Damp, dull and boring here also Spacie so you're not missing anything.
Sending over a Guinness :>)

Fundamentalist - 18 Oct 2006 10:40 - 11522 of 24230

Morning all

nice foggy start in oxfordshire this am.

finally got my laptop back from toshiba (the hard drive died) and now it wont connect to my wireless network - has to be said their customer service has been awful

optomistic - 18 Oct 2006 10:52 - 11523 of 24230

Morning folks,
Fundy info like that is worth making a note of for when it comes to replacement time. Good service is worth a lot.

stockbunny - 18 Oct 2006 10:53 - 11524 of 24230

Sorry about the laptop Fundy - Guinness all round then for you guys :>)

Fundamentalist - 18 Oct 2006 10:58 - 11525 of 24230

Opto

this is the replacement for the previous laptop that broke so theyre way down the list when it comes to replacement. Taken them 2 weeks to replace a hard drive and return the laptop. Refused to try to restore the data from the previous hard drive and charged a deposit of 200 for me to have my old hard drive for a month to try and get the data recovered myself

disgusted of oxfordshire !!!!!

bunny - thanks for the guiness :-)

Fundamentalist - 18 Oct 2006 11:00 - 11526 of 24230

btw their call centre is in the far east - like pulling teeth to get anywhere with them - when i asked if i could take the laptop somewhere for repair rather than it being collected (i rightly assumed this would speed the process up) they told me to take it to Glasgow ffs

optomistic - 18 Oct 2006 11:03 - 11527 of 24230

Toshiba is definately off the 'consideration' list, thanks Fundy and hope you get everything resolved eventually.

Fundamentalist - 18 Oct 2006 11:11 - 11528 of 24230

the frustrating this is, i really like the laptop itself, just not reliable enough and awful customer service

pretty much getting the machine back how i want it now, just got to find someone who can recover the old hard disk now

stockbunny - 18 Oct 2006 11:29 - 11529 of 24230

I thought you had already had problems with a Toshiba laptop a while back, so this is the replacement, geesh what a performance for you :>(
Heard a lot of horrir stories about laptops, from battery problems to overheating, so not rushing to convert from my desktop standard computer. I can live with not being able to work on the move thankfully LOL

Spaceman - 18 Oct 2006 14:46 - 11530 of 24230

I like Tosh laptops they are well built and perform fairly well and the price isnt bad. Mine has been fine since I bought in in Australia last xmas. But I understand the concerns if you need support, I would not even bother speaking to them and I would fix it myself.

On the whole I am not a fan of laptops they are to compromised and expensive, I only use mine when I am away from home.

Fundy re your data, it may be hard to get anything much off without paying good money, it depends on how badly damaged it is. One thing that you might think of trying is mounting it under Linux and seeing if you can recover anything that way.
