CLOSED - THANKS to all customers for the last few years

Bunny, there is a 2 acre garden out there, no danger of tripping over your cold frame. Just for you I have planted a large plot of carrots. Its in the part of garden with a 3ft fence around it. That is to keep out carrot fly, they only fly about 12" from the ground.

Socs are those carrot flies scared of heights?

Socrates - 16 Apr 2007 10:20 - 14426 of 24230

I don't think so Spacie, but they know a thing or two about carrots, like they don't grow on trees.

Bluelady - 16 Apr 2007 10:28 - 14427 of 24230

Good morning stockbunny and Spaceman,

Socrates- with the aid of the internet I have been doing some research on carrot flies. Apparently, the adult fly locates carrots by a number of means, including scent. So there are two possibilities here, one is to peg their noses so they can't smell the carrots or that we all donate our perfume/aftershave to you and you dab it around the fence!!!

Spaceman - 16 Apr 2007 10:29 - 14428 of 24230

Socs, well I have to take your word for that, last time I asked a carrot fly about it he didnt even reply.....

Socrates - 16 Apr 2007 11:27 - 14429 of 24230

Time for elevenses, where is Bunny?

I went to the antique fair at the NEC and scored a resounding victory. Managed to come away without spending any money, apart from refreshments. I've never seen so many Auntie Wainrights in the same place all at once before. Some lovely items there, could have spent a fortune. If only I had one to spend!

I'm here! Actually you can combat carrot fly by interplanting onions as they hate the smell of those....OK lunch....aubergine bake or cottage pie.

Socrates - 16 Apr 2007 11:58 - 14431 of 24230

Yes please Bunny.

PS carrots don't ward off onion fly, so what then?

stockbunny - 16 Apr 2007 12:16 - 14432 of 24230

there isn't an onion fly Socs to my knowledge - just bunnies with smelly breath LOL

Socrates - 16 Apr 2007 12:28 - 14433 of 24230

Delia Antiqua - Onion Fly.

chocolat - 16 Apr 2007 12:30 - 14434 of 24230

Jeffie will know.

Socrates - 16 Apr 2007 12:39 - 14435 of 24230

KEAYDIAN - 16 Apr 2007 12:54 - 14437 of 24230

Morning all, what's for brekkie?

Socrates - 16 Apr 2007 12:56 - 14438 of 24230

We've got some cold bacon and greasy eggs left, K. Or you could have lunch and catch up with the rest of the world.

KEAYDIAN - 16 Apr 2007 12:58 - 14439 of 24230

What's for lunch then?

Socrates - 16 Apr 2007 13:04 - 14440 of 24230

Courtesy of Bunny, aubergine bake or cottage pie. (Or cold bacon and greasy eggs).

Spaceman - 16 Apr 2007 13:06 - 14441 of 24230

or onion and carrot fly stew ?

Bluelady - 16 Apr 2007 13:13 - 14442 of 24230

Hi Keaydian, if there was ever an incentive to get up earlier it is NOW....I mean onion and carrot fly stew or congealed left overs versus the lovely FEB that Socrates was offering us much earlier.

KEAYDIAN - 16 Apr 2007 13:17 - 14443 of 24230

:o(

Just a cup of tea then please.
