STORMCALLER - 28 Feb 2007 00:30 - 13353 of 24230

Hi all,

Sorry for flitting in and out recently, but everything is in the air for me at the moment, I hope you will understand.
Am going to do so again I'm afraid, but must say thank you for your thoughts.
Had "follow-up" long talk with my dad's medical team today, his condition is too far developed to give any real hope.
So am going to take a bottle of brandy, sit in the corner, and drink and cry myself to sleep..:-(((

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Stormy. I, like many others, have gone through a similar thing recently and it's not fun.

Depending on the way your mind works, you may find it helpful to distance yourself from the painful present and think in broader terms... With all their expertise, wishes, and thoughts, doctors and relatives cannot actually stop anyone from passing away, all they can hope to do is to delay the coming of the day. For me, it put the struggle into perspective. Make the most of his final days and focus on celebrating what came before.

Spaceman - 28 Feb 2007 08:14 - 13355 of 24230

Stormy, sorry to hear about your dad, my advice is the same as Kayaks, try and make the best of the time you have together.

Having to deal with this sort of thing is one of the things I hate most about getting older.

stockbunny - 28 Feb 2007 10:24 - 13356 of 24230

Stormy - big hug from us ladies and go easy on the brandy.

Nipping in quickly for a cuppa and a danish.......

BYee.....

jj50 - 28 Feb 2007 10:34 - 13357 of 24230

Morning.

Sorry Stormie - thoughts are with you.

Quick coffee and danish here too...

STORMCALLER - 28 Feb 2007 23:57 - 13358 of 24230

Hello, me again.

I wanted to drop by and say thank you for your thoughts, and indeed advice.
So up and down at the moment, I had a great day last Friday which was my leaving party at work, loads of people from my present and past made the effort to attend, which I regarded as a huge compliment, and it turned into a big reunion, My Dad was tickled pink when I told him about it....and yet now I feel sort of guilty.
Being the end of the month, today was my official departure, which should have been a celebration, I just feel flat...

Kayak,
Sage words indeed!, not sure I am quite capable of it yet but your final comment is spot-on, my Dad has always spoken of how much he has enjoyed his life, so with that in mind, and to help me a little, next time you are having a good time, spare a little thought for him, to celebrate his life!!!

Thank you again,

Regards

SC

Kayak - 01 Mar 2007 00:12 - 13359 of 24230

I certainly shall. Any man who dies thinking he's enjoyed his life must have been a good man.

STORMCALLER - 01 Mar 2007 00:43 - 13360 of 24230

Kayak,
He will, that is part of him.
And he is a good man, but I don't say that looking through rose-tinted spectacles...I recognise the weaknesses that make him human, and the strengths that make him a man!!

JStratford - 01 Mar 2007 11:41 - 13361 of 24230

Long time since I've stuck my head in, and thought I'd come and be cheered up, but seems that things are depressed enough in here, so I'll put the kettle on, leave a note for all the regulars saying hello, and sit in the corner.

optomistic - 01 Mar 2007 11:45 - 13362 of 24230

Morning JS make yourself comfortable and pop a log or two on the fire...no need to chop any more as we have a very good wood chopper around sometimes, mostly in the afternoon as he seems to need a lot of sleep :-)

JStratford - 01 Mar 2007 11:57 - 13363 of 24230

Morning opto... Doing my bit for the enviroment here, roaring fire and all the windows open letting that nice crisp spring air in.
