Cynic. I'm surprised at you buying back into VOG. Think you need to re-read page 14 of Mr Shipman's book. No disrespect, as I've done it in the past too, but having been burned many years ago, it's a lessson I certainly agree with Shipman on.

candolim - 07 Aug 2006 14:06 - 1070 of 2511

cynic when you have read mr. shipmans book page 14, let me know what strawbs means. not looking any better today.

Strawbs - 07 Aug 2006 14:11 - 1071 of 2511

Sorry. He basically says not to add to losing positions (or follow a falling price), because although you may get lucky on odd occassions (and get the rally you're looking for), the chances are you won't and you could see further falls. Basically, stay clear until a new trend develops. I only mention the book as Cynic recommended it to me (and I would agree it's worth reading). The book being "The Next Big Invesment Boom" by Mark Shipman.

I should also mention the book is aimed towards commodity investing rather than equities, but some of the general "common sense" type rules he outlines are worth knowing and where possible sticking to.

Have been watching VOG for a while, with the intention of a possible investment. However, from a TA perspective I think the SP still has further to fall. Looks like good solid support at 50p, the downtrend is slowing and there is negative divergence on the MACD histogram. Only thing that will stop 50p is positive news and I for one will wait for that level and confirmation of a change of trend. If I miss the bottom, so be it.

soul traders - 07 Aug 2006 14:22 - 1074 of 2511

Very sensible, PTH - I think that's the surest approach under current circumstances.

cynic - 07 Aug 2006 14:41 - 1075 of 2511

Strawbs and others ...... Mark Shipman's book is very good indeed, though he only deals in commodities of all types ...... I only got back inmto VOG vetry modestly on the basis that if it goes to ZERO I have not lost my shirt, and oif good news comes through in the meantime, i have a good though modest base to work from.

Haystack - 07 Aug 2006 16:31 - 1076 of 2511

How much cash have they left? They raised £13m in December before expenses, so it will be less than that for the net figure. They spent approx £10m in the previous 6 months (cash burn rate of £1.6m per month). It has been nearly 7 1/2 months since then. That would be about £12.45m spent since the fund raising it they have the same cash burn rate as the previous 6 months. They had £3m cash at end Nov 2005 a month before the share placing. If they are burning cash at the same rate as last year then they should have about a month's cash left now.

The RNS last Friday was interesting in that regard.

4 August 2006

Victoria Oil & Gas Plc ('Victoria' or 'the Company'), the oil and gas developer focused in the Former Soviet Union announces today that it has allotted conditional on admission 215,000 Ordinary Shares of 0.5 pence each in lieu of cash payment to advisers.

cynic - 07 Aug 2006 16:39 - 1077 of 2511

i read the RNS that way too ..... good way of preserving cash

soul traders - 07 Aug 2006 17:53 - 1078 of 2511

Haystack, you're right that more fundraising may be in the offing, although I'd consider that to be par for the course and it wouldn't put me off accumulating more shares.

The fact that they have allotted stock in lieu of a cash payment does not make me think that VOG is facing a crisis with its bankers, more that they have found an acceptable way of paying the bills, and that's fine by me.

cynic - 08 Aug 2006 07:57 - 1079 of 2511

just reminded myself (and perhaps others her) to look again at Petrofac, service provider to the oil industry.

new boy - 10 Aug 2006 17:47 - 1080 of 2511

Good day for VOG, big buyer in the back ground, good time to get back in

Haystack - 10 Aug 2006 19:01 - 1081 of 2511

Good day? It ended flat after being down with the majority of trades being SELLS. I don't see any bigbuyer.

Big Al - 11 Aug 2006 02:29 - 1082 of 2511

I'm waiting for 40p again. ;-0

cynic - 11 Aug 2006 07:50 - 1083 of 2511

would rather be in VOG (am again modestly) than in EME ..... if price drops to 40 would certainly buy more and even perhaps at 50

bonfield - 11 Aug 2006 09:44 - 1084 of 2511

I'm a bit surprised it's holding up at these levels albeit with a downside drift. I thought below 80 or 76 at least it wouldn't stop before 50p. Would any chartists care to enlighten me on what's sustaining the current price, e.g. Fib ratios etc.

BTW my last purchase was at 80.5 but I closed it out at 80 2 weeks later (fortunate to get such a price) when it failed to breach 90 as hoped. Wouldn't be comfy buying at these level with no apparent support.

Shocking how bad some of these cos have performed despite the oil price highs. Seems to me only DNX & VPC are performing and maybe Egdon?

Strawbs - 11 Aug 2006 13:21 - 1085 of 2511

Cynic,

Looks like your faith in VOG is about to be rewarded.....with a good price rise at least! IMO.

cynic - 11 Aug 2006 13:25 - 1086 of 2511

indeed ... whatever next? ..... probably slump by 40p as RNS re 103 comes in as dud!

Strawbs - 11 Aug 2006 13:27 - 1087 of 2511

You need to be less.....errrr....cynical. :-)
