SEFTON RESOURCES INC - UNDERRATED OIL PRODUCER (SER)

ptholden - 04 Aug 2006 19:53

???

Sefton Resources is an independent AIM quoted Oil and Gas company operating in the US. The companys principal current assets are two producing oilfields in California (Tapia Canyon Field and Eureka Canyon Field); it is also in the process of buying up prospective coal bed methane acreage (CBM) in Kansas.

Update from July 2007 AGM

Finance

I revealed in my annual statement that discussions were well advanced with
Banking institutions. The final phase of the agreement with a suitable bank
without complex and restrictive terms is now very near. This is weeks away
rather than months.

Oil

Oil production at Tapia has averaged 4,100 BO during the last five months. Which
is in line with last years levels. Once this finance is in place we will be able
to move ahead with drilling.

Drilling

We have stayed close to drilling contractors and we are ready to move forward
quickly when this finance is available.

Steam generation

The equipment is now in place at Tapia. Preparation time is needed to connect
the equipment and carry out the necessary trials required to get the main work
started. We anticipate this steaming will start in the next couple of months. If
successful a significant amount of oil resources will move into the Proven
Producing Reserves category.

Joint Ventures

Discussions continue with a number of interested parties to develop our Anderson
counties gas assets.

New finance team

A new CFO has been appointed with good knowledge and experience of the oil
industry. A new assistant to undertake all the daily needs has also been
appointed.

SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS:

Sefton has two oil fields, both producing. One is already profitable, and the other is breaking even. This should generate good cashflow for the company over the medium term.
Sefton owns 100% of both its major oil interests and is now demerging its non-controlled oil interests in order to concentrate on those where it has full control (Sefton has recently disposed of its Canadian assets for CDN450k cash).
Sefton is establishing a track record of using modern extraction technologies to improve the efficiency of its fields.

WEAKNESSES:

Sefton has suffered from a number of one-off factors. While these were out of the companys control the problems it has faced since 2002 have held back development and taken up management time. Investor disenchantment may account for the current low rating.

OPPORTUNITIES:

Sefton has acquired acreage for CBM (coal bed methane) in Kansas. CBM gas production is a thriving market and Sefton believes it has acquired the acreage at advantageous prices. While this is a longer term prospect it is an exciting one and could eventually eclipse the oil interests.
There are a number of other fields in the Ventura Basin and more generally in California as a whole that Sefton may look to target now its cash flows are stronger.
Eureka is a semi-exploration play which may contain further upside. This cannot yet be evaluated.
At this valuation the company may prove an attractive target for a larger player.

THREATS

Owing to its geographical location the company continues to be exposed to the threat of bush fires, canyon floods and geological interruption (earthquake risk). Sefton is taking steps to mitigate this risk by investing in Kansas and although Forest Basin area is susceptible to tornados - gas facilities have a minimal surface footprint.

SECRUOSER I agree, exciting times ahead for SER as well as some other oilies I hold. Capetown the sp moved before, it was just in the wrong direction, I hope those times are behind SER now. Good luck all.

So do i George, however this is where we are at untill we get more news .7.25

SECRUOSER - 09 Nov 2007 15:20 - 1245 of 2350

Luckily the next news is quite likely to be as soon as next week (Steaming starts) and the drilling should be finished before the end of the month (3 weeks max) so I expect interest to keep quite high.

There are also some investors and traders who will avoid buying initially on news and instead wait for the price to settle before taking their position. I think interest will remain high and the sp fairly active.

capetown - 09 Nov 2007 15:36 - 1246 of 2350

As i predicted this morning when the sp was 8.25,we would end the day @7 with a 15% spread,

SECRUOSER - 09 Nov 2007 15:38 - 1247 of 2350

We've still got an hour to go yet capetown?

capetown - 09 Nov 2007 15:51 - 1248 of 2350

I hope i am wrong,i hold this sgare and want to see it rocket.

SECRUOSER - 09 Nov 2007 15:53 - 1249 of 2350

Still, a 24% rise in the bid in one day is not to be sniffed at. A steady rise is preferrable to a huge spike and big sell-off imo.

Today will have got rid of plenty of stale bulls - thats less of them to sell out tomorrow etc and new holders will have bought in at higher prices. All good for an upward trend in the shareprice.

capetown - 09 Nov 2007 15:58 - 1250 of 2350

I agree,
Fantastic volume today, those who bought @8.50 will NOT be very happy right now.
Mms,are done with this for now i think,THEY are the ones who have made a killing today,NOT us.

Greyhound - 09 Nov 2007 15:59 - 1251 of 2350

Usual same old tricks by the looks and a lot taken the opportunity to get out. That's not to say it can still come good.

SECRUOSER - 09 Nov 2007 16:03 - 1252 of 2350

I'm glad weaker holders are getting out now and new holders have bought their shares off them - it means less drag on the sp in the future.

I'm not sure who these people are though (sellers at this price) as they clearly haven't kept up to date with the newsflow. Presumably people who wrote them off a long time ago and forgot about them, noticed a decent rise in the holding and just though great, lets get rid?

capetown - 09 Nov 2007 16:04 - 1253 of 2350

Greyhound,youre SPOT on there!!!
Tricks it is,insider dealing yesterday with the two 1 mill trades, they will be very happy!,
What possible reason is there to mark this down from 8.5 this am on todays volume and yesterdays news?,it really does my head in.

Greyhound - 09 Nov 2007 16:07 - 1254 of 2350

Possibly but some weaker holders have been in a long time. You could have stuck your money in plain old RIO and done a lot better. I might still like to get back in but I'm not convinced things have changed. Of course that would mean I'd miss out on some possible immediate rises but look what happened when we last got to 8p in the spring. Incidently Secruoser how long have you held?

SECRUOSER - 09 Nov 2007 16:08 - 1256 of 2350

If you look at the buy v sell volume, I can see why it has been marked down this pm. MM's marked it up quickly in the am to attract buying interest then marked it down as buyers dried up and sellers materialised. Notice they kept a wide spread in this latter stage which helps this scheme work. This is standard MM practice on good news. The trick is to try not to buy right at the top and if you do, don't sell out in panic when they start marking it down as that plays right into their hands.

The bottom line is THIS IS A BUY AND HOLD SHARE not a short-term traders share!!

SECRUOSER - 09 Nov 2007 16:09 - 1257 of 2350

Greyhound,

I bought my first shares in this in July 2005, so getting on for 2.5 years.

During that time I have gradually increased my holding waiting for the newsflow we are just starting to see starting now.

I haven't held and patiently accumulated all this time to even consider selling out for pathetic little gains.

capetown - 09 Nov 2007 16:09 - 1258 of 2350

Greyhound, bet you will be able to buy back in @ 6-----7,before next news

SECRUOSER - 09 Nov 2007 16:12 - 1259 of 2350

That depends on the timing of the next news capetown, which could be early next week and also whether bigger (smarter) new investors start to buy in next week before things progress further.

Yes he might have a chance of buying in around 7p or below if he's lucky and I hope he does.

capetown - 09 Nov 2007 16:16 - 1260 of 2350

Mm,s you robbing ????

Greyhound - 09 Nov 2007 16:16 - 1261 of 2350

Secruoser, I hope you took some profit though when the original Hardman report came out - that 12p+ day. I've tried to follow the thread since I've not been in, but will also endeavour to catch up. My problem was the management not seemingly making the progress that I wanted. I do like the CBM asset potential however.

Capetown, yes I've watched these moves so many times before which is why I'm reluctant.

Sorry for these double posts, damn pc.
