........."And so to our traditional "wild card". Pipex Communications, formerly known as GX Networks, is a telecoms company created by one of the entrepreneurs behind Ukbetting, Peter Dubens. It has been assembled from six smaller players. The ambitious company is generating cash for the first time but is still not widely followed in the City. It could be an undiscovered gem".

As they said on another board they will test the water for sells at 12p and then revert back with people happy to take the lower price. They fill the institutional orders and then move the price up.
Sit tight and add as the big boys do.They know the price is cheap as chips.

ISPA 2004 Award Winners Revealed
By: MarkJ @ 1:12 PM - Comments () - SendNews HERE / PrintNews HEREThe UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has finally revealed the winners of its 2004 awards. Sadly there were no real surprises among the winners, except the award for 'Best Small Business ISP', which went to Fastnet:
Best Metered ISP - Tiscali
Best Unmetered Dial-up ISP - Blueyonder from Telewest Broadband
Best Small Business ISP - Fastnet
Best Business Broadband ISP - Easynet
Best Consumer Broadband - Bulldog Communications
Best National Business ISP - Easynet
Best National Consumer ISP - Freeserve
It may also be worth noting that LINX won 'Best Internet Exchange', while the 'Internet Hero' award went to Steve Linford and Spamhaus for educating people about spam and helping to prevent it.
So what of 2004's 'Internet Villain'? Well it turned out to be Verisign, the group responsible for that "domain name system hijacking scandal".

Look back over the chart. This is how PXC moves. Big jumps followed by periods of small range-bound movement. Don't worry about the odd few days of red - it's just the market catching up with the price.

the whole tech market and just about all my other stocks are in the red. Other investors reporting the same. Suspect it's a downturn over the entire market today. Should rebound in a couple of days

Pipex Delivers Wireless To gedas
By: MarkJ @ 1:06 PM - Comments () - SendNews HERE / PrintNews HEREUK ISP Pipex is providing gedas (systems integrator) with two (4Mbps and 6Mbps) broadband wireless connections to supply four of its service divisions:
gedas goes wireless with PIPEX Communications
Leading systems integrator gedas united kingdom limited is operating and benefiting from fast, reliable and accessible Internet access provided by PIPEX Communications. A member of the Volkswagen Group, gedas selected PIPEX Communications to provide Wireless Access Internet Connectivity services.
PIPEX Communications, the telecom network operator and provider of business broadband solutions, is providing gedas with two high-speed broadband (microwave) connections to supply four of its service divisions. The first 4Mb connection enables staff at Volkswagens Milton Keynes based headquarters and 850 of its dealer network franchises to access their individual email accounts and browse the web via the corporate partner network.
The second 6Mb connection provides gedas headquarters with email and web browsing services and allows staff to access online training courses and multimedia content. The availability and performance of each divisions Internet connection is independently guaranteed and backed-up with a leased line connection.
Clare Stocker, Systems and Infrastructure Manager, gedas united kingdom, comments, As a Group, we do so much with the wireless connection, from sending e-mails, to on-line company training to watching video streaming and video multimedia content on the Internet. It has really helped our business to grow.
A recent example of how the connection has helped the Group was when the company launched the new Audi A8. The ceremony was held in Germany, but by using the video streaming facility, franchises in the UK were able to watch the launch live over the Internet.
To take advantage of Wireless Access, gedas needed to be situated in direct line of sight and within a radius of 15km of one of PIPEX Communications radio PoPs (Point of Presence) - an access point to the Internet. A discreet dish can be installed quickly and easily at the premises. If a line of sight is not available, PIPEX Communications can set up a mini PoP relay.
Because PIPEX Communications independently owns and manages its own national network, Wireless Access is able to provide a dedicated wireless Internet connection ensuring exceptional service quality.

UK set to be Euro top dog for broadband
By Tim Richardson
Posted: 26/02/2004 at 14:17 GMT
The UK is set to become top dog for high-speed Net access in Europe, finally ridding itself of the broadband laggard tag.
Part of the UK's predicted success is due to the availability of cable services, although DSL is expected to be the dominant broadband technology.
That's according to media-focused research outfit Screen Digest, which reckons that the number of broadband households in the UK will, after a slow start, rise sharply throughout the next five years.
By year-end 2008, 12.7 million - half of UK households - will have broadband connections. Of those, it 4.1 million households will be hooked up to broadband services via cable. The rest (8.5 million) will have DSL broadband connections by 2008.
Said Screen Digest's broadband specialist Arash Amel: "The UK, unlike other European territories, has a well developed digital cable network and the rollout of broadband access has been a key component of the two cable operators' strategies.
"The emergence of alternative network offerings in the UK has increased competition in the market and will drive broadband growth more quickly than in other European markets."
Come 2008 the UK is tipped to be the biggest broadband nation in Europe with 12.7m lines, followed by Germany (12.6m) and France (10.8m).
Is it only a couple of years ago that an OECD report found that the UK was rooted firmly to the bottom of an international league table of broadband countries?

Broadband MOT - Mar 2004
"Eclipse Internet and Nildram have consistently traded places at the top of the speed league table at www.adslguide.org.uk during the latter half of 2003.
'Sebastian Lahtinen, co-founder of ADSLguide.org.uk, has his own particular commendation. "There are always market leaders in terms of ISPs trying to push the boundaries of speed, price and service," he says. "I would say Pipex has probably been the leader thus far on a retail level".
