Oil prices edge up as US equities rebound

Oil prices rebounded this afternoon as traders started pouring money back into stock markets following Thursdays major sell-off that saw the Dow Jones index in the US shed more than 400 points. Investors jumped on the opportunity to buy stocks at bargain prices after equities extended losses this morning.

Commodities tracked movements in stock markets today with oil futures rallying above US$83 per barrel in the US after equities rebounded, while Brent crawled closer to US$110.

Movements in currency markets have also been favourable for crude oil futures today. The US dollar dropped against other major currencies as demand for safe haven assets faded closer to mid afternoon.

Weakness in the US dollar lifts demand for the dollar denominated crude by making it cheaper for holders of other currencies.

US benchmark crude plunged below US$80 yesterday after the crash in US markets, while facing more pressure from Wednesdays inventories report. The Department of Energy said that crude oil stockpiles added a massive 4.2 million barrels, a sign that oil demand in the US was weak.

US light, sweet crude for October delivery climbed 68 cents to US$83.19/barrel in morning trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX).

Today is day 38 of the Georgia drill since spud.
At the Maukhiani 1 well we are targeting 115 million barrels,
at a drill depth of 3500mtrs.
Ranges interest being 46 million barrels - 40% interest.
We have just gone by the 10 day update, so there should be
news early next week.

If we hit oil in Puntland I gather it will piped to the Berbera port, north east Somalia
on the golf coast of arden. They provide pipelines, refinery and port facilities.
