Indeed indeed but Im always up on that going for the further out contract.

I also know sticky Cyners you do very well with derivatives.

I remember your first 2 years on here where you blew everyone out of the water and thats the truth folks, Cynic was red hot.

I always say this, you never stop learning on the stock market and I have to thankyou for your input in which I have learned a lot. Im so greatful.

Thanks Cyners.

david lucas - 26 Oct 2013 09:47 - 1155 of 2763

GF
What SB company do you use? I mainly use CFD's or buy the shares if I want to hold for any length of time. I have a account with T1PS from the old day!

goldfinger - 26 Oct 2013 10:45 - 1156 of 2763

Ig Index David.

Cant go wrong. Really helpfull, not only that but they are on twitter and you can interact directly with them their and get things sorted out immediatly.

All you need is a an old banged up pc like mine and you just register.

A lot think they have to have an expensive smart phone........not so.

Brilliant talking to all the big boy analysts from the big brokers.

cheers GF.

I use Capital Spreads mainly as my spread bet provider. And nearly always use quarterly contracts, advantage being a one off charge is built into the spread. I have a rule that if the spread is more than four pips I don't trade that stock via a spread bet. This is rare because Caps generally only allow stocks from Ftse 100 - 350.

The only time I would use daily rolling bets is :-

Day trading Ftse or Dow, which is rare, only one pip spread on UKX and Dow.

When I have taken a profit to early, or been stopped out usually close to a results date and misjudged more upside.

Ideally and this will apply when I retire and if I decide to trade full time. Is to use a platform that allows direct market access. For several years now been quite happy because it suits my lifestyle, to use the above. Allows me to trade shares that I own or otherwise up or down, treat it as a hobby and enjoy doing so. Hope this helps.

Many thanks GF for your help. Will register with them on Monday!!
Have a good weekend everyone!

david lucas - 26 Oct 2013 11:37 - 1159 of 2763

Thank you also Chris!

goldfinger - 26 Oct 2013 12:01 - 1160 of 2763

Chris C brilliant take on spread betting.

For some reason traders/investors go bonkers when they open a SB account.

Totaly mad.

Use it just like a normal broker account.

OK you get about 8* times rounded normal leverage but it keeps you in control.

Remember this Ill always take a good manger of accounts
than the flyboys like advfn who reckon they hAVE THE NEXT 10 BAGGER

Chris Carson - 26 Oct 2013 12:37 - 1161 of 2763

Absolutely gf, well done on the Elementis trade by the way :O)

cynic - 26 Oct 2013 16:47 - 1162 of 2763

i concur that the IG guys are really good and helpful to work with .... their L2 platform is very good too .....

sticky - is there similar for s/b - i.e. live prices? .... when i was using s/b, there was no such thing

goldfinger - 27 Oct 2013 15:43 - 1163 of 2763

Yep Brill. Ive got both but like SBs more tnan CFDS.

goldfinger - 27 Oct 2013 15:46 - 1164 of 2763

Cheers Chris. It amazing but true eveytime this company reports it goes up 10%.

Make a note in the diary.

cynic - 27 Oct 2013 16:50 - 1165 of 2763

Looking at technicals the SP as hit September
support. The RSI backs this up. April 2012 support hit aswel.

Certainly looks well oversold.

as i have been saying for while, mining has been in the doldrums far too long, but with world economies recovering nicely, the demand for base commodities will also improve

that's exactly why i bought into RIO about 10 days ago
