Victoria Oil & Gas receives support of General Prosecutor in Kazakhstan, shares soar
by Proactiveinvestors
Shares in oil and gas junior, Victoria Oil & Gas (AIM:VOG) jumped nearly 60% in early deals after the company announced that the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Kazakhstan was supporting the Companys application against a dispute of ownership of the Kemerkol Oil Field.
Kemerkol lies in the Atyrau Oblast of Western Kazakhstan, close to a number of producing oil and gas fields. The Company owns 100% of the 65 square kilometre licence which has oil reserves and resources of C1+C2 of 35 million barrels and C3 of 25 million barrels.
Victoria Oil & Gas has been locked in a dispute over the transfer of the Kemerkol licence which it acquired in 2005. The Company has repeatedly stated that the transfer was completed legally and that the dispute is without merit. Today the company received a huge boost in its attempt to have the dispute settled in its favour, after it confirmed that the General Prosecutor wrote a formal letter of complaint to the Supervisory Panel of the Atyrau Oblast Court stipulating that the case be reconsidered by the Economic Court of Kazakhstan.
After assessing the particulars of the claim and VECA's subsequent appeals, the General Prosecutor has issued a formal letter of protest to the Supervisory Panel of the Atyrau Oblast Court demanding cancellation of the court decision. This will mean that, VOG's ownership of Kemerkol will be restored and the case will be sent back to the Economic Court for reconsideration, the company stated.
Victoria Oil and Gas added that the General Prosecutor had also insisted on a review of certain matters previously disregarded by the Court.
Kevin Foo, Chairman of VOG, said:
"The support of the General Prosecutor further endorses the legitimacy of our ownership of Kemerkol and we now expect the Courts to dismiss this fraudulent case and allow us to recommence activity at Kemerkol. We will provide further information in due course."
House broker, Fox-Davies Capital, described the update as excellent news:
" The support of the General Prosecutor is excellent news for VOG. Pending the affirmation of the companys ownership of Kemerkol, activity at the field can recommence. We eagerly await additional news on these recent developments."

Update on Kemerkol Legal Claim
The Board of Victoria Oil & Gas Plc (AIM:VOG), the AIM quoted oil and gas exploration company, today announces an update to the press release lodged on 16 March 2009.
The Supervisory Panel of the Atyrau Oblast Court has decided not to refer the claim made against the Company's Kazakh subsidiary to the Atyrau Economic Court for reconsideration. This decision was taken despite a letter of protest to the Supervisory Court from the Kazakh General Prosecutor supporting VOG's appeal. VOG is currently assessing the best course of action for a further appeal in Kazakhstan.
The Company still has the option of progressing its claim for damages for breach of contract against Ms. Olga Elefteriadi in the UK courts. VOG has already obtained a judgement against her. Further information will be provided in due course.
Commenting on the decision, Kevin Foo, Chairman of VOG, said today, 'Once again the lower court in Kazakhstan has ignored our claim, even with the support of the office of the General Prosecutor. We will continue the fight until our rightful title to the Kemerkol field has been restored.'

Business Financial Newswire
"Victoria Oil & Gas plc, the AIM quoted oil and has exploration company, through its subsidiary Rodeo Development Ltd, has signed agreements with Cameroon Holdings Ltd for the provision of drilling services for Logbaba.
Logbaba is a proven discovery, with 2p reserves of 104bn cubic feet of natural gas, located beneath the country's largest city, Douala.
Victoria has already signed gas off-take agreements for up to 8m cubic feet per day with some of the city's major industrial consumers and management believes that the first two wells will yield more than sufficient gas to service this initial market.
Cameroon Holdings is partly owned by Kevin Foo, chairman of Victoria and as such the transaction is classified as being related party under AIM rules. "
