CHART OF THE DAY ON INVESTORS INTELIGENCE
DAILY TIP MEMO.

chart1016.pngUK Chart of the Day: 2 February 2012

Chart of the day: Man Group testing downtrend resistance...

Is Man Group's long-term downtrend over? Yesterday saw the stock break the short-term downtrend, as prices rallied above 120p (see right). More interestingly, the stock is now probing the pattern of falling highs.

Technically, the stock has scope for a further rally. First, prices are far beneath its long-term 150-day moving average. This increases the probability of 'mean reversion'. Second, it is not overbought. Third, the current rally saw most former underperformers reversing their downtrends. The rank speculation in equities may spill over to Man Group.

re. Head & Shoulders on FTSE - could be, but it's a pretty big pattern (the 2011 triple top skinny mentioned elsewhere is the "head") and technically to confirm the H&S, the neckline at 4800 would need to be broken (of course, something like a disorderly default by a Eurozone country might do it!). The height of the pattern would give a downside target of about 1300 points, so 3500-ish (roughly March 2009 low). If it continues on it's current run and breaks above 5800-ish I think that would probably invalidate the H&S.

goldfinger - 02 Feb 2012 16:03 - 1974 of 3532

Hmmm interesting jonk. Love your chart presentation. Pro real time. Is that the one were you get some freebies at beginning?.

US bernanke speaking now Gold going up crazy.

Breakout at 1760.

skinny - 02 Feb 2012 16:04 - 1975 of 3532

Yeah ok - a bit prettier then mine!

jonuk76 - 02 Feb 2012 16:17 - 1976 of 3532

Thats the 'classic' interpretation of H&S, but we haven't even got a confirmed right shoulder yet, so plenty of time to see how it plays out.

With prorealtime, the end of day version is completely free (what I'm using). That includes programmable screeners, backtesting etc. You can't get better value than that :) They do offer a free trial of the real time version which is of course accompanied by calls from their sales reps. It's good but a bit pricey for me with the monthly software cost and fees for each data feed. I think IG Market's advanced charting option is basically the same software as well.

jonuk76 - 02 Feb 2012 17:19 - 1977 of 3532

A few that look interesting that turned up on a screener (20 day breakouts)

Awful lot of volume on ENQ today although the price hasn't moved much. But looking fairly positive none the less.

Shire maybe looking vulnerable here after a nice run. AZN's news seems to be causing general weakness in the pharmaceutical sector.

Nice move up from SN. on decent volume

goldfinger - 02 Feb 2012 17:24 - 1978 of 3532

Skinny if we can get loads of freebies from that site its OK with me.

Just asking mate not a judgement.

Anyway youve always been the king of the CHART ON THE SPOT which means posters can jump in instantly and profit.

Were all in this together. To help each other out.

PS, By the way Skinny my plumber even knew who you were. No Joking.

Jon - I'll have a look at prorealtime over the weekend, especially as the eod is free - although apparently there is a game of rugby (or 2) that may come 1st! :-)

The last three bars on there look like plumbers tools. What's going on here?

;-)

PS Have flirted with ProRealtime EOD myself but never got anywhere - lack of time. Would be interesting to chat about it on here. I'll download over the w/e.
