Right. Apologies in advance, but it's rant time.
I hate text messages. One, you can't understand what they're meant to say. Two, if you don't recognise the phone number, you have no idea who it is. And three, you have to phone them back to sort anything out anyway, so why can't they phone you in the first place?
Sorry about that, but I've got three messages this week from pupils cancelling lessons, so I'm now going to have to phone round all my pupils to find out who's cancelled what.

There's plenty more K., but I wont bother. I just get slightly annoyed when I'm already in a bad mood before I start teaching.

I have a cure for that JS....don't have a mobile phone! I refuse to have one, if I go out shopping I want peace and quiet not Mum where's my shirt?! flush it down the loo!

Unless the Fed do something iffy, it could be a good evening on the dow :>)

Unfortunately, it's the only phone I have, so I have it on all the time in case my parents need to get hold of me. I do ignore it most of the time, especially when certain people used to keep calling in the middle of the night.

Well you'll have to train these students to email you, at least then you will have an originating address - cheaper then having to phone if you have to go back to them.

Tried that as well. Unfortunately that got to the point where a couple of pupils started to try to cross the boundries between what I felt was acceptable communication. The only good thing with email is that you can easily keep an exact record of everything that has been said. Believe me, teaching is not much fun these days.

No I can imagine.......I love my kids, love it when they have friends round but a room full of other people's kids who may or may not want to learn...isn't exactly my idea of fun! LOL

A classroom of kids isn't that bad, it's when you're on a one to one situation that things can be difficult.

You know, when this MoneyAM thing started, who could have guessed that one of the most popular long running threads on a financial market Bulletin board would be an imaginary cafe/bar run by a small, stuffed, woollen toy with a bell around its neck, itself owned by a charming chap with a penchant for pricey loudspeakers.

So what was that about the English being a race of eccentrics?

But what is life apart from an imaginary scenario where we are but all players in a drama which no mortal man knows the ending thereof.

UUmmm you can't call Lambie a stuffed wooden toy! As for being eccentric, I couldn't possibly comment cos I'm a bunny and we don't suffer from things like that! ;>)

Anyway. I'm starving. How's the salmon coming along Bunny?

You know JS I've been thinking...if you're experiencing problems with these students one to one, then you must be too young and good looking for your own good! ;>)

Don't even joke about it. It's more a case that when one of them comes to you and wants to say something confidential, you cannot legally turn them away, but you have to listen which means you then get the stress of trying to sort out there lives for them. For example; What do you do when a 14 year old tells you she's pregnant and it's the step fathers?

Difficult, all you can do is point out the organisations that may be able to help her or suggest she sees her Dr - one of those jobs where you have to stay detached but understandably very difficult, as I said, not a career I would want but I have full respect for those who do enter the profession - not for the faint hearted that's for sure!
