Arena Leisure - BREAKOUT! (ARE)

dorothyperkins - 10 Apr 2007 09:48

Any target on the chart? Last time it was here, it went straight to 264p more or less.

s040371giles - 10 Apr 2007 10:06 - 2 of 52

I bought into this on the monthly chart breakout last week - as it happens, also got tipped in the SCSW at the weekend, and they will do a more detailed write up next month. The gist seemed to be increased revenue from all-weather courses and the renewed contract which provides race footage to bookmakers, and also as an asset play - increased development at the courses (hotels, conference facilities etc) at Doncaster/Wolverhampton, and some land at Folkestone racecourse earmarked for housing. It seems that the property is undervalued in the balance sheet.

I have no target in mind - I will go with the trend. As I said, I bought in purely on the chart, but as there is a 'fundamental' story to it as well, hopefully this 'rider' won't get unseated :)

I have been given a tip on this one a few weeks ago . got in at 74p but could have got in 62p .

cynic - 11 Apr 2007 13:41 - 4 of 52

here's the chart anyway ....... really need a more sophisticated one which i cannot supply to determine next resistance etc .... my guess is that it's at about this level being 33% above the last significant low at 56, but do not hold me to that ..... rsi is also more than a bit heady though falling

red = 25 dma

Looking at a monthly chart, the next resistance level I can see is about the 120p mark - during the general downtrend from 250p+ it looks like 3 attempted rallies failed at this level, but that was back in the first half of 2001. I can't see anything obvious between that and where we are now.

Story in Shares mag yesterday - city gossip is that the Reuben brothers are looking at merging ARE with their newly acquired Northern Racing (NOR). The theory is that they could merge the two, cut overheads, and transfer races between the two estates in order to free up courses (such as Folkestone) for redevelopment. However, for this to go ahead, they would need the support of Trevor Hemmings, who owns more than 25% of ARE's shares. He also owns Blackpool Tower, and is the owner of the Grand National winning horse, Hedgehunter.

Technically, ARE's share price has ticked down over the last couple of weeks after nearing 80p, but volume has been drying up.

I hold in ARE.

'Arena had another successful year in 2006 and is on course for more success in
2007 and beyond.

'Attendances in the first part of 2007 have remained softer than anticipated,
but this is traditionally a quiet period of the year, and prospects for the very
busy summer months are encouraging. In addition, Arena's new catering division
has successfully taken on the management of the Group's catering operations with
effect from 1 April 2007 and the new division has got off to a strong start.

'Arena's development projects continue to progress well, with the Doncaster
Racecourse redevelopment on schedule for a successful staging of the Ladbrokes
St Leger Festival in September 2007. Arena also welcomed the receipt of planning
permission at Doncaster Racecourse for the combined 120-bedroom hotel and
34-unit residential development.

Got a few more at 70p and the sp is moving in the right direction again . They have got many projects on the go . It will bring in vast amounts of cash .

stan59man - 08 Jun 2007 09:58 - 18 of 52

Any ideas why the down trend in the past couple of days?

fliper - 08 Jun 2007 18:35 - 19 of 52

Sometime a big buyer wants in but not at current price , so sp goes down . A good buying time , i will see if funds allow me to get some more .

fliper - 15 Jun 2007 13:08 - 20 of 52

8 mil of buys today , good news on the way ?

stan59man - 15 Jun 2007 14:10 - 21 of 52

Haven't heard anything as yet, but some obvious heavy buying.
Is there a stock overhang?
