THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Aldwickk, Thats a nasty stammer you have!!

My daughter has just phoned after a visit to the dentist for 'toothache'.

Diagnosis: An abcess under a previously treated (filled) molar.
Best option for treatment: First, a course of antibiotics. Then the previously filled molar will require root canal treatment and a crown.

She is quite heartbroken because she does believe that she takes exceptionally good care of her teeth.

She has a 'Dental Plan' (I don't know the details of it but don't really think much to it). Anyhow, thanks to that, this means that this little event will now cost her 600 instead of 900.

Isn't dental treatment now extortionately expensive?

beebusy - 18 Mar 2011 12:36 - 10791 of 81564

My partner had some implant gizmo that ran into thousands. The forces used to yank them out for free!! That 600 would be better employed in OTC +7% this am!! But,yes I do agree with you, my dentist bandies figures in their thousands around and I do wonder how the people without that sort of money ever cope. National health dentists seem to be a rare bread now. Maybe the next generation will have to resort to fans to hide the black stumps Elizabethan style.Pass me another mint Charles!! Yukkkkkk!!!!!

Doc,

In all seriousness it'll probably be a lot cheaper for her to fly to Spain for the day and get the work done there.

There are a few good northern European dentists (German, Swiss) who have surgeries in big tourist towns like Malaga which are popular with the Brits. Some of these dentists even come up to London once a month where they hold consultation days and quote a price for the treatment. The patient then just needs to book an appointment for the work and sort the transport (and accommodation if needed) out.

If you do some research you'll find there are some good savings to be made.

I once visited a Dentist in N Ireland. When I returned for follow up treatment I joined a group of perplexed people with appointments outside his surgery. Only to discover his brass plate had disappeared and so had he!!! Now you dont get service like that these days ??

Libya's government is declaring an immediate ceasefire "to protect civilians" in acordance with the UN Security Council resolution, Libya's foreign minister says.

The UN resolution, passed late on Thursday, backed "all necessary measures" to protect civilians, short of an occupation.

Good move , now the UN will have to look for WMD

I bet I know which side the chap sent home from scotland to Libya to die is fighting on!!!

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Turns out she likes this dentist, who has a "conserve it at all costs" type of approach to his work and has every confidence in him. She likes his whole approach to his work and he wasn't the one who treated the molar previously. So she is going ahead with what he suggests.

Also, apparently isn't going to cost 600 but nearer to 500.

(Hmmm? That's a relief then. Cough cough)

Joking aside, she often says about the odd thing we talk about, "Dad, I'd rather have root canal treatment, etc, etc."

She's now got her wish about to come true, eh? Poor thing.

Yes , and have you noticed how things have gone from bad to worst after T Blair became a middle east peace envoy. BTW were is he ?

greekman - 18 Mar 2011 13:29 - 10801 of 81564

Whilst I feel that something must and should be done to protect and assist those Libyans who appose Gaddafi, why is it yet again the UK taking the lead with assistance from France.
As this is mainly an Arab problem why is the lead not being taken by Bahrain and Egypt. Both have a large modern air force that could easily take care of the Libyan air force.
Egypt has the largest air force in the Arab world, with 550 modern aircraft.
Bahrain has 100 assorted aircraft with many very modern fighters.
Also there would be far less criticism of one Arab country on another Arab country.

Notice Germany and Italy do not want to become involved, so much for UN solidarity.

In any enforcement of a no-fly zone there will be so called collateral damage. I don't give it long until, we are yet again the bad guys, hated by both sides.
This will, I am sure come back to bite us.
Don't we ever learn.

Its about time the UK realised we are no longer the rich big uncle who can solve all problems.

Interesting price for dental work.

Wait for 6 years and see the price of emergency medical treatment and cold other surgery.

But privatisation is the way to go and medical schools are now asking for a degree in Business studies as a necessary qualification on application forms.

My dentist isn't doing very and can only afford to change his Mercedes and Porch on alternate years.

aldwickk - 18 Mar 2011 15:09 - 10804 of 81564

Why does he have to change his porch , as it got dry rot ?
