THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

There'll always be an England,
While there's a country lane.
Wherever there's a cottage small
Beside a field of grain
There'll always be an England
While there's a busy street.
Wherever there's a turning wheel
A million marching feet.

Red, white and blue
What does it mean to you?
Surely you're proud
Shout it loud
Britons awake!
The Empire too
We can depend on you.
Freedom remains
These are the chains
Nothing can break.

There'll always be an England
And England shall be free
If England means as much to you
As England means to me.

Slower than forecast growth and lack of fiscal control could put AAA standing in doubt

By CFOWorld.co.uk | CFO UK | Published 11:20, 24 March 11

The credit rating agency Moodys has raised concerns about Britains AAA sovereign debt rating, suggesting that a relative lack of economic growth and slower than hoped fiscal consolidation could pose problems.

Forecasts for growth in the UK economy this year were trimmed by the governments independent Office for Budget Responsibility this week and by Moodys a little earlier in the piece, with the latter now stressing the importance of bringing down the deficit in a timely fashion.

Question:

How do you tell the difference between a British Police Officer, an Australian Police Officer and an American Police Officer?

Answer:
Pose the following question:

You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children.
Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges.

You are carrying a Glock .40, and you are a firearms-trained expert shot.

You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

BRITISH POLICE OFFICER'S Answer :

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!

Does the man look poor or oppressed?

Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?

Could we run away?

What does my wife think?

What about the kids?

Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?

What does the law say about this situation?

Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?

Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?

Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?

Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?

If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?

Should I call 999?

If I raise my gun and he turns and runs away, do I get blamed if he falls over, knocks his head and kills himself? .

If I shoot him, and I lose the court case, does he have the opportunity to sue me, cost me my job, my credibility and the loss of my family home?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AUSTRALIAN OFFICER'S Answer:

BANG!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMERICAN OFFICER'S Answer:

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! 'click'....

Daughter: 'Nice grouping, Dad! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips?'

AND WHAT DOES THIS STORY TELL US ABOUT THE STATE OF BRITAIN TODAY? ................

WE CAN DO NOTHING! WE CAN SAY NOTHING! WE ARE ......... NOTHING!

OUR BRITISH WAY OF LIFE IS NO MORE IT HAS DISINTEGRATED.

WE CANNOT BE OURSELVES AS WE USED TO BE BEFORE BRUSSELS.

WE HAVE BEEN PUT DOWN AND DROWNED BY HUMAN RIGHTS LEGISLATION ... SILLY LEGISLATION.

WHITE IS BECOMING THE MINORITY IN OUR OWN LAND.

CHRISTIANITY IS BECOMING THE MINORITY IN OUR OWN LAND.

WE WALK ON EGGSHELLS FOR FEAR OF OFFENDING OTHERS IN OUR OWN LAND.

THE GOOD, HONEST, UPRIGHT CITIZENS HAVE LITTLE OR NO RIGHTS

THE BAD, DISHONEST COWARDS IN OUR SOCIETY HAVE ALL THE RIGHTS.

WHAT CAN WE DO? WHAT CAN WE DO? WHAT ARE WE TO DO?

beebusy - 26 Mar 2011 07:40 - 10828 of 81564

greekman - 27 Mar 2011 18:03 - 10830 of 81564

This is me,

Is your post far fetched. Nah.
OK perhaps just a bit.

As a police trained firearms officer (now retired thank goodness) you would not believe just how restricted we were then and it must be far worse now.

rawdm999 - 01 Apr 2011 11:46 - 10831 of 81564

I have been trying to arrange my car tax online for 3 days to be given the message they don't have record of the cars insurance, which normally takes 24hrs to appear on their register. Funnily/cynically enough, I haven't been given the same message this morning but the disc has cost me more than it would have yesterday.

Getting pretty fed up bending over for the sharks so maybe its time to emmigrate!

rawdm999 - 01 Apr 2011 11:47 - 10832 of 81564

Will the last person out, please turn off the lights!

Isaacs - 01 Apr 2011 14:26 - 10833 of 81564

You think there are no sharks in other countries? They are still there but just a different species.

rawdm999 - 01 Apr 2011 15:14 - 10834 of 81564

Ahh! but that depends on how you set up your affairs and where you are happy to go to do some shark fishing.

Isaacs - 01 Apr 2011 15:31 - 10835 of 81564

Good luck. I have lived in a few countries and everywhere has its problems. The grass is always greener somewhere else.

rawdm999

Same here.

You obviously haven't seen the message on the DVLA web site, which says

With regards to your query about whether the car insurance renewal information has been freshly posted from your insurance company:

'Do not check this site within 24 hours or you will still get a negative result."

Our vehicle is insured with the Post Office. At renewal time they say, "There is no need for you to do anything. Your policy will be automatically renewed on the policy expiry date and the payment will be taken from "details of bank or card".

So that's nice, isn't it?

Except that this is no use whatsoever to assist you to purchase a Road Tax certificate for the vehicle on the DVLA web site!!!! To do this you have to have the insurance info' sent to the DVLA by your insurance company.

It's all too 'last minute'!!

Aaargh!!
