Opto
this is the replacement for the previous laptop that broke so theyre way down the list when it comes to replacement. Taken them 2 weeks to replace a hard drive and return the laptop. Refused to try to restore the data from the previous hard drive and charged a deposit of 200 for me to have my old hard drive for a month to try and get the data recovered myself
disgusted of oxfordshire !!!!!
bunny - thanks for the guiness :-)

btw their call centre is in the far east - like pulling teeth to get anywhere with them - when i asked if i could take the laptop somewhere for repair rather than it being collected (i rightly assumed this would speed the process up) they told me to take it to Glasgow ffs

Toshiba is definately off the 'consideration' list, thanks Fundy and hope you get everything resolved eventually.

I thought you had already had problems with a Toshiba laptop a while back, so this is the replacement, geesh what a performance for you :>(
Heard a lot of horrir stories about laptops, from battery problems to overheating, so not rushing to convert from my desktop standard computer. I can live with not being able to work on the move thankfully LOL

I like Tosh laptops they are well built and perform fairly well and the price isnt bad. Mine has been fine since I bought in in Australia last xmas. But I understand the concerns if you need support, I would not even bother speaking to them and I would fix it myself.
On the whole I am not a fan of laptops they are to compromised and expensive, I only use mine when I am away from home.
Fundy re your data, it may be hard to get anything much off without paying good money, it depends on how badly damaged it is. One thing that you might think of trying is mounting it under Linux and seeing if you can recover anything that way.

some of us would a great deal more damage if they tried to repair it themselves :-)

Hello one and all. Lots to read here tonight, from laptops to the weather. I'm not sold on laptops myself, seen too many folk with problems. We have some where I work and they get a bit of a bashing so it is surprising they last as well as they do.
Only make we use is Acer, one chap even went out and bought the Ferrari version (no, I'm not kidding). He loves it and has no problems, but he is a careful sort of chap and would be very careful not to bash it or drop it in a bowl of sherry trifle.
Must check my profiterole now and see if I have made any money today.

Evening all,
Just got to the hotel and I have eaten 2 packets of crisps and 2 chocolate bars, I now find these cost 12 Euros !
So having blown my eating budget I though I would pop in to the coffee shop for a nice plate of spuds and onions with a side order of fish fingers. If the Times is to be believed I think I need to get another container load of fish fingers in the freezer here before fish is banned.
