Somehow I don't think Barclays would close just because I said it was a weekend. Apart from not being able to trade on there website, what are they like as a broker?

Hi Socrates, I was actually able to get back into Barclays around 9am :0). In the main it is quite good but sometimes I get locked out. I suppose I could deal over the telephone. The charges are reasonable 12 no matter how large the deal and then 7.50 after 10 deals in a quarter. WHEN there is an error I get it dealt with quite quickly. I also have my main portfolio linked with my ISA. There is a good research area and they do let you buy some shares which occasionally other people have difficulties, especially when they have just come onto the stockmarket. Last year I found that there were difficulties because the HMRC changed their ruling and a lot of the shares were no longer tradeable for a time in my ISA but that shouldn't be a problem now!!!

Thanks Bluelady. At present I use two and seriously condidering a change. 12 sounds a bit high for these days and I'm not sure I would do 10 trades in a quarter.

Socrates when you have done 10 trades in one quarter then the next quarter starts at 7.50.

I don't think I've ever done ten trades in a year!

Socrates, but think of all that spare time you will have on your hands ;0) .
If you prefer to be the long term investor, stick to what you know best. Gosh even when I had to go to the town centre to do buying and selling I think I bought more than 10 times in a year. The telephone trading was much better and now the internet is amazing for speed, but also for frustration.

I feel ready for a snack, I think I'll have a can of soup with yesterdays left-over savoury mince mixed in. That will set me up for whatever Bunny has laid on for today's menu.

I'm back. I've been having a quiet cultural moment with some of my favourite music. I decided to fire up the stereo kit on my computer and remind myself of some of the most sublime compositions in my collection. Back to reality!
