IQE - Silicon is the future (IQE)

Master RSI - 03 Feb 2003 11:56

IQE is the leading global outsource supplier of customized epitaxial wafers to the semiconductor industry.

Their technology is of most advanced like AFM means Atomic Force Microscopy and moves a minuscule cantilever over an objects surface, a sharp tip passes over dips or rises punched in the surface and reads out digital information. This technology is not going to slow down it is going to speed up and has to replace most existing forms of memory storage by virtue of capacity and size.

The future of nano-technology, these tiny/minute robots would need very small processors and most sure strained silicon could provide these.

The low share price is due to uncertainty as to when the cash will run out, but I don't think this will happen as cash is of 12 to 15M and NAV of 30p, and losses are going to drop on the next 3 month and we could have profits on the Q4 2004.

Latest news from the Chairman were" The Group remains confident that it is in a strong position within the outsourcing market, although the protection of its cash position is paramount.
With a broad product portfolio allowing the customer base to use IQE as a 'one stop shop', a large available production capacity and a strong balance sheet, the Board believes the Group will benefit strongly as the overall semiconductor industry recovers and will continue to strengthen its position as the leading outsource supplier of advanced wafer products to the sector. "

Nearly all the recent results have been encouraging. Q4 accounts are being completed (30th Dec 2002). IQE know where they stand, if things had got worse their would have been a trading statement by now, and with Amberwave (IQE's partner) increasing its Asian presence, this is a bullish trend and a good point to pick up the shares @ 4.25p

The trouble with broker notes is that they never have any kind of time scale, so their target price probably doesn't consider any kind of short term movement.
The shorters were correct about CLLN. If the company is robust enough, the shorters will move on to seek out weaknesses elsewhere.

kimoldfield - 25 Jan 2018 12:01 - 1337 of 1520

Cash generation has never been one of IQE's strongpoints, I think this is part of the reason for shorting, let us hope this can be improved in future.

Have a look at latest broker views on the IQE page. buy , overweight or hold. last 30 days approx

cynic - 25 Jan 2018 12:50 - 1339 of 1520

perhaps the following is more interesting
it's just the opening para from 20/12

no mention of profits unfortuantely!

Trading on track to exceed full year expectations.
IQE plc (AIM: IQE, "IQE" or the "Group"), the leading global supplier of advanced wafer products and wafer services to the semiconductor industry, announces its pre-close trading update for the full year ending 31 December 2017.

The Group announces that it expects full year revenues to be ahead of market expectations, and to be not less than £150m for the year ending 31 December 2017. Wafer sales are on track to deliver strong double-digit growth in 2017 and to continue to diversify.

We can all see what happened with sp over past 10 days and this week which is a lot worse than FTSE performance.
Agree that potentially this share may become a hot ticket but not as yet as far as I can see.
(Hope for the holders I am wrong and rest assured that at some point I will join you lot)

cynic - 25 Jan 2018 16:32 - 1341 of 1520

before or after you've missed the boat :-) ?
most of my holding is in my sipp, and that is still +105% or thereabouts

relatively quiet day here today - only 21m traded

You might be right but my health insurance company does not cover me for catching falling knives anymore.... (having said that I agree it is a promising company)

kimoldfield - 25 Jan 2018 23:45 - 1343 of 1520

With rumours now circulating that Apple will ditch the iPhone X and cease production as early as the summer I can't see a recovery in the sp unfortunately. I don't know why Apple cannot iron out the glitches and drop the price or is it another Clive Sinclair c5 type of disaster of a phone instead of a car?!

cynic - 26 Jan 2018 10:09 - 1344 of 1520

have got fed up being kicked, so also taking into a/c what kim says above, i have bitten the bullet on 50% of my tradinfg a/c holding and also sold a slab from my sipp where the profit was very juicy

HARRYCAT - 26 Jan 2018 10:13 - 1345 of 1520

So the sp is likely to dip again after you dump your tranche Mr C? ;o)

kimoldfield - 26 Jan 2018 10:19 - 1346 of 1520

I've joined you cynic! I have retained just 100 shares to remind me to take note next time one of my shareholdings is substantially shorted! Not that I will need reminding!😬

kimoldfield - 26 Jan 2018 10:21 - 1347 of 1520

I've stuck the proceeds in AEG which has, in my view, far more potential!

Here we go again.

Shorters slowly leaving the building

cynic - 28 Jan 2018 15:19 - 1350 of 1520

after banking juicy profits on about 1/3, i still have a respectable number in my sipp at 51.4p, which i'm inclined to leave to run for very much longer

my trading postion i have reduced by about 65%, so that too can run, with minimal further risk

CWMAM - 29 Jan 2018 08:12 - 1351 of 1520

What an opening!

cynic - 29 Jan 2018 08:18 - 1352 of 1520

fingers being burned ..... +15% (120) this morning

irlee57 - 29 Jan 2018 08:19 - 1353 of 1520

the smell of burning shorters has made my day.

CWMAM - 29 Jan 2018 08:20 - 1354 of 1520

Shorters must be holding on to their nuts

skinny - 29 Jan 2018 08:27 - 1355 of 1520

I don't remember anything quite like this since the tech bubble - amazing!
