THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Tyk.

Me and My Dad.

Fred1new - 05 Aug 2011 12:53 - 11952 of 81564

How many of you didn't believe in Father Christmas?

Haystack - 05 Aug 2011 13:09 - 11953 of 81564

I didn't.

The important bit is that when the believers grew up they stopped believing in FC.

The bible is just a hotch potch of various texts all written quite a while after JC was dead. Before Paul, the Christians believed in quite a harsh god involving mainly punishment. Paul softened it all up. Before Paul's revelation on the road to Damascus, he was a sort of enterpreneur and general conman. He was known locally as 'Paul the liar' and was dedicated to the persecution of the early disciples of Jesus in the area of Jerusalem.

My guess is that he found some way to make some money out of Christianity. Before he came along Christianity was going nowhere and he gave it a direction and developed most of its beliefs. A lot of what Christians now regard as the teachings of JC were invented by Paul. It was Paul that defined Christianity as separate from Judaeism. Up to that point Christians were a sub sect of Judaeism.

Christianity has always changed to suits itself with little regard to anything fundamental. There were originally married priests, even the some of the popes had wives and children.

The best excuse for anything that goes wrong in this world, is 'Its gods will'.

Those 3 words must be the best get out ever and are always used by believers when they are either stuck for a decent answer or just can't explain why bad things happen.

Another point.......The church is one of the richest organisations in the world and that alone makes them hypocrites when they preach all that bumf of better to give than to receive.

ExecLine - 05 Aug 2011 13:53 - 11955 of 81564

Life begins when you die - but only if you belong to OUR church.

Q. Who says this?

A. All religious leaders.

And it's all mixed up with a dose of 'good morality' to make it look and sound good.

My advice?

Strip out as much mysticism and any other false casues from your thinking processes and try to deal as much as you can with the reality of situations.

ie.

Don't rely on 'God' or 'Luck' or any other mystic crap.

In only 8 words:

There cannot be a God because existence exists.

Bear in mind that Good/Bad Luck is what people seem to have had when they look back. The best way to get good fortune is to work hard and thoroughly and try to create it for yourself by the avoidance of potential mishap.

Try to treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. That way, you get to sleep better at night. And there's more.....

I do like how it's put in this 'message from the grave'.

Fred1new - 05 Aug 2011 13:54 - 11956 of 81564

Hays.

Beginning to realise what you substituted for God.

Ps,

There are still married priests in the Christian Church and even Monks can have children "openly".

Fred1new - 05 Aug 2011 13:58 - 11957 of 81564

Although, having been on the other side of the grave more than once, I never received any useful information from the experience!

Stan - 05 Aug 2011 14:19 - 11958 of 81564

H/S, Paul? Paul who?

Haystack - 05 Aug 2011 14:28 - 11959 of 81564

Saint Paul, who wrote a large part of the New Testament.

ExecLine - 05 Aug 2011 14:33 - 11960 of 81564

'Life begins when you die'

But not at this particular Christian church

ahoj - 05 Aug 2011 14:44 - 11961 of 81564

Shall we lose our current life based on a hope for life after death?
Live nice and enjoy your life while you know you are alive.

BTW, I believe in life after death, but I don't waste a minute of my life for that!

aldwickk - 05 Aug 2011 14:52 - 11962 of 81564

If you Google what was before God , one of the answers is something along the line's that God wasn't created he is always there because he is a spirit

Also try , what was God doing before he created the Universe

ahoj - 05 Aug 2011 14:58 - 11963 of 81564

Why should I bother? Many good things can be done with direct benefit to the community than thinking about what God was doing or plans to do.

Can I help him? NO, so why bother

He could prevent the Tsunami in Japan though!!!

aldwickk - 05 Aug 2011 15:07 - 11964 of 81564

" He could prevent the Tsunami in Japan though! "

Did he tell you that ?

Haystack - 05 Aug 2011 15:08 - 11965 of 81564

How could he when he doesn't exist.

ExecLine - 05 Aug 2011 15:25 - 11966 of 81564

Bit of a crap design though, for the giraffe's laryngeal nerve.

Watch Richard Dawkins use the route this nerve follows in the neck to prove that this must have occurred through 'evolution' rather than through the good design of any kind of creator:

ExecLine - 05 Aug 2011 15:44 - 11967 of 81564

If you want to watch/listen to more from Richard Dawkins, then try:

http://bigthink.com/richarddawkins

There's a full 34 min interview and there are links on the page breaking the interview into small chunks.

Also try Christopher Hitchens ranting about the Catholic Church

Fred1new - 05 Aug 2011 18:08 - 11968 of 81564

Hays,

Father Christmas "I didn't."

You probably had to buy your own!

aldwickk - 05 Aug 2011 18:30 - 11969 of 81564

'evolution' doesn't disprove any kind of creator:, because the process of evolution could have been started by a kind of creator .

Haystack - 05 Aug 2011 19:33 - 11970 of 81564

Ah yes, the latest god ploy - Intelligent Design. The god freaks have given up on denying Darwinism as it is so patently obvious. Now they are coming up with a new slant. What happened to the previous doctrine? Was it just because it was so obviously untrue?

The creationists set the beginning of creation variously at between 10 thousand and 25 thousand years ago. As that theory is looking a bit worse for wear they are trying to get on the evolution bandwagon.
