Then it'll just be ethel & I....how cosy!

ethel - 18 Feb 2005 15:12 - 204 of 217

.Hallo Queenie,I am the owner of 1000 shares, bought at their height a few month's ago, when everyone was going on about the possible TAKEOVER which was going to value each share at 300p.Ha!Ha!The price went down the day after I bought,as usual....and I did'nt feel like topping up at the lowest sp because I don't like to hold tranches of more than 3000 pounds. There are so many good shares to buy that don't cost a lot of money it seems a pity to lock up money with more expensive ones. The results were surprisingly good, did'nt they say something about being the largest sellers of men's ready to wear suits in the U:K:?What IS the value of Lee Jeans, once a leading challenger to Levi's in the old day's.So,that's my Matalan story, know very little about the finacials, etc.but they probably don't want to be bought out, they are actually doing quite well.Only problem, they once fell from grace and the Market has a loooooong memory and does'nt forgive easily.Look at poor Compass and Cookson...unforgiven:and I am the owner of their shares, too!!!I hope that the share price manages 260p,which is not unreasonable in the next couple of months, then I shall sell and go away. But,without a takeover and no buyer for LJeans, who knows?

ethel - 18 Feb 2005 15:17 - 205 of 217

Do you have to leave so soon Dazzling Dave. Can't you stick it out for another year?At least you made some money...good,you deserve that after your ,at times ,lonely vigil.

daves dazzlers - 18 Feb 2005 18:53 - 206 of 217

Evening all,we`ve sold out 2.40 and a bit result well happy,no more &2500 dive a year,we will miss that for sure, goodluck all holders,i feel a 100 million profit is coming soon so be lucky all and have some fun.

Ethel,i feel they with go up until mid march when more news will flow, its all about what you want from this stock & were you get on {price wise}that will determine your profit in the end,
Just my opinion.

Best of luck,i will be rooting for you holders onwards & upwards.

queen1 - 18 Feb 2005 23:31 - 207 of 217

Cheers DD, good luck with the next home for your cash.

Ethel - Nice to meet you! I too have c.1000 shares so neither of us is going to make much difference to the company, whatever we do! I also bought into these as something of a takeover play and I still think it's a possibility. The big supermarkets are still expanding both in terms of business-as-usual stores (e.g. Asda's news this week that it's expanding in the UK) and new ventures (e.g Tesco's recent foray into an electrical goods store). If one of the big players does decide to go for clothing in a big way there's only one choice IMO - MTN! Anyway, let's hold hands, take a deep breath together and see what's in store for us as the weeks and months unfold.....

daves dazzlers - 02 Mar 2005 19:30 - 208 of 217

Looks like it holding its own now with todays trading statement , The future who knows.

ethel - 03 Mar 2005 09:09 - 209 of 217

I thought you had left this ...nice to hear from you Dave.I have to sell at over 240p to make a profit.Only hope they sell Lee Jeans for a decent price, but doubt it as they seem to have lost interest in them. They are doing quite nicely for the rest, probably too good for a takeover.Who knows?
Ethel

daves dazzlers - 03 Mar 2005 09:54 - 210 of 217

Ethel no position anymore but just an interest.

daves dazzlers - 27 Apr 2005 13:37 - 211 of 217

Anybody still hold these now they are sub 2.00.

ethel - 27 Apr 2005 14:15 - 212 of 217

I do!!!Fell asleep on them, too much to look at outside my own portfolio, which also includes poor William Morrison, which must be worth more than it is at the moment.
Still, the cheaper Mattie gets the more possibility of a takeover there is,which is why I bought them in the first place.Expecting 300p and hurry up and sell Lee Jeans, maybe to the chinese?

proptrade - 27 Apr 2005 14:31 - 213 of 217

what happened to the rumoured asda/target bids????

ethel - 27 Apr 2005 14:57 - 214 of 217

It seems strange that the sp has dropped so much recently having held up quite strongly in expectation of something. They were quite upbeat about their trading for this year and results were good compared to many other retailers.
I've learnt my lesson with this.Keep your eye on ALL your shares.I could have seen this drop coming had I looked at me chart. The sp failed twice to breach 250p and the downward movement followed. However, the sp has just fallen through another resistance level, which means horrible downward movement and drifting for ages,oh no...
Also, forgot a stop loss.Hard to have one in a potential bid situation.
Asda,are you ready,yet?

daves dazzlers - 27 Apr 2005 22:36 - 215 of 217

Keep the faith you holders dyor of course, will buy again 180ish.
