Gas Turbine Efficiency (GTE)

Andy - 02 Nov 2007 12:37

Gas Turbine's technology is conceptually simple. The company has designed a unique way to form minute droplets of water and deliver them into a gas turbine's gas path at relatively low pressure, while the turbine is turning slowly. This removes layers of particulates that have become stuck to the internal compressors, creating drag when the engine is running at working speed. Particulates are minute specks of matter such as smoke particles, volcanic ash, dust, etc which float in the atmosphere and are sucked into the jet engines of aeroplanes, and gas turbines used by electricity generators.

Current industrial practice often involves an intrusive operation to clean the internal parts using a mixture of water and detergent. GTE's technique is completely non-evasive and only requires water, and sometimes a small amount of detergent, which means it can clean an engine far quicker and more easily than traditional methods. For an airline operator, keeping the engines as clean as possible means they are running more efficiently. The more efficiently a turbine runs, the less fuel it consumes, and the less green house gas emissions it spurts into the air.
