New Scientist magazine has for many years run stories on a wide range of new technologies, examining the scientific aspects to these technologies, and the commercial opportunities that they present.

What catches my eye is that they currently seem to be quite early in reporting innovations by young UK small cap companies - often they get wind of where things are heading before the stockmarket even begins to understand the issues.

This post is not intended as a subscription drive for a magazine - far from it. What I'm interested in finding out is whether any other posters take in industry or academic journals specifically to look for investment ideas.

I'm also keen to discuss some of the new technologies as they are featured in New Scientist or other leading and popular science journals.

I think most of the more discerning ones will have their nose in the National Enquirer...at least to find out which drugs are the most popular selling amongst celebrities....

Lets not forget that there's plenty more to technology than biotechs!

Kayak made reference to a company earlier who have developed a new means of pumping fluids using steam. This new technology is set to revolutionise industries that rely heavily on pumping - oil & mining, water treatment, food processing, textiles, paper processing to name but a few. He's a smart biscotti, that Kayak.

Excelent feature article. The technology sure impressed the science journalists that saw it in operation. And these are guys who see new inventions every day of the week, every week of the year.

Both fascinating to read and serendipitous that they should run this feature so shortly after we started to discuss the magazine.

I have been an avid reader of New Scientist magazine for over 5 years now.

It is very interesting on its own merits and can get a little too technical for the non scientists among us, but given the tech/biotech stocks that I play/have played with in the past, I find it helps to give me a good general grounding in much of the science involved.

The problem is that they take up a lot of room to store if you have subscribed for a few years.
