THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Whilst I agree with most whistle blowers as they can do good by exposing corruption and the like, I do not agree in any way with Wikileaks releasing all the leaks they have done.
We all talk behind peoples backs, diplomats especially. If diplomats spoke their true feelings, we would be at war within weeks.
How many of us would like to stand in the street, and tell everyone willing to listen what we think of certain issues. If I did so re Muslims and terrorism whom I feel we deal with far too softly, I would either start a riot, be locked up or both. But I do make these views clear when I am speaking to friends, or colleagues.
Most countries tow the diplomatic line when speaking in public about other countries or their leaders, or directly to such leaders. That is how the world goes round.
I saw a very strange short film many years ago that has always stuck in my mind, although for the life of me I can only remember the theme, and nothing else.
This was a film were everyone for reasons I forget, had to tell the truth to everyone they met, including what they were thinking, (it could have been that everyone could read other minds).
Within a very short time, no one had any friends. Husbands had left wives/wives had left husbands, relationships in general fell apart, workers were being sacked because they told their bosses what they really thought and so on.
If we are all honest, how many of us think things many times per day, about people we meet, live with and work for that if we spoke those thoughts out loud would be in trouble. I would not advise telling your wife/husband the 100% truth of what you really think for even 24 hours, unless you are either very brave, foolish or both. Think about it!
In my opinion Wikileaks are being very irresponsible, and putting lives at risk.
I am aware of quite a few things that governments do and do not wish the public to know about, and I am sure there are far many more I don't know about.
Many dodgy things are done to protect us, the public (my view is not enough) that would have to be curtailed as the 'do gooding, liberal brigade' would not stand for.
So whilst some things obviously need to be outed, many things are better not being told.
Freedom of speech v privacy is and will always be a difficult area.
In the real world, Truth is good, total truth is very dangerous indeed.

A long time ago.

My father told me, that I was entitled to my own opinion.

He added that, if I gave an opinion, I should be prepared to defend it.

He also added that, it was only a fool who never changed his opinion.

He also told me, that if I sign an letter or form, the signature was representative of me and to accept the responsibility of not signing anything lightly.

If you write anything on a subject, which may effect the public in general, I think public are entitled to know.

As far as Wikileaks and Pllger, is concerned, it is interesting to see how many major decisions of political leaders were based on flimsy information, whim or ideology.

Often leading to colossal loss of the lives of others.

Exposure, may be of benefit to the majority of society, but I can see why the "elite" may be obstructive and prefer to remain and act unobserved.

Fred1new - 15 Dec 2010 17:54 - 10349 of 81564

H. and Alds,

It was also suggested to me, to look at the content of a parcel and not the wrappings.

I wonder what my valuation of either of you would be.

But thank you for pointing out my errors.

Fred1new - 15 Dec 2010 18:28 - 10350 of 81564

I have concluded that my valuations would be, glossy on the outsides and rubbish on the insides.

MightyMicro - 15 Dec 2010 21:24 - 10351 of 81564

To a reasonable extent, I do like some of our British traditions.

Because of that, I can't say I'm happy to read the following:

Off with her head: Rushed through legislation will let foreign owner of privatised Royal Mail remove Queen's head from stamps
