Rockhopper was established in 2004 with a strategy to invest in and undertake an offshore oil exploration programme in the North Falkland Basin. It was floated on AIM in August 2005. Rockhopper was the first company to make a commercial oil discovery in the Falklands. Today Rockhopper is the largest acreage holder in the North Falkland Basin, with interests in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Marky, you are so gullible...

Financial Times Report

Rockhopper Exploration plc ('Rockhopper' or the 'Company'), the AIM traded (RKH) oil and gas explorer with licences in the North Falkland Basin, notes the report in the Financial Times today entitled 'Smaller producers get ready for consolidation'.

The report wrongly quotes BHP Billiton as having bought into Rockhopper's assets.

Rockhopper holds a 100% interest in North Falkland Basin Licences PL023, PL024 PL032 and PL033 and holds a 7.5% interest in Licences PL003 and PL004.

Technical work done on the Rockhopper licences has indicated Director's estimates of unrisked recoverable reserves of 4.3 billion barrels and in addition has identified a multi tcf gas prospect. The acreage has both proven oil and proven gas and is located in relatively shallow water.

While Rockhopper has not entered into any agreement with BHP, it can confirm that it is in discussion with a number of potential farm-out partners and is also continuing the search for a rig in conjunction with other operators in the North Falkland Basin.

what time does school start these days?

markymar - 23 Oct 2008 08:39 - 193 of 6294

Justyi hurry along to school now you have 20 minutes before the bell.

Don't let you mind wander - it's far too small to be let out on its own

justyi - 23 Oct 2008 09:04 - 194 of 6294

Oops...I'm late. But it's not bad for a schoolgirl to get this right, eh?

smiler o - 23 Oct 2008 10:18 - 195 of 6294

Get what right ? this has droped due to the market slump ! (dont you read the news ) and a drop in oil .. but the Good prospects still remain..it may take a year or so but still a good buy at 12p !!!

geordieguy - 23 Oct 2008 10:19 - 196 of 6294

it will soon be playtime in playground

cynic - 23 Oct 2008 10:23 - 197 of 6294

sorry, but extracting oil in FI, and that assumes the company finds any, is not only several years away but, at a guess, will require a lot of the stuff and a price north of $100 ..... therefore, how can this or FOGL or a number of others be a good buy now, other than good-bye to your money?

smiler o - 23 Oct 2008 11:02 - 198 of 6294

FOGL is the only one I am in at the moment and at 60p I still think you will see some price movement in 2009 4 Q It will not have to move much for some to make a profit, and when the drilling starts it Could go a lot higher just on hype and speculation as it has done in the past. I have made money on this share before at 100 and selling at 160 and there was no sign of drilling or Oil ???????????????????? but it still remains Fact ... Caution is needed in this market Things Change and quick !

greekman - 24 Oct 2008 08:14 - 199 of 6294

Followed this thread due to holding shares in FKL, and the Rockhopper connection.
Have now squelched those posters who as someone pointed out are like pathetic children with their playground antics, who I presume as they either hold shares or have an interest are adults, or are they.
Thanks though to those who have contributed sensible comments, for or against.

Seems slightly odd to me that BHP has a large plot to the East (off Falklands) and Rockhopper appears to be in a small isolated group, North. Could BHP be so wrong? Still, even if Rockhoppers manages to get a rig ( none yet I read) they ahve to provide all the infrastructure and shipping into a willing Buyer. Therefore it seems to me that a high oil-price and large demand is needed to make this "exceptional" value.
BP is slipping on news of Opec cutting pproduction, due to slackening World demand - so the same maust apply to Rockhopper, even if it was delivering - ie the "risk" was purely on the price, in the oil-market.
What surprises me is that this stock achieved 1, - only six months ago - were punters mad?
Oh yes, I've got a few diff'uns = far-flung "potential" - but not "this" far.

justyi - 24 Oct 2008 15:06 - 201 of 6294

RKH is only 11p. Any buyers dare to risk it?

cynic - 24 Oct 2008 15:16 - 202 of 6294

not if you have any sense

martinl2 - 24 Oct 2008 15:36 - 203 of 6294

What do you mean cynic?

smiler o - 24 Oct 2008 18:01 - 204 of 6294

at 10/11p IMHO well worth a punt .... do you think oil will drop back to 40$ More like in 2010 110 $ + and this little Co will tic up with news of drilling in 2009 on the Back of FOGL or some positive news of their own ?? !! we will see A ?? All speculation mind but Very possible ! I will make a note of the post No ! ; ))

cynic - 24 Oct 2008 18:07 - 205 of 6294

see my post 197 for your answer

halifax - 24 Oct 2008 18:15 - 206 of 6294

With the oil price heading towards $50, no oil shortage worldwide due to recession, gasoline prices in the US lower than a year ago, it follows any plans to drill in the Falklands will be on the backburner for several years. The "pie" is going higher in the sky! Hope Marky the great DES ramper is reading this.

markymar - 24 Oct 2008 18:30 - 207 of 6294

Cynic,Halifax..stop talking total rubbish and telling porkys,I think I would rather believe a RNS from the company than from Halifax as he is clueless.

Desire and Rockhopper are both drill ready and both are looking for a suitable oil rig to drill as soon possible not several years away as claimed by you,,even Fogl are preparing to drill in 2010,
