Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Those with a stoploss will have been slaughtered because they will have been stopped out at 140 or 150p....I bet they are cursing...

HARRYCAT - 02 Jun 2010 14:20 - 1409 of 6294

It might have gone down so fast that ordinary stops weren't triggered.

Oh, but they will have...you can be 100% sure of that....I've just taken a small one out....going long....

Proselenes - 02 Jun 2010 14:43 - 1411 of 6294

I thought it was a short attack, and it was, I went for my dinner and just back.

It was a bit fishy this morning that the AT buying stopped basically, gradually the bid was walked down, then a load of new posters appears talking crap, then they wait for lunch time (when directors and brokers are out of the office so immediate RNS's cannot be put out) and then rumour that its all gone wrong.

I reckon there was a few major players involved in that, including buyers of the stock on the drop and shorters to help it fall.

As I said earlier, all my stock is paid for, so it does not matter short term, but I feel sorry for anyone on margin or spread bet who got stopped out on that.

That was a planned attack, for sure, but it tells you one thing, the news coming is good and they are desperate to get your stock in their pockets.

Anyway, nice RNS, onwards and upwards !!

Not sold any, and no plans too until at the very earliest after Ernest is drilled !!

BP's track record in the US may mean they will find it difficult to obtain new licences from the US government, so they may have to look elsewhere. If the Falklands become a new oil province of the UK what easier way forward than to buy into RKH with a successful discovery already under its belt.

markymar - 02 Jun 2010 17:29 - 1417 of 6294

Halfifax you might also get a deepwater rig for BOR as well on the cheap as if they cant use them then they will want to sub lease them.

halifax - 02 Jun 2010 17:36 - 1418 of 6294

marky now you are talking. We await the official RNS from RKH which if really positive could be the beginning of the "great oil rush" for the falklands.

kimoldfield - 02 Jun 2010 21:05 - 1419 of 6294

Something was very wrong with today. OK, I profited from the shambles but I have no doubt many lost a fair old wad of cash. It aint fair but the perpetrators will no doubt get away with it. Such is the Market, I suppose that is what makes it tick, in a way.

Having grumbled, mildly for me,....................where is Cynic? I hope he hasn't fallen off his bike.

You there C?

Balerboy - 02 Jun 2010 21:10 - 1420 of 6294

got his legs out on his bike I expect...

cynic - 02 Jun 2010 22:25 - 1421 of 6294

kimoldfield - 02 Jun 2010 23:16 - 1422 of 6294

Golf? Wentworth? ig boys? Or should that be Big boys? WoooooooOOOOOooooo!! ;o) Well I'm glad you weren't stopped out. It's been a sticky day for some.

required field - 02 Jun 2010 23:22 - 1423 of 6294

Somewhere, somebody will have lost a fortune....ex : 260p...down to 140p, with stoploss at 190, sounds reasonable for the stoploss, but such a sudden drop ; sp tumbles to 140p, stoploss triggered, sp just on the way up when it goes through...sold out at 165p.....times the number of cfd's....10000....50000.... : big loss.....and you try and complain : you won't get anywhere !....bad day....

Proselenes - 03 Jun 2010 00:23 - 1424 of 6294

On the plus side (there is one of course) many weaker holders have been stopped out, most of the hot money is gone and so what remains should be in stronger hands.

There will also be a lot of investigation into the trades and its very very unlikely anyone will be attempting any more "bear raids" now, so allow Thu/Fri for the remaining shorts to go and for people to buy back their positions and end of trade on Friday should be back to normal.

At some point the people who shorted the rebound will have to close out and it will
be before Friday end of day so a rally is coming at some stage.

I do hope the FSA catch those behind the false rumours and initial shorting and make them pay some whopping great fines with some time in prison.

...........Trading in Rockhopper Exploration shares was suspended nine times on AIM after the price plunged by almost 77 per cent, before recovering most of those stinging losses almost as quickly.

The London Stock Exchange is understood to have asked the Financial Services Authority to take a look..............

cynic - 03 Jun 2010 04:46 - 1426 of 6294

so who among our jolly crew will be buying at the open today?

Proselenes - 03 Jun 2010 07:00 - 1427 of 6294

Dow finished up 2%.

Hang Seng is up. Nikkei is up.

Dow futures are up.

Could be a couple of blue days ahead on the markets, and hopefully that will force the remaining shorts to close and with buyers back in the market we might even finish the week unchanged on the RKH price front........

Taking in the directors comments of "in line with directors expectations" and we know they were bullish, could RKH be on to announce a figure near to the P90 case for recoverable oil ?

Brokers have been touting the P50 case for their figures but noting "upgrades could well happen" and so with the directors expectations being bullish there is good chance for figures higher (much higher?) than the P50 case which is of course just the requirement of the CPR which must state P10, P50 and P90 but which do not represent "directors expectations".

Now that would be nice to get a big upgrade figure next week once all the tests are done on the cores and samples.
