News Flash - Odd goimgs on at grand hospital opening ceremony.

During the opening ceremony at the new hospital, the Lord Mayor (LM) was making his speech and about to raise a loyal toast when it started to rain. His chauffeur was seen to produce an umbrella which he raised above the LM and opened it, whereupon the LM and the local dignatories were showered with little paper circles in abundance. Said paper circles blew widely in the wind and settled freely in the champagne glasses, adding a Christmassy feeling to the occassion.

The LM, taking exception to this occurrence, remonstrated with the chauffeur who quite reasonably took umbrage at the suggestion that he was remiss in his duties and suggested to the LM what disposal action might be taken with said umbrella.

The LM decided that a good rant was called for which was directed at the chauffeur who promptly demonstrated the practicality of his previously made suggestion.

The LM thereby obtained the dubious distinction of being the first casualty to be treated in the hospital's shiny new emergency facility. The LM, standing on his dignity (because he was unable to sit), refused further comment.

Meantime the chauffeur is missing but rumour has it that he is seeking political asylum in a foreign country.

Good morning all.

Just been informed that my TV/Broadband service from Telewest/NTL is to be called Virgin Media from now on, how come I didn't notice that going on? Looks like there may be some improvement to the service in the not too distant future.

Spaceman - 27 Jan 2007 09:41 - 12772 of 24230

Morning Socs, sounds as though the LM desereved it ;-)

Having been in, one must now go out. Hope it doesn't rain, can't get the nerve up to ask for my umbrella back. Not sure I want it after where it has been.

I have several worthless stocks but this is the first time I have recieved official confirmation.

MightyMicro - 29 Jan 2007 12:02 - 12786 of 24230

Oh, it's lunchtime. Crack open a bottle of the house claret and pour me a glass. Er, leave the bottle . . .

Socrates - 29 Jan 2007 12:15 - 12787 of 24230

Claret? Is that a posh word for red plonk?

stockbunny - 29 Jan 2007 12:20 - 12788 of 24230

I'm a confirmed cab sauv or shiraz cab drinker, anything more fancy then that is wasted on me LOL Mind you I do like burgundy and most really heavy red wines, needs lot of blackcurrentiness and a really dark colour for me.....BUT not drinking anything now, sticking to tea or I'll be shorting shorts and longing longs and other less then helpful decisions will be made LOL
