Socrates - 25 Jul 2007 09:01 - 17294 of 24230

Bluelady - We are all served by the same water treatment plant at Tewkesbury, that's the source of the problem, or more to the point, not the source!

Bluelady - 25 Jul 2007 09:11 - 17295 of 24230

Sorry to hear that Socrates, I must admit it must be difficult and I guess it can't be easy.

stockbunny - 25 Jul 2007 09:13 - 17296 of 24230

Socs :>( Hope they sort something - water tankers - for you soon.

Spaceman - 25 Jul 2007 09:16 - 17297 of 24230

Morning all fram a dull Hastings.

Bluelady - 25 Jul 2007 09:18 - 17298 of 24230

Socrates, found something for you.

Socrates - 25 Jul 2007 09:50 - 17299 of 24230

It is the sanitary arrangements that are difficult. It takes 7 litres to flush a loo. Since there is no mains water, there are no showers or baths or water for washing clothes. Water for washing/washing up has to be heated in a kettle since we have gas boiler which won't operate without mains water pressure.

The water and emergency services have provided lots of bottled water and there is a bowser in the next street to us. Drinking water is therefore not critical, but if the emergency lasts the two weeks they are estimating, life could become a bit fraught when we start running out of clean clothes.

We are lucky in that we are miles from the flood water. Those that have had a surfeit of water have my sympathy because their problems are just starting.

There are no cafes or restaurants open and some shops have also closed. Hopefully the supermarkets will make appropriate washing/toilet facilities available to their staff so that they may remain open. If they shut down, it will be a real problem.

Bluelady - 25 Jul 2007 10:03 - 17300 of 24230

Ok Socrates, I've been in countries where they go to the toilet outside, problem solved for the toilet. I've even been next to people who don't bother to wash their clothes or themselves. Also I have eaten off crockery from a german guy who washed up in cold water and no washing up liquid and still survived. But would I recommend it no way.

The only thing I can offer you is a virtual cup of piping hot tea and a steaming hot shower, once Keaydian gets out of it!!!

stockbunny - 25 Jul 2007 10:34 - 17301 of 24230

Socs - do you have a water butt that you could use water from for loo flushing?

Socrates - 25 Jul 2007 12:20 - 17302 of 24230

Not at present Bunny, shall be getting one with the gutter downpipe attachment. I have been meaning to get one for ages because we don't have an outside tap for watering the garden.

stockbunny - 25 Jul 2007 12:45 - 17303 of 24230

Sorry you don't have one, the water is pretty horrid but if flushing a loo or watering the garden it doesn't matter.

KEAYDIAN - 25 Jul 2007 13:24 - 17304 of 24230

Nevermind that, is anybody making lunch today. I'm starved.
