Lambykins's Dutch Coffee House - ADULTS ONLY (LAMB)

Spaceman - 28 Jan 2005 23:56

CLOSED - THANKS to all customers for the last few years

JStratford - 28 Jun 2007 17:41 - 16345 of 24230

Tried that as well. Unfortunately that got to the point where a couple of pupils started to try to cross the boundries between what I felt was acceptable communication. The only good thing with email is that you can easily keep an exact record of everything that has been said. Believe me, teaching is not much fun these days.

stockbunny - 28 Jun 2007 17:43 - 16346 of 24230

No I can imagine.......I love my kids, love it when they have friends round but a room full of other people's kids who may or may not want to learn...isn't exactly my idea of fun! LOL

JStratford - 28 Jun 2007 17:46 - 16347 of 24230

A classroom of kids isn't that bad, it's when you're on a one to one situation that things can be difficult.

MightyMicro - 28 Jun 2007 17:54 - 16348 of 24230

You know, when this MoneyAM thing started, who could have guessed that one of the most popular long running threads on a financial market Bulletin board would be an imaginary cafe/bar run by a small, stuffed, woollen toy with a bell around its neck, itself owned by a charming chap with a penchant for pricey loudspeakers.

So what was that about the English being a race of eccentrics?

JStratford - 28 Jun 2007 18:03 - 16349 of 24230

But what is life apart from an imaginary scenario where we are but all players in a drama which no mortal man knows the ending thereof.

stockbunny - 28 Jun 2007 18:06 - 16350 of 24230

UUmmm you can't call Lambie a stuffed wooden toy! As for being eccentric, I couldn't possibly comment cos I'm a bunny and we don't suffer from things like that! ;>)

JStratford - 28 Jun 2007 18:09 - 16351 of 24230

Anyway. I'm starving. How's the salmon coming along Bunny?

stockbunny - 28 Jun 2007 18:11 - 16352 of 24230

All ready! Help yourself......

JStratford - 28 Jun 2007 18:18 - 16353 of 24230

Thanks muchly :-)

stockbunny - 28 Jun 2007 18:20 - 16354 of 24230

You know JS I've been thinking...if you're experiencing problems with these students one to one, then you must be too young and good looking for your own good! ;>)

JStratford - 28 Jun 2007 18:36 - 16355 of 24230

Don't even joke about it. It's more a case that when one of them comes to you and wants to say something confidential, you cannot legally turn them away, but you have to listen which means you then get the stress of trying to sort out there lives for them. For example; What do you do when a 14 year old tells you she's pregnant and it's the step fathers?

stockbunny - 28 Jun 2007 18:43 - 16356 of 24230

Difficult, all you can do is point out the organisations that may be able to help her or suggest she sees her Dr - one of those jobs where you have to stay detached but understandably very difficult, as I said, not a career I would want but I have full respect for those who do enter the profession - not for the faint hearted that's for sure!

JStratford - 28 Jun 2007 18:50 - 16357 of 24230

Unfortunately, as soon as a minor tells you something that is potentially a danger to themselves, you become responsible. In a classroom teaching scenario, you pass it on to to your head who'll pass it on to the attached health representative. In one to one, there's no one to pass it on to, and unfortunately with the 'Soap Opera' mentality of certain mothers you can quickly find yourself in a very difficult situation.

stockbunny - 28 Jun 2007 19:07 - 16358 of 24230

Very difficult......

stockbunny - 28 Jun 2007 19:20 - 16359 of 24230

Ok I'm packing up and goin' home - retiring to sofa in next room to veggie in front of Tv LOL

JStratford - 28 Jun 2007 19:25 - 16360 of 24230

MightyMicro - 28 Jun 2007 19:32 - 16361 of 24230

MightyMicro - 29 Jun 2007 01:06 - 16363 of 24230

Well, I'm sure I don't know who the dissipated old f*rt is that's holding you, Lambykins, but it does look like Chocolat has had a few as well . . .

Socrates - 29 Jun 2007 07:51 - 16364 of 24230

Good morning. The tea and breakfast is all ready and I am going to have a double helping since I am rather peckish. I shall then have a bucket of sherry trifle.

Now, what's all this about the English being eccentric?
