Avanti Communications (AVN)

hlyeo98 - 04 Aug 2010 11:22

This is a BUY tip from Tom Winnifrith...

Sorry if this is rather boring as the market cap is now c 350 million but at 470p Avanti Communications (AVN) - a stock held in the SF t1ps Growth Fund - is really very cheap whichever way you look at it. It is now funded to launch 3 satellites into space ( and fully insured if the worst happens which will only delay the programme by 6 months anyway). You value Avanti by discounting back the net cashflows these satellites will generate. That depends on how much capacity is sold and at what price. Use a model based on very conservative assumptions and this stock is worth 13 ( the lowest valuation in the market). But that model uses assumptions about sales prices which are already being beaten by forward sales Avanti is booking today. Use those prices and you head up to the 22.50 value of house broker Cenkos. My own view is that Avanti will do better still and this stock could therefore be worth 25. Exc itement will mount as the first satellite is launched later this year. Remember those valuations are the Net Present Value of future cashflows ( i.e. what they are worth today). If you can buy at under 600p ( as you can now) you should do so and sit back and wait. I suspect after HYLAS 1 is launched you will never again be able to buy at less than 600p.

Avanti Communications Group plc

Contract Win

Avanti Communications (LSE: AVN), the broadband satellite operator, announces two contract wins.

Avanti has signed contracts with Access Intelligence PLC (AIM:ACC) and Fitzrovia IT Services for the sale of the Patented Business Internet Continuity range of products to be delivered from the newly launched HYLAS 1 satellite, Europe's first Ka Band satellite.

Avanti's Business Internet Continuity service (which has global patent protection) uses an enhanced version of its satellite broadband product to provide disaster recovery telecoms services to businesses telecom cable users. In the event that the primary cable connection is lost, the Avanti service instantly restores connectivity and IP addressing so that locally hosted or cloud applications continue to work seamlessly.

Avanti also announces the result of research into the reliance upon internet connectivity by UK and international enterprises and the costs being incurred by inadequate planning for connectivity failure.

The independent market research commissioned by Avanti Communications and carried out by Redshift Research shows that three quarters of business respondents rely on constant internet access but one in four businesses do not include internet connectivity in their disaster recovery plans, with one in three having no back-up connection in case of failure.

David Williams, Chief Executive of Avanti Communications, commented: "We have high hopes for our Business Internet Continuity product since, for the first time, a satellite broadband system is potentially of use to every business in the World regardless of geography. The research we have commissioned has highlighted the significant consequences that businesses face in the event of losing an internet connection. Avanti and its partners can protect companies against those risks."

Commenting upon the new contract, Charles Lass, Managing Director at Access Intelligence ControlPoint, comments, "This research reaffirmed our view that if your business relies upon Cloud Computing, Business Internet Continuity is a 'must-have' service. We anticipate strong demand for the service from our customers."

Daren Oliver, Managing Director of Fitzrovia IT Limited, said, "As a company that specialises in delivering advice and solutions for Cloud Computing, Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Virtualisation, this new service from Avanti enables Fitzrovia to offer resilience and continuity around its internet connectivity and therefore helps Fitzrovia deliver a complete continuity of IT service around its product range."

I suspect the retracement is about complete, albeit something of a surprise the SP has fallen quite as much as it has, especially with the raft of contracts wins since the successful launch. I binned my two remaining SB positions at 728p, one flat and one in profit, not because I expected this fall, but to free up margin for some other positions.

Hopefully, I'll be back for more in the not to distant future. Good luck to current holders, although I don't think luck will need to play much part.
