cynic NVTA has a market cap of around 50m and is aiming to produce 500klbs of tantulum at $90 per lb, and their mine is in a remote part of Mozambique. Sounds pretty risky as a pure commodity play.

Mozambique, nice place, was there during the floods in 2000. Once hyped as the alternative 'bread basket' of South Africa following the demise of Zimbabwe. Not sure if it ever lived up to the hype?

Actually, that's quite close to the truth, lol, but not a story for public consumption; maybe during a round of golf in the new year :)

Morning Richard. I rather suspect the MMs wouldnt have found this quite so easy to walk down at any other time of the year. With the likelihood the CPR etc wouldn't be updated until the new year, I suppose it's an easy opportunity to bank some cheap shares. I bit the bullet with my top up at 386p, fortunately the other four positions compensated nicely, although still annoying.
I don't think there has been a RNS announcing institutional buys of those director shares (yet) so it's beginning to look as if they ended up in the Market.

DD5, if you think XEL have just discovered oil you need to crank up your research!

cynic, its end of the tax year in Canada (31st Dec), its the illiquid low volume Christmas break and also the AIM lemmings want to lose their money more quickly, so are putting their profits into high risk punts.......
Things will return back to normal next week...........

thanks for the comfort guys, though even my little brain knows it is flapping a bit for nothing .... interesting comment of yours Mr P re Canadian tax year, and of course the observation about low volume (and very wide individual MM spreads) I made myself yesterday ............ but i'm not brave enough to buy even more!

TSX is the baby partner in XEL's dual listing. The bulls discount the SP falls in Canada when it suits them and talk it up when it rises, quite funny really - remember SOLA's ADRs.

Would you rather be in XEL or AFR?
I hold XEL and looking to add AFR to my ISA but don't want too many risky plays [remainder of ISA are blue chip income generators and whilst not entirely risk free, i got lucky and sold BP before they tanked, they are slightly less risky].
so i am trying to decide if i can live with both or just stick to one? and Which one?
my other risky ISA plays are NYO, RMM, LLOY, & RBS[the latter two bought in the vain hope that the banking system will eventually sort it self out]

i happily hold both .... any oil stock carries inherent risk for all sorts of reasons ..... i suspect that AFR will be the steadier and it is certainly more open and liquid to trade than XEL
that said, your choice of NYO and RMM (in particular) are very strange indeed if risk causes concern ..... to my mind, i think it's a no-brainer - hold both AFR and XEL and dump either RMM and/or NYO ..... LLOY and RBS will both stay alive, but not a sector i view with any enthusiasm

Hmm, wondering if that's the gap filled, certainly got close to 320 early this morning. Difficult in thin markets to be sure, time will tell.

Closed up 9% in Canada, so not far away from 3.70 UK price.
The Canadians have stopped their year end tax selling, AIM holders have stopped their lemming like muppet selling, and the 1st trading day of New Year is now just a half trading day away.
Looking good..........
