Hello. It's the weekend again, hooray.

Spaceman - 19 Apr 2007 21:07 - 14493 of 24230

Socs, about time you retired properly isnt it ;-)

Socrates - 19 Apr 2007 21:10 - 14494 of 24230

Spacie
It's fairly imminent. New chap starts 30-Apr-07 so I should be a free agent a few weeks after that. Of course, if they make me an offer I can't refuse.....?

KEAYDIAN - 20 Apr 2007 00:19 - 14495 of 24230

Burp, hic, alwght all you.

Bluelady - 20 Apr 2007 01:05 - 14496 of 24230

What a shame I finally get back to the coffee house and find that Keaydian has been on the drink. Socrates says it's the weekend when in actual fact only for him, jeffmack has had a crash landing back to planet earth when in actual fact it should be Spaceman doing such a thing. Which just leaves me to say goodnight stockbunny et al!!!

Socrates - 20 Apr 2007 07:13 - 14497 of 24230

Good morning, isn't it? Look you.

Up bright and early today because I thought that after Keaydian's binge a bit of a clean-up may be required. I'm glad to say that Pru the handyman has done us proud and the place is spotless.

I'm thinking about brekkies, hunger strikes again.

Socrates - 20 Apr 2007 07:55 - 14498 of 24230

I know it's early yet, but my portfolio looks remarkably blue!

Bluelady - 20 Apr 2007 08:11 - 14499 of 24230

Good morning Socrates, can you tell me whether I slept for two days, please? I am sure I posted on Thursday night/very early Friday and yet I log into my Barclays' account just now and it distinctly informed me that the market was closed!!!

Spaceman - 20 Apr 2007 08:25 - 14500 of 24230

Morning all, a bit dull in Hastings this morning and I have a very busy day as I am on leave next week...

stockbunny - 20 Apr 2007 08:26 - 14501 of 24230

Morning Folks - tea's on...
Keaydian is sleeping in the corner, best not disturb him, he seems to have had a heavy night last night on the grog ;>)

Socrates - 20 Apr 2007 08:34 - 14502 of 24230

Good morning Bluelady. Now you have me confused, but I'm pretty sure that today is a friday and that the market is now open.

optomistic - 20 Apr 2007 08:43 - 14503 of 24230

Morning all, lucky chap is our K, can sleep anywhere anytime.
Large pot of tea and the customary danish for me.

Bluelady - 20 Apr 2007 08:45 - 14504 of 24230

Good morning Spaceman and stockbunny,

Socrates, well you did say the w/e was here yesterday evening and Barclays is still telling me the market is closed. But not only that I can't see my portfolio, deal etc

There is obviously some market activity as I can see some shares being sold or bought ....but this is what I am seeing...

The Market is closed

Just do me a lovely breakfast please or since I've got time on my hands I'll do one for you.

Socrates - 20 Apr 2007 09:17 - 14505 of 24230

Somehow I don't think Barclays would close just because I said it was a weekend. Apart from not being able to trade on there website, what are they like as a broker?

Bluelady - 20 Apr 2007 09:46 - 14506 of 24230

Hi Socrates, I was actually able to get back into Barclays around 9am :0). In the main it is quite good but sometimes I get locked out. I suppose I could deal over the telephone. The charges are reasonable 12 no matter how large the deal and then 7.50 after 10 deals in a quarter. WHEN there is an error I get it dealt with quite quickly. I also have my main portfolio linked with my ISA. There is a good research area and they do let you buy some shares which occasionally other people have difficulties, especially when they have just come onto the stockmarket. Last year I found that there were difficulties because the HMRC changed their ruling and a lot of the shares were no longer tradeable for a time in my ISA but that shouldn't be a problem now!!!

Socrates - 20 Apr 2007 09:54 - 14507 of 24230

Thanks Bluelady. At present I use two and seriously condidering a change. 12 sounds a bit high for these days and I'm not sure I would do 10 trades in a quarter.

Bluelady - 20 Apr 2007 09:58 - 14508 of 24230

Socrates when you have done 10 trades in one quarter then the next quarter starts at 7.50.

Socrates - 20 Apr 2007 10:29 - 14509 of 24230

I don't think I've ever done ten trades in a year!

Bluelady - 20 Apr 2007 10:38 - 14510 of 24230

Socrates, but think of all that spare time you will have on your hands ;0) .

If you prefer to be the long term investor, stick to what you know best. Gosh even when I had to go to the town centre to do buying and selling I think I bought more than 10 times in a year. The telephone trading was much better and now the internet is amazing for speed, but also for frustration.
