Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Rumours were also doing the rounds in the city this morning that BP might be running their eyes over RKH if the GoM is blocked off it would be a natural replacement for exploration.

This appears to be more wishful thinking than hard rumour.

cynic - 27 May 2010 13:12 - 1210 of 6294

what is "hard rumour"?

cynic - 27 May 2010 13:14 - 1211 of 6294

thanks hali ..... i think the news would need to be pretty disastrous for sp to fall TO 100, but may well fall BY 100 if news is not good and solid

HARRYCAT - 27 May 2010 13:26 - 1212 of 6294

BP rumour was quashed in it's infancy! Some journalist trying to make a name for himself!

cynic - 27 May 2010 13:31 - 1213 of 6294

he likes to be known as Stupid Arsehole one assumes ..... Mr Arsehole in formal circumstances, and please do not take that pun any further at all!

cynic - 27 May 2010 13:47 - 1214 of 6294

Mr Blackdown has gone very quiet ..... perhaps he's put his head in a bucket of sulphuric

Anyone else picking on the vibes that a 'placing' for cash has been ruled out ?

The vibe certainly is that there will be no placing and that "farm ins" will be the route for appraisal of the finds. If this turns out to be true I will be very happy, a placing now would allow manipulation of the SP, short selling and all sorts of nasties.

A farm in is far better for shareholders and will realise more value for them.

Thats the good thing about RKH having 100% ownership. This will be excellent news for all shareholders if true.

cynic - 27 May 2010 14:48 - 1216 of 6294

just worth noting that for the first time in living memory, the bid book is stronger than the offer

aldwickk - 27 May 2010 15:01 - 1217 of 6294

If you had 100k to invest on the stockmarket what % would you invest in RKH

blackdown - 27 May 2010 15:26 - 1218 of 6294

Don't have a position at all and no sour grapes. Good luck to all investors who have taken the punt. Pending news, any rise has to be based on speculation hence the froth. It may well go to 5/10/15.

cynic - 27 May 2010 16:00 - 1219 of 6294

blackdown - wrong .... there is little or no speculation that RKH have made a decent find .... there is some speculation as to its size ..... 170mb looks to be the low consensus, but would concede that there will need to be more to the report than that to sustain or improve current sp

aldwickk - anything more than 5%, or for the risk-happy perhaps 7.5% would be very brave given the small size of the pot indicated

blackdown - 27 May 2010 16:43 - 1220 of 6294

Cynic,

I bow to your undoubted greater knowledge of this stock.

cynic - 27 May 2010 16:57 - 1221 of 6294

no great knowledge, but i have now been following it for a little while and most certainly should not complain with the result so far - and no, i shall not forget to bank partial profits as 50p banked is infinitely preferable to 1.00 lost

halifax - 27 May 2010 17:47 - 1222 of 6294

cynic sold sufficient to cover the cost of the original investment, does one become greedy and hold the rest or sell a %age to realise some profit if so what %age, that is the question.

cynic - 27 May 2010 18:01 - 1223 of 6294

i have sold a little batch i bought yesterday and shall probably offload some more tomorrow, but certainly not all ..... to some extent, i shall consider my pain threshhold in the event of disappointment - i.e. if i reckon sp could drop BY 100 if rns does not live up to hype, how much do i want to risk losing

don't forget monday is a bank holiday here but nowhere else, and my (total) guess is that the rns will come out after market close tomorrow or say 07:00 on tuesday

aldwickk - 27 May 2010 18:14 - 1224 of 6294

Cynic,

Thats ok then , i only invested about 4% ......

HARRYCAT - 27 May 2010 18:16 - 1225 of 6294

aldwickk - My own opinion is now I would risk about 10% (as have already banked some profit), but the question is how much would you be prepared to lose if the news is not good? If you invested 100k would you risk losing 40%+ ?

aldwickk - 27 May 2010 18:30 - 1226 of 6294

Don't you mean 4% , i would risk losing nearly all of the 4,000

cynic - 27 May 2010 19:10 - 1227 of 6294

what makes you think RKH are worth f**k all even if the rns is disappointing? ...... and of course, at what price did you buy? .... if you bought today at say >235/240, then you were silly, though for sure we know, or at least i am 99% certain that we do, that sealion is not a duster

required field - 27 May 2010 20:52 - 1228 of 6294

The well is a success, that's not a doubt....but it's just one well and a heck of a lot of capital is needed in those rough seas to develop the asset....they will need further appraisal wells to come to grips with the size of the discovery, now how do you put a price on this stock...?, it reacts with sentiment and perhaps that's the way to play the falkies now and in the future....one step at a time.....there is going to be 2 months wait at least until they spud another well so you can bet that a lot of profit taking is coming, a lot !.....this might prevent a significant jump in the sp with people ready to jump on the sell button....hoping to bail out at the top....will the sp remain high once the next rns is issued : I doubt it....they would have to prove a billion barrels or so for it to go up to 400p.....
