Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

If the initial reports are to be 300M barrels recoverable with potential for further larger upgrades after appraisal well, then, circa 1000p potential for the 300M and allow a decent discount, one Could, and I say could, suggest perhaps a 25M share placing at 400p to raise 100M pounds might be the news....... ?

Who knows, but it adds more to the story..........

Top of the pile is Sam Moody, the managing director of Rockhopper, the oil & gas explorer drilling off the Falklands Islands. Sam dug deep and spent just over 75,000 buying 242,980 shares at 31.25p in June last year.

Three other directors, including the chairman and finance director followed.

As the article states, No one knows their own company like a director.

Sam didn't dig that deep , 75,000 must be small change for him.

now that US is banning deep-sea exploration and drilling in all probability for the next several years, surely those companies who now have significant proven reserves will become even more important targets for predators.

many of you may like to think that this instantly applies to RKH, but of course it doesn't - at least not for now or even for some time, and that assumes the hype is borne out!

directors are as blind as the rest of us as to what lie's beneath.... they live in hope that all will come good..

I assume you are hoping AFR is on your target list cynic?

harry - no, though it is true that i hold AFR and have done so for some time on its own merits ..... i also hold GKP but their exploration is assuredly not deep sea! ...... CHAR looks a total flake to me, even though i hold solely on the basis of greed ...... DNX is certainly a possibility ..... i excluded TLW solely because it is now becoming pretty indigestible .... and yes of course i hold TLW, but again, have done so for some time and on its own merits

proselenes - significant relates to what reserves might be proven, and has no bearing at all on the share price

cynic what this rumour is trying to suggest is that institutional investors may be prepared to subscibe to a share placing at a price significantly higher than the present share price to fund the development of the oil find, which would mean Rockhopper would become a producer rather than just an exploration oily. Is that likely?

halfax, it will mean I am very happy as I purchased at a very low price and have said all along that this is grossly undervalued.

Others will be very unhappy as they sold at 90p and have been saying so vehemently that the price is too high.

A placing at a significant premium will leave me vindicated, and others looking very foolish, but thats life ;)

I agree Sam Moody is not skint, but he still would not invest that amount unless he believed it would make him a good return.
Also, as the article states, his buy was the highest of all director buys over that period.

I don't agree. Although there are numerous instances of directors buying their companies shares, and then the sp dropping, and visa versa, they have far more insight into their companies than us outsiders can ever have.
The main point might be that they know if/where any skeletons might be hiding.
So they are not quite as blind as the rest of us.
I agree we all live in hope that all will come good.

greek for those of us who bought sometime back it is already good now it is only a question of how much better it will become.

Halifax it can only getter better as the basin is proven to hold commercial oil and I think after we get the update confirming the size of the find the city will start to wake up and smell the coffee.

This is very early days of frontier drilling in the NFB but so far we have had 2 commercial gas finds and one of oil not bad when only 8 holes been drilled in total.

I hope RKH do raise more money and drill further targets and the back of there success as I think the Ocean Guardian will stay in the Falklands waters for another year or longer.

Ernest is a very exciting prospect since it has had CSEM

Once a successful appraisal of Sea Lion will potentially transform value of the company and all the other non drilled prospect will get a value put on them as well and potential partners who will come out of the wood work on the back of this next update.

During a brief run-down of the Geology of the North Falkland Basin in the tranches wher...................................

Farmouts will be be necessary or farmins......depending which way you look at it....and I'm hoping that a good size discovery is confirmed perhaps as early as tomorrow morning....the problem would be if they issue an rns going along the lines : more tests and confirmation with an appraisal well later on.....initial spike for the sp followed by heavy profit taking and a retreat in the sp.....we don't want that but it could happen...

Why don't we want that rf? I am happy to sell some once the RNS is released & buy back once the euphoria dies down. That's the idea of trading stock.

Well yes Harrycat....as long as we can catch the sp at the right time...
