Hi J Stratford- I'll have to reread your story then ;0). As I said I remembered you for a girl incident, phone calls sent to you in the wee hours of the morning and you thought she left you. You having a long pointless journey and the others consoling you when she wants you just as a friend.....but must admit I didn't read the beginning part.
Anyway, trust me female thinking is something I am trying to understand myself!!!

Morning all from a nice and sunny Hastings.
bunny, you know you should always have a couple of boxes of haddock fish fingers in the freezer...
JS,
I would have told her that you had to boil then in the can for about 45 minutes!
I didnt go to uni but I used to spend a lot of time with my mate Alex while he was at UMIST, I was in one of the kitchens with him once and there was a pompous idiot, who we did not know, who was haranguing everyone about how to eat sensibly.
Eating sensibly I simply not something that 18 year old students did in 1978 (he was ahead of his time!!).
Anyway Alex and I decided to liven up the kitchen a bit so we went back to his room and collected a number of ingredients and returned to the kitchen to cook them, the ingredients were a little unusual, but mainly consisted of cigarette dog ends and orange peel and an egg. We then spent about 15 minutes cooking this lot into a sort of omelette, all the while talking fairly loudly about how nice dog ends were in an omelette and how the orange peel really enhanced the flavour, pompous idiot was literally stunned by this and simply could not believe what we were doing. As we finished cooking and started to serve out the omelette he rushed out to get his camera and some of his mates, we used this opportunity to dump the omelette and disappear. I still laugh out loud when I remember this episode.

Best way to heat up a can of beans/soup etc. is just to put it on the stove as it is, mixing the contents with a spoon as they heat up. Works with electric and gas stoves but do remember to open the can first :-) Very energy efficient and only a spoon to wash up afterwards. The label doesn't burn since the metal underneath distributes the heat and keeps it below the temperature necessary.

Spacie, Healthy eating and students is still something of a rarity. Lucky for me that I was a few years old than those around me. I still have nightmares about going round to see my mates in their shared house (7 blokes), if you liked your shoes you just didn't stand still in the kitchen but did some kind of Irish Jig to keep your feet of the floor!
Bluey, I wouldn't bother re-reading. Think it's safe to say the girl doesn't know what she wants. She spent last week down here with me, took her home on Thursday and haven't heard anything since. So as I say, don't ask me to understand female logic!!! I'll write the book about it all one day.
I'll put the kettle on.

Spurred on by yesterdays discussions about cars I decided to get the Audi A6 working and take it for a drive. The was very little that I had to do, just put the battery back in and check a few things like tyre pressures. All went well and I took it for a drive and the car was fine, even better after a high speed (but legal) run down the A21. Got back home and I found a major problem, I could not get it into reverse.
I had to get my neighbour to help me push the car as I had started a turn in the road that needed reverse to complete before I found the problem, luckily there is no through traffic so I was spared the embarrassment of holding up any other traffic. I then spent 2 hours trying to sort it out ....... the problem? I had forgotten that in the Audi you have to press the gear stick down to select reverse !!!
I think this illustrates very well just what a car expert I am.....
Kayak, I like the co friendly bean cooking process, even if the label did burn a bit it would probably just enhance the beans by adding a slight smokey flavour.

Spacie, don't worry, you're not the only one who has trouble finding reverse. The Westfield has reverse under fifth... the number of times I've gone for sixth when doing 6000 rpm!!!

Actually chocolat that's the beauty of it, you can rest the can on the stovetop while it's heating, but the heat is distributed so that you can steady it with your hand at the top while stirring and the top will be no hotter than the contents.
OK I'll stop on this topic or people will think I'm an anorak. Anyway I'll be off to note down the local locomotive numbers shortly.

Morning all
bluey good taste, watched both grand designs and the apprentice last night, big fan of the apprentice but where did they drag this last bunch from for the apprentice. 7 girls, 16 hrs and a 200 float and they managed to make about 65 between them - thats about 58p an hour each and they had to resort to pimping kisses to get most of that
right off to replace the shower cubicle in the en-suite, a coffee each or hour or so would be good

choccy, choose the smallest burner obviously and set the flame so the flames don't go up the sides. Everytime I've tried it, it will happily sit on the cast iron burner top (where the flames come out) if the pan supports are spaced too far apart.
Now come on, you're a woman, you should know how to cook :-)

Good morning chocolat, Spaceman and Fundamentalist,
Spaceman-cars ,cars cars, I love talking about cars!!!!
chocolat-was it really baked beans so early in the day ;0)
Fundamentalist- I know this lot in the Apprentice don't seem very bright but at least the girls will still have the crayons for the next time!!!
J Stratford-I know that you should know whose spring cleaning you did, BUT when I first posted in the coffee house you said spring cleaning is finished. Then just before good Friday you said can two enter the coffee house and the lovely Jo was there and was going back home. So I would assume from that SHE helped you with your spring cleaning. NOW you say you did hers. Was it all the fumes from the cleaning products sending you in a state of confusement. Anyway, I hate spring cleaning so I doubt the fumes would affect me!!!

Bluey, just to clear up the confusion... 2 weeks ago I was spring cleaning down here in anticipation that the lovely Jo might still decide to grace me with her presence. On the Friday I dissapeared back up to my weekend retreat (near to where Jo lives) as per normal to teach lots of little blighters how to play the guitar. The following Monday, I and a friend / colleague took Jo and her twin sister out to a very fancy restaurant. On Tuesday morning I decided that it would be stupid to have her down her with me, so left nice and early. 1 hour into the journey she sends me a text asking what time I'm picking her up. I (foolishly) turn round and go back, pick her up and come back down here. She stayed down here as a friend for a few days before I took her home on Thursday late night. At no point did I contemplate doing her spring cleaning. Hopefully all is now clear, although the situation is still as clear as mud if you ask me!!!
Anyway, does anyone mind if I take the kettle off now? It's getting a bit heavy.
