This company is the next 5-a-side generation which are generally located in urban areas of the country. At the moment there a only few centres opened throughout the UK, however it is growing. I think they are proposing to build 7 new centres in year 2007 and 5 centres this year alone.
I believe GOAL will be a potential bagger in terms of cash it will generate. I myself play at one of these centres at least twice a month. It costs about 60 to hire a pitch for one hour. It may sound alot but when divide by 10 players its 5.00 its good value and you get fit as well! At my centre there are 20 pitches at my local centre.thats already 1200 in one hour!! The good thing about these centres is that they are open virtually all year round 7 days a week. So cash generated is going to be considerable as it open more centres. The cost of maintenance is next to nothing, just simple and easy things are used nothing fancy or complicated like you see at the fitness centres. The number of staff at my centres are only small so company expenditure must be low as well.
Last Monday 6 March 2006 they announced their impressive results and is continuing to grow and already started paying dividends. They have announced new deal with Umbro for sponsorship.
As you know us Brits love football and now that there is World Cup coming up god knows what cup fever will bring to us...Play football of course!
I think the share price have the potential to grow considerably in the coming months and after the World cup

I thought about these but had concerns.
1. The cost of acquiring these huge plots of land to build the centres on cant be cheap and although 60 a pitch per hour may seem a lot it probably aint that much is you put it up against the cost of servicing the debt on the initial outlay to acquire and build the centre. What I'm saying is I wonder how their return on investment compares to say an Asda or Tesco on the same site.
2. Fives is a booming industry and continues to grow but having played at various centres they all seem to be completely dead midweek during the day and on sundays (in my experience). They need to find a way to fill these periods.
Just some thoughts. Although feel free to treat them as utter drivel. I will watch this company with interest and good luck to anyone investing.

Fair points on your concerns...
My local soccer centre was originally a driving range with a golf course where there was already a building facility in placed. So I think in this was a question of tidying the place up really. They have kept a golf course open as well, to generate any extra cash from golfers.
I reckon the bosses are clever in picking out the sites which are not necessarily new plot of land for their new centres, like they did to my local however I don't know how they have approached with the new and existing sites but obviously they are must be doing something right, otherwise they wouldn't be making any profits!

I think it will be more before xmas. After last result back in Mar 06 I think, I got in at 199p and nothing much happened for about two weeks and then sudden bounce and managed to sell at 245p mark before it dropped a little.
If I were you I would watch the number shares traded being traded on daily basis I noticed at the time I bought some the number of shares traded was increasing daily hence caused the sudden bounce.
I feel this company has plenty potential to grow, as I said before the brits just love playing football. It will never disappear
Unfortunately I am bit tied up with spare cash otherwise I would have long at 255p the results are showing good steady growth yearly.
I reckon it could rise as much to 350p by xmas IMO!

The one thing I like about this company, is if worse case scenario comes, they have lots of land to sell which be could worth millions to developers.
Also maybe they should be thinking about expanding in Europe as well?

just wondering how do you know when the price is exepnsive?
I sometimes use peg and for this case it is worked out at 0.51 value looking at this website.
i read somewhere to invest in shares with the peg is between 0.40-0.70 and sell when it reaches 0.9-1.0 (i think it was jim slater way of dealing shares)
stockdog
- 08 Oct 2006 19:25

Funnily enough, just re-reading Zulu Principle currently - Jim Slater says buy the PEG under 0.75, preferably under 0.6. Sell on any adverse change in the story, if SP reaches an absurd irrational peak, or if doing exceptionally well with continued 15% plus p.a. increase in EPS, hold and sell when PEG reaches 1.2. Suggests a stop loss of 25% for growth shares.
Picking and buying seem to be no problem - it's selling I can't get right.

I seem to have both problem mate, so I am hoping this one is right.
the problem is when selling is pure personal greed really, telling yourself i have enough and move on to something else. I usually set a target of 10-20%. the shares has to breathe when rising continiually that when you need to sell before.

It has 34 sites in the UK with plans for seven more this year and a further six in 2011. Five-a-side football operator Goals Soccer Centres said the exceptional snow falls from January through March 2010 reduced profits in the first half-year by 0.8m.
Sales up 3% to 13.2m (2009: 12.9m), with like for like sales down 3% (flat excluding the snow impact).
EBITDA was maintained at 5.8m (2009: 5.8m).
Adjusted Profit Before Tax was down 3% to 3.8m (2009: 3.9m).
Adjusted Diluted earnings per share were down 14% to 5.3p (2009: 6.2p).
Dividend was maintained at 0.675p per share (2009: 0.675p).
Net cash generated from operations was up 7% to 5.3m (2009: 5m) and net bank debt was 43.8m, well within newly extended facility of 55m.
Goals reported an accelerated rollout with four centres added during the current year at Liverpool North, Portsmouth, Eltham and Gillette Corner in London. Four further centres are under construction at Liverpool South, Sunderland, Ipswich and Norwich.
A joint venture in California, USA, opened in June 2010 and is trading in line with management expectations.
A franchise agreement has been granted to an experienced leisure operator in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Since the end of the 2010 World Cup like for like sales have improved by 3%. The Directors anticipate that the results for the year to end- December 2010 will show continued growth and will be within the range of current market expectations.
Keith Rogers, Managing Director of Goals said: 'Goals has delivered a robust trading performance in spite of the abnormal weather and a challenging economic environment.
'We took advantage of the opportunity that the World Cup presented to increase interest in our key product areas. This has resulted in increased Children's Parties and Corporate Events during the period and is now being reflected in an improvement in core football.
'Whilst the UK consumer outlook remains uncertain we are confident that results for the year to 31st December 2010 will show continued growth and will be within the range of current market expectations.'

In fact, looking through the last year RNS statements, the Directors have have been incrediably poor in timing share purchases. Range from 150p - 125p.
OK, they couldn't have forecast the snow which will hinder their profits but nevertheless they don't have a massive amount of headroom with their debt pile.
Doesn't really inspire that much confidence in the company.

Goals Soccer Centres posts underlying pre-tax profits of £4.4m for the six months to the end of June - 9% up on last time.
The group - a leading player in the fast growing 5-a-side soccer market which currently operates 44 centres in the UK, and one in Los Angeles -said sales were up 3% at £17.1m.
Underlying diluted earnings per share rose by 4% to 6.2p (2013: 5.9p) and the ordinary dividend is maintained at 0.675p per share.
Managing director Keith Rogers said: "Following the completion of the balance sheet restructuring the group has now secured more efficient long term funding to finance its expansion plans for the UK and US. Our mid-year results are encouraging with sales and profit improvement across the estate and well advanced plans to deliver two new centres in 2014 and three in 2015.
"I am confident Goals now has the team, processes, strategy, funding and pipeline in place to accelerate long term growth for its shareholders."

Disappointing interim results for the six months ended 30 June 2015.
With the UK market not looking terribly encouraging, despite management’s considerable marketing efforts, the Group’s future success appears to be dependent on growth in the United States, a traditionally tough market for UK businesses.
