What to do? is rising today

I guess the main arguments against are:-
(i) ANR has such asset backing and such a low price that downside risk is probably very low for the patient investor
(ii) one might miss a rise in ANR while out of Altona
(iii) one should have a diversified portfolio and moving may concentrate risk (depending on the portfolio makeup).

I dont wish to say anything against Altona, and Gene Grant may well be right. I will keep some funds here, and in several others with strong potential, as part of my balanced portfolio.

Although I wouldnt go as far as the message from these gals .....

Yesterday's EVOLUTION note .........

08 November 2010
Altona Energy (ANR.L) Buy -
Heating up
A recent visit to South Australia exhibited the potential of Altonas
Arckaringa coal project. The company has good relationships with the
South Australian authorities and, we believe, is laying solid foundations
for the future. The Chinese joint venture partners are now building
critical mass in Adelaide and we expect that this stage will be completed
before the end of the year. In the meantime, considerable background
work is ongoing and we believe that the parties will be able

Valuation
We have undertaken a range of updated valuations for Altona focused on a
mixture of where we currently perceive the group and how we anticipate the project
to be developed over time. From a current 12-18 month valuation of around
35p/share we see considerable longer-term upside to 60p as the project moves
closer to production.

Recommendation
We expect that Altonas news generation is set to move up a gear in 2011 as the
company pushes ahead with the work required to complete the various studies that
will feed into a development decision. Given the nature of the Chinese joint venture
partners this may be made ahead of completion of a formal bankable feasibility
study, in which case CNOOC-NEI is required to arrange bank finance for the project.
This would ease Altonas financial requirements and potentially enhance equity
value. Against this backdrop, and with a 35p target price, we reiterate our
recommendation on the stock. Buy.

ALTONA - Evolution note

cynners ....as keen as mustard mon ami.../ ticks all the prerequisite boxes / Have quite a sizeable holding from 8p when its tec chart spelt BUY .........Have you a position yourself ? ........hasten to add have traded it about half a dozen times but always kept a core holding . Perhaps a tad small for yourself but you know the old adage ,,,,,from acorns do great oaks grow et ect ect ..........Have a feeling the Chinese will buy us out what with their appetite for this resource

cynic - 14 Jan 2011 16:24 - 177 of 183

i do now (since yesterday), but only about 55% ration

TheFrenchConnection - 14 Jan 2011 16:38 - 178 of 183

.....pretty sure you will make some spondoolies here .........some big players recently entering the lists buying seven figure numbers at top of the market...........So you back off to Dubai / reading an article recently about Dubai and UAE and how their debts will impact quite horribly esp. on London and NY and even Euro banking system . Quite terrifying really-all to do with buying of gold on COMEX that doesnt exist ,,,,,,JP Morgan implicated as custodian / am expecting trouble with regulater there soon .Am surprised news hasnt come into the public domain as yet

cynic - 14 Jan 2011 17:01 - 179 of 183

my view of UAE is slightly different, but i'll try to get a better feel when i'm over there ..... for sure the ex-pats buying property over there were just greedy fools and will have been deservedly badly burnt if they were trying to lease to or to sell on ..... however, i get the feeling that construction is slowly starting up again, and certainly that will be proven if i see cranes working

as for the euro, i concur that it's in for a very bad time and i would be a seller of same if forex was my idea of fun ..... it is not entirely impossible that we'll end up with a 2-tier euro, though i'm not sure that that would work any better .... that said, i guess it would result in massive devaluation for some countries and the effective expunging of debt

TIME FOR A BOUNCE BACK FROM THIS POINT spread 11.75 / 12p

Reasons:
At this point is a 61.8% fibonacci retracement ( the best % )
The level 2 is strong 8 v 2
Indicators at oversold and share price at lower Bollinger Band ( buy time )
Buyers paying full price now a bit earlier was 11.90p and 11.95p

As the chart of "money am" are wrong I posted others
