Heading for support at c1000p.

The market is flagging some poor numbers on the 27th, but it may now already be in the price, any thoughts?
Shares which zig-zag side-ways make me a little aprehensive?

i ought to lose patience with POG but on this one i am obstinate and continue to hold though the signals say SELL

cynic, they have already down-graded their guidance, the share has already corrected, is cheap on cash flow, at this price people are fearful but there is a chance that the 27th will not be as bad as people expect.

Fairfax note out seems OK.

Petropavlovsk gold production up 51% in Q4

Russian-focused miner Petropavlovsk Plc said its total attributable gold production for 2010 was up 4% at 506,800oz, with fourth-quarter production rising by around 51% to 202,200oz.

Gold sold by the group, excluding joint ventures, in 2010 was 445,500oz, against the 2009 figure of 438,200oz. Average realised price increased by 29% to $1,253/oz from $975/oz.

Petropavlovsk said its conservative base case scenario for attributable gold production for 2011 was currently estimated at 600,000oz, representing an increase of about 18% over 2010.

It expected to benefit from cash flows attributable to at least 600,000 oz of gold sales in 2011.

Chairman Peter Hambro, 'We look confidently into 2011 when our fourth gold mine, Albyn, is expected to make its first contribution to the group's gold production.

'Construction works at the Albyn site, which is one of the most prospective assets of the group, are advancing well and we are currently on track to commission the c1.6-2m tonnes per year first-stage plant in H2 2011.

'Exploration works are ongoing and the group has acquired two additional prospective licences nearby.

'In 2010, the group was also successful in the acquisition of a number of licences in the Amur, Krasnoyarsk and Jewish Autonomous regions. We look forward to exploring these prospective assets in due course.'

New JORC reserves and resource numbers were expected to be announced in March.

Shares were up 28p at 1060p.

CP - i already hold (1089), but the chart is scarcely encouraging and gold is still decidedly lacklustre ..... if sp were close to 10.00, then perhaps a stronger case for buying

The good thing, at least I hope, is that the gold price having dropped by over $100 an ounce is now near the 200 day moving average. In the past 18 months ,whenever this has happened, the gold price has always rebounded strongly. I'm expecting this time to be the same,though I shan't be betting my shirt on it (maybe just my pullover!)
Current political tensions,especially in the Arab world must be positive (for the price of the yellow stuff!)

The price of gold spiked up by $23. yesterday ($1,335.)

CP - pretty special circumstances made this sharp recovery inevitable would you not agree ..... certainly nothing to do with "real" demand and whether or not the recovery will continue or fade once things settle down in egypt, remains to be seen

haven't had a chance to read the paper yet, but "iranian situation" in what respect? ..... takeover by the fundamentalists? ..... if so, how does this fit in with the current scenario?

Other countries in the region will obviously be taking note on what is going on. Unfortunately,too,there is no quick fix.
Egypt , I suppose is somewhat different from most others in the region, in that the racial mix is rather more diverse. The problems ,though, are the same for everybody.
So, some sort of quick solution is needed to reduce the unrest. Getting rid of Mubarak would be a good start.
