs cheaper.
"WINS cannot stay still"
Happened on Friday when after close :
250,000 buy came through at 12.25 pence
250,000 T buy came through at 12.25 pence
250,000 VW buy came through at 12.25 pence
500,000 T buy at 12.00 pence before close
WINS could not stay still yesterday as well :
250,000 T buy came through at 11.50 pence
100,000 T buy came through at 11.50 pence
WINS could not stay still today as well :
250,000 T BUY came through for today at 10.25 pence at a time of 16.14 hrs.
MMs picked up 250K shares at 10.25-9.75 pence by panicking investors into selling and hence filled the 250,000 BUY at 10.25 pence....still some profit for them. That buy had to be filled at 10.25 pence hence WINS were up and down like a monkey with the offer price at 10.25 and 10.50 pence.

IQE wins contract worth up to $25 million
8 November 2004
A pioneer of the outsourcing model, epiwafer provider IQE has agreed a two-year deal that could be worth up to $25 million with a US RF component manufacturer.
UK-based epiwafer supplier IQE has won a contract, potentially worth up to $25 million, with an undisclosed US RF component manufacturer.
The two-year deal is effective from 1 November. It involves IQE supplying over 90% of the anticipated demand for the customer's epitaxial material, which is used to produce components for mobile handsets.
IQE's customer, which it has worked with for several years, will now cease epiwafer manufacture at its own site. The epiwafers will instead be produced at IQE's US site, located in Bethlehem, PA, which specializes in MBE growth.
"This agreement with such a prominent supplier of RF components for the cellular phone market demonstrates a clear movement towards the outsourcing model within the compound semiconductor industry," remarked Drew Nelson, IQE's CEO.
IQE's recent annual revenue has been in the region of $30 million, and so this deal could increase the company's top-line figure by up to 40 percent.

During the last four years, an update on trading has been announced in November...We should be getting a trading statement sometime soon.
Is it going to be a case of the big boys buying in heavily again before the trading update comes. The big boys were filling their boots at 8.5-9.5 pence days and weeks before the contract news came as well at the expense of retail investors who either couldn't spot that those large trades were buys or were just too blind to take notice of the trades going through. Some of us did spot them and bought in at 9.00 pence whilst the large buys were going through. Hence I put an emphasis on analysing the trades that go through along with the MM games. With a trading update due, don't you think now that the drop today and yesterday has been deliberate by the MMs so that they can fill the large buys on their books and get hold of any extras if they can.
The imminent trading update could be most positive one from IQE that has come before the final results in March 2005.

Microscopy keeps UK chip firms in front
A project being funded 1m from the Government will help keep compound chip firm IQE ahead of its field, according to Chris Meadows, IQE's head of marketing.
"From a technology point of view it's very important because it keeps us in the forefront of technology," said Meadows. "As new tools and techniques develop it means we're keeping up with it, rather than retrospectively getting involved."
IQE is part of a UK consortium formed of Taylor Hobson, Applied Multilayers, National Physical Laboratory, and the University of Huddersfield which will all take part in the project.
The 'Semiconductor and Optical Layer Analysis and Definition using Interference Microscopy' (SOLADIM) project will aim to develop measurement techniques and international specifications for surface texture measurement of epitaxial wafers and thin film coatings.
"We currently produce epitaxial layers and analyse the quality of these materials, but there are limitations to what you can measure, purely because of the current analytical techniques available," said Meadows.
"Under this project there'll be new techniques and tools developed to allow us to take that to the next generation," he said.
The GaAs market
The Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) microelectronics industry is forecast to grow by seven per cent a year from 2003 to 2008, according to research firm Strategy Analytics.
The worldwide GaAs device market will grow from $2.7bn in 2003 to reach $3.7bn in 2008, and mobile phones will still account for a third of the market in 2008.

IQE wins $25m US contract
Welsh epitaxial wafer firm IQE has secured a deal to manufacture epitaxial materials for an unnamed RF component firm in North America.
IQE said the deal was worth $25m in an arrangement which would last for a minimum of two years. Any continuation of the arrangement will be negotiated after that time.
The firm's site in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania will supply more than 90 per cent of customer's demand for its RF wafer products. The products are used in mobile handsets, said IQE.
IQE's president and CEO, Drew Nelson, said: "This agreement with such a prominent global supplier of RF components for the cellular phone market demonstrates a clear movement towards the outsourcing model within the compound semiconductor industry."
It is welcome news for IQE that has been struggling recently with losses. The firm has long been saying that an increasing shift to an outsourcing model would benefit the company.

Stat :

Here it comes...500,000 T buy comes through at 10 pence.
The 500,000 buy order was given to the MMs when the price was 9.75-10.25 pence at the open in the morning....hence quite early on the price got up to 10.50 pence on the offer on about 100K on buys. The 500,000 buy was the reason why, the 500,000 buy was filled by EVO during the day and put through as T trade again towards close.

Mostly encouraging but the below is from the last set of results I gather, the next set of results will be announced next Tuesay. It seems they about the same level as IQE, outlook sort of the same as IQE :
Soitec reports record sales for the 2nd quarter and for the half-year 2004-2005
- Soitec reports record sales for Q2 2004-2005 of 33.8 million Euros
- First half 2004-2005 consolidated sales increase 55.7% to 66.4 million Euros
- H1 2004-2005 operating profit expected almost at breakeven
Positive Outlook
Growth in first half-year sales, as well as a one-time benefit of 4 million U.S. Dollars, or 3.3 million Euros, from Silicon Genesis Corporation relating to damages for patent infringement, will favourably impact the Groups overall profitability. An operating margin almost at breakeven should be expected.
The Group confirms that its 300-mm manufacturing margin for the first half benefited from the strong volume increase, and as a result confirms that breakeven will be achieved in the coming months.
Concerning full-year sales, the Group anticipates annual year-on-year growth similar to the first half if the current exchange rate remains unchanged. The group will provide full-year operating results guidance with the half-year results release.
Reporting Calendar
First-half year results of the financial year 2004-2005 will be announced on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 after the Paris Stock Exchange closes.

"Networkers, hardware and semiconductors were among the best performing
sectors".
Wall Street - U.S. stocks surge as tech rallies - UPDATE 6
NEW YORK (AFX) - Stocks were extending their gains Thursday afternoon as
Intel paced a rally in technology amid news of a management shuffle at the chip
giant that included the retirement of its founder Andrew Grove.
Coca-Cola Co. stood out in the red, however, after the soft drink giant issued a
disappointing outlook.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was last up 97 points, or 0.9 percent, to
10,482 while the Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 24 points, or 1.2 percent, to
2,058 and the S&P 500 added 11 points, or 1 percent, to 1,174.
"I think the general market should now be viewed in more of a positive way,"
said Hinsdale Associates director of investments Paul Nolte, who is encouraged
that stocks haven't backed off after the recent big gains.
"I think it's entirely possible to hang on to this level or something around
here into the weekend," Nolte said.
After a dismal showing in the previous session, tech stocks were on rebound
Thursday. Networkers, hardware and semiconductors were among the best performing
sectors.
Intel was putting in a strong showing, up 1.5 percent, after the No. 1
chipmaker named current president and chief operating officer Paul Otellini to
be chief executive, replacing Craig Barrett, effective at the company's annual
meeting May 18.
Barrett will succeed Grove, the founder of the company, as chairman of the
board, while Grove will serve as a senior adviser to the board and senior
management.

As expected more larger buys got filled today :
170,000 buy came through at 10.50 pence
250,000 T buy came through at 10.50 pence
The MMs had to fill 2 large buys today : 250,000 at 10.5 pence and 170,000 odd at 10.50 pence hence the price could not rise and the MMs tried to get stock lower than 10.50 pence by keeping the bid at 9.50 and 10.00 pence so that way they make their profit as well.
Someone is trying to build a 3% stake here I reckon, as my calculations comes to around 8 + million in large buys since Thursday, they need another 500K or so I believe.

Thursday 04.11.04:

250,000 O buy at 12.25 pence

Monday 08.11.04:

Tuesday 09.11.04:

Wednesday 10.11.04:

500,000 X trade at 10.50 pence - transfer of 500,000 shares from one instituition to another.
500,000 T buy at 10.00 pence.
Thursday 11.11.04:
130,287 buy at 10.65 pence - Retail Investor
100,000 buy at 10.65 pence - Retail Investor
200,000 buy at 11.00 pence
270,000 buy at 10.70 pence
250,000 T buy at 10.50 pence.
Friday 12.11.04 :
170,000 buy at 10.50 pence
250,000 T buy at 10.50 pence
The total adds up to around 8.50 million shares so far. I think an instituition has nearly purchased the notifiable stake of 3% of the total number of shares in issue (315m) in IQE.

A trading statement has been coming for the last 4 years in November so one is coming tomorrow or next Thursday.
750,000 trade at 9.75 pence is a definite sell along with the 500K at 9.50 pence.

I just ignore them Kivver and get on with it (they are all on Squelch): and I've had a fantastic year thus far just because of that.
Today :
The T trade reported for 1,007,584 at 10.00 pence looks like a buy and the reason for the sudden jump in the price this morning when the offer was at 9.75 pence.
As I've said before when MMs have large sells to fill the on screen spread is tight as yesterday at 9.5-10.0 pence when the 500,000 and 750,000 sells came through.
When the MMs have large buys to fill the on screen spread is wide as it is has been today at 9.75-11.00 pence.
PS. The bashers will try to put it as a sell, that's what the MMs want the fools to think. Always think the opposite and you'll stay one step ahead.
Intersting a MM trade came through after close for 529,777 shares at 10.00 pence.
Some more T10 holders who bought on Friday 05.11.04 took up the option of rolling over their trades.
2 * 250,000 at 10.38 pence
2 * 150,000 at 10.38 pence
2 * 100,000 at 10.38 pence.
Then again...with the 250,000 trade the difference in time is 11 1/2 minutes...so not sure that is a rollover but looks 2 * 250,000 buys. Rollovers are like the 150,000 trade at 10.38 pence where the second trade is put through within seconds of the first one.
Couple of minutes gap on the 2 * 100,000 trades at 10.38 pence as well.

SueHelen

- 121 of 303
Yes I have emailpat....I made a 55% profit on my 1.90 pence purchase and 10% profit on my 2.50 pence purchase. Not bad wouldn't you agree considering the derampers were posting all day there and on ADVFN....I wasn't posting because then the derampers would have shouted the price went up to 3.00 pence bid because of ramping which is bizzare as Dil and dell314 could just not stop posting negative things there.
How remarkable eh...that I came out of QTR with a very good profit even though the thread was trashed the way it was.
Keep checking the stock though as Dil suggested it'll be at 0.25 pence by Christmas, didn't he and it'll go bust. Here's one for you, the housebroker is EVO and they have sitting on the bid at 2.00 pence collecting all the sells for the last month. I think you should ask the derampers why they do not post that kind of information on the QTR thread. EVO collected 9 million shares from City Equities at 1.60 pence and I was right all along that they did not sell any below that price and they're still accumulating stock.
None of the posters I recommended the stock to paid more than 2.50 pence so everyone should have made a good profit despite the way the thread was trashed.

Profit for the MMs again without any damage to the price. We've had a few large T buys at 10.25 pence over the last few trading days. Someone's had a very large buy order placed at 10.25 pence.

Well, the upside (in a few weeks ?) hasn't happened after all. surprise, surprise. Even though the trading statement was a little disappointing with the lower revenue forecast, overall the trading statement was fairly positive. Lots of good news included. Not surprised that the share price is marked down, this is to accommodate those lining up to sell on the back of the disapointment.
However, I see this as an opportunity to buy in at these levels and SP will strengthen medium term and will jump on any further contracts/development statements. All is not lost. I'm topping up at these levels when I get some funds available. (dyor, imho)

The most significant part of the recent trading statement says:-
The Group expects to report revenues for 2004 of not less than 15.3
million, which, although below our previous expectations, primarily due to a
weak third quarter and adverse exchange rates, have still resulted in us
achieving our expectations for EBITDA and cash levels. A number of positive
developments, including the winning of a major outsource contract worth around
$25m over the next two years, enabled the Group to exit 2004 with its largest
order book for two years, and an exit revenue run rate which will deliver
growing revenues in 2005. We believe we have sufficient capacity and resources
within the Group to deliver improved shareholder returns in the current year and
beyond.'
I think this means fair now with an improved future!

IQE plc
AGM Trading Update Statement
IQE plc (IQE), the leading global outsource supplier of customised epitaxial
wafers to the semiconductor industry, is pleased to announce the results of its
AGM, together with an AGM trading update.
At the AGM, held at the Group's offices in Cardiff today, all resolutions were
duly passed. In addition, President and Chief Executive, Dr Drew Nelson,
provided the following trading update to the AGM;
'As anticipated in the annual results statement, revenues for the first half of
2005 will be substantially higher than either the first or second half of 2004.
Overall, unaudited Q1/2005 revenues increased by 20.2% in dollar terms and 15.3%
in sterling terms compared with Q1/2004. This represents the second consecutive
quarter of significant revenue growth since Q3/2004, and we expect this
sequential growth to continue, resulting in revenues for H1/2005 which are
expected to be approximately 20% higher than for H2/2004.
The increased revenues will result in substantially reduced losses and a
reduction in operating cash outflow for H1/2005 compared with previous half
years, although final repayment of some debt and additional working capital
consumption for inventory build-up as part of the large outsource contract,
which was signed late last year, and capital expenditure at Wafer Technology
will increase overall cash outflow in H1/2005 beyond EBITDA. Nevertheless, we
expect the half year cash position to be in-line with our 2005 budget levels.
The wireless sector has continued to be strong for the Group, with the large
outsource contract running to plan and other qualified customers increasing
their demand. Final qualifications, particularly in the Pacific Rim countries,
are coming to conclusion in the next few months, further increasing expected
demand. Output at IQE Inc in H1/2005 has been limited to some extent by
specific routine equipment maintenance programmes, but is expected to continue
to increase throughout H2/2005 as these programmes complete.
Visible laser demand, particularly for industrial applications, has continued to
be strong although this has been offset to some extent by delays to newer
product launches where IQE has become qualified by customers, but their product
takeoff has been slower than they had anticipated. Recent indications are that
these new products, particularly VCSEL based products, are gaining acceptance in
the marketplace and orders are now beginning to come in to reflect the expected
increase in demand. In addition, IQE Europe has made good progress with the
development of a high power DVD product for the booming Read/Write marketplace,
which is currently being evaluated for performance and reliability by some of
our key customers. We therefore expect significant revenue growth from this
division during the coming months.
Quarter on quarter revenue growth at IQE Silicon has been strong, albeit from a
low base, as more customers become qualified and existing customers continue to
ramp up their demand from IQE. Progress on IQE's proprietary strained silicon
development continues well, and it is anticipated that major milestones towards
a final Strained Silicon on Insulator product for the 65nm technology node will
be achieved in the next few months. Additional outsourced product development
programmes on behalf of customers have continued to progress as planned.
Finally, Wafer Technology's business has been slower than anticipated due to
temporary inventory readjustment in the LED marketplace, but excellent progress
has been made in developing improved surface finishes for the higher margin
laser markets, and these are currently under qualification by a number of
customers.
We continue to pursue and seek out further outsource contracts that will benefit
from the economies of scale and technological expertise that IQE Group companies
can offer, and good progress continues to be made in this respect, although the
scale of some of these opportunities necessarily means timing can be somewhat
unpredictable. We also continue to focus on cost control within the various
Group companies to ensure the breakeven revenue points continue to reduce.
As we achieve the expected revenue increases throughout H2/2005, we remain
confident that we will achieve our target of ongoing cash generation on a
monthly basis during this calendar year.'

Recent News :
IQE begins shipping antimonide epitaxial wafers.
26 July 2005
IQE, Inc., Bethlehem, PA, US, has announced that it has begun shipping antimonide based epitaxial wafers, produced using the company's state-of-the-art, molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) platforms. IQE is aggressively pursuing a share of the growing antimonide market.
Antimonide (Sb) based compound semiconductors are emerging as key materials in a number of electronic and optoelectronic applications. Due to their unique band gap and lattice properties, Sb-based materials are particularly attractive for high-frequency, low noise, and low power-consumption electronic devices, as well as for long wavelength emitters and detectors. IQE is seeking to work together with an expanding base of key customers to further develop this market.
IQE has capability to grow a range of heterostructures by MBE using solid source valved Sb-crackers. The use of these systems enables the precise alloy and thickness control required to meet the stringent band gap engineering demands of the Sb-based structures. Integrating antimonide based alloys expands the capabilities of epiwafer structures on GaAs or InP substrates.
Wafer Technology Ltd, another IQE group company, is already firmly established as a leading manufacturer of antimonide substrates (GaSb and InSb) on which advanced epitaxial layers can be produced.
The epiwafer supply of custom-designed antimonide structures is available now and IQE's unparalleled experience in over 17 years of wafer outsourcing means that customers can be sure of a quality product with excellent uniformity and reproducibility.

HOLY GRAIL
If we get the holy grail of monthly breakeven in the upcoming results, this will be sharply re-rated imo. The current dollar strength must be working wonders for IQE's bottom line.
The Holy Grail of monthly EBITDA breakeven comes closer.
With the results due in just over 2 weeks, I would be surprised if there wasn't a bit of spec money chasing financial good news.
The cost base is in order
The order book is looking very rosy indeed
The semi conductor marketplace is at it's most active for eons
The dollar is being very kind to IQE
There is always the possibility of a groundbreaking deal
T10s will start buying soon in time for results plus i think we will get an other paper tip before results as well, IQE always leak when there is good news coming and it has been a long time coming.

Shares Magazine on 12 August 2005 :
IQE (IQE:AIM)
Sleeping for three years now, it could
be time for IQE to wake up and smell
the profits. The semi-conductor
manufacturer was trading at the dizzy
but ridiculous heights of 500p when it
listed in 2000. Along came the tech
crash and IQE made a spectacular fall
from grace. By the end of 2002, the
shares were practically worthless and
havent traded above 20p since.
However, one thing which has
remained consistent about IQE is its
leading position within the market.
The orders may have dried up, but IQE
remains top of its league.
Only now, something is stirring.
Apparently, in the last two to three
months, both order flow and cash flow
have improved. IQEs cash is now
breaking even - something it hasnt
managed for the last two-and-a-half
years. A very reliable source says that
May and June were months of record
business.
Its next set of results are going to
surprise the market, which has not
gone near IQE for years. Could be
worth getting in while its still dozing.

EVO's Buy Note which came out in November last year :
IQE (IQE) Buy
Mkt cap: 36m Net cash: 11m Contract win Price/Target: 11p/15p

From the 25th May 2005 AGM statement -
"As anticipated in the annual results statement, revenues for the first half of

Overall, unaudited Q1/2005 revenues increased by 20.2% in dollar terms and 15.3%

quarter of significant revenue growth since Q3/2004, and we expect this

expected to be approximately 20% higher than for H2/2004.
The increased revenues will result in substantially reduced losses and a

The most interesting part is that the price will start rising heavily from Monday after the 750,000 BUY at 9.25 pence at close on Friday. Bought another 17,000 odd shares at 10.45 pence near 4.00pm...as expected big buying volume today and expect more strong buying for the rest of the week.
Mark my words that we will see 15 pence on the price by Friday.
I tipped this share to recover as both the company and its new technology is sound, - all that is lacking is punter confidence - (assuming no company bomb shell announcements or major market corrections etc). A lot of silicon chips products will be purchased during the run up to xmas - hence inventory replenishment!!
If you want top double your money before end of the week - get onboard now. 5 million + volume today for IQE is wicked.....
Chart showing a clear breakout on the upside now...once we're past 12 pence...20 pence will come very quickly.
100K block buys going through above 10 pence was very nice to see....
100,000 buy at 10.40 pence
100,000 buy at 10.25 pence
220,000 buy at 10.25 pence
100,000 buy at 10.25 pence
152,815 buy at 9.75 pence
200,000 buy at 9.75 pence
752,158 buy at 9.50 pence
150,000 buy at 10.00 pence
Not your average punters having a dabble at IQE.
Expect more big size buying rest of the week.

In August 2004 after the half-year results were released....the price went from 10 pence to 20 pence in one week....there is no reason as to why it can't do the same again.
This time round we could do a lot better than 20 pence The company is in a much better position and profit noises are round the corner.
EVO who are the housebrokers of IQE had a valuation of 15 pence last November.....a new buy note will come out after the results with a much higher price target.

Those sellers will be paying 11.5 pence + the open tomorrow after the mark-up on the results.
10 pence is gone forever now.
Remember MMs were happy taking in all the sells at 10 pence....see for yourselves what happens tomorrow.

Well Sue, et al,
Where's the upward momentum in the SP then ?
All the hype about the SP going north quickly is not going to come to fruition.
results we're only what might've been expected... nothing exceptional here and a bearish outlook to the next 6 months, there's alot of what if's etc.,
That said, I'll stay in and hope that it has a good 2nd half.. If it does the SP will definately head north then... until then the SP will tread water unless they can get more contracts/deals signed..
Awards are all very well but what we need is sustained, demonstrated higher sales/revenue/profit/cash generation for this company to really turn round ! :)

Buy IQE before the herd instinct takes over
IQE, a Cardiff-based producer of the silicon wafers that microchips are made from, was floated in London in 2000 and in the September of that year its shares hit 680p. They closed yesterday at 9p.
There would seem little obviously to recommend them. The market is littered with former tech stars that have struggled to climb out of the red and whose business models have been found wanting. IQE's latest interim results, released yesterday, showed a pre-tax loss of 2.9m on sales of 9.7m, suggesting that however hard this doughty little company might try, it is doomed to join the list of tech has-beens.
However, while the semiconductor industry has suffered since 2000 from chronic over-capacity and falling prices, the near complete destruction of all value in IQE's share price is probably an over-reaction.
Things are not that bad. Prices for its wafers, supplied to large manufacturers such as Toshiba and Siemens, have stabilised. The company has its fixed costs under control and its variable costs, mainly raw materials, have fallen from 60 per cent of its cost base to 42 per cent. This means a lot more of each additional pound in sales can be converted into profit.
Significantly, the 9.7m of first-half revenues was a 32 per cent increase on last year and, in June, the company made its first operating profit for four years. The plan is working. IQE might feel like a speculative punt now, but in six months' time it will have attracted a stronger following. Buy now before the herd.

Press mention in the Independent today:
The former technology darling IQE, an intellectual property rights company involved in the development of silicon chip design, rose strongly to 11.37p, up 10 per cent on the back of a bullish trading statement and a contract win. The five-year contract, with an unnamed US manufacturer, is worth $2m (1.1m) a year to the group. It also said revenues for 2005 are likely to be about 55 per cent higher than in 2004.
